Fight across a Japanese freeway after a high-stakes heist collapses traffic and ignites open combat. In this mid-sized Multiplayer map first introduced in Black Ops 4, Operators battle in the immediate aftermath of the attack as the road crumbles into the metropolitan area below.
Navigate the ruins of the Expressway now on level with the downtown shopping district, comprised of a relaxing Onsen whose outer wall has suffered structural damage, a row of vehicles and shops down the Street, and the Underpass. Use this guide to plan your tactics in the dense urban environment, whether you’re a veteran of Gridlock or playing for the first time.
1. Eagle eye: Gridlock mixes long-ranged street fights with tighter battles in the map’s interior spaces. Attach a hybrid sight to your weapon to excel in both worlds. Toggle to the closer setting when fighting up close and flip on extra magnification down long routes like Underpass and Street. Locate your target, pick the best zoom, and land your shots.
2. Next target: Consider the Tracker Perk to display the direction of the next closest enemy whenever you eliminate a target, a powerful ability on a larger map like Gridlock. If you use Red and Blue Perks to activate the Scout Combat Specialty, you can chain your attacks to remain hidden on enemy minimaps, even without a Suppressor Attachment.
3. Aerial duty: Enemy Scorestreaks can inflict major damage on Gridlock, even with the amount of overhead cover available throughout the map. If the other team starts bombarding you with UAVs, Watchdog Helos, and other aerial threats, equip a Launcher and bring them down.
Get inside the delivery truck parked at the bend between the Street and Underpass for a view that rivals the opposing Restaurant window. The angle isn’t as high, but you’ll have eyes straight down Street and back toward the Underpass. When you need to locate the enemy fast, jump onto the roof of the vehicle for a grand if exposed view.
From the Underpass spawn, notice the fallen freeway signs forming a ramp up to a platform overlooking the Expressway. This dominant view is ideal for covering the center lane, matched only by the crumbled Restaurant window on the opposite side. You can also fire down the ramp when the Underpass is hot, using it as a shortcut to ambush players below.
The Restaurant can be one of the most formidable locations on the map. Explore the interior to find powerful vantage points in three corners, overlooking the Street, Expressway, and back toward the Promenade. Check your flank for enemies coming up the stairs and climbing in from outside. If you can hold the place down, the enemy could struggle to progress up the map as you zero in from afar.
