Step into the broken mindscape of David Mason, currently at the mercy of The Guild’s Victoria Atwood. In this warped environment, enormous roots curve and push their way through the map while blood falls from the sky, filling the Basin, wetting the floor of the Tunnel, and pouring from the Bloodfalls.
Three pairs of portals add a further twist, teleporting Operators across the map opening sudden ambushes and deadly flank attacks. You’ll need to keep your head on straight to survive in this surreal environment. Here are some pointers to keep in mind before descending into the madness.
1. Play mind games with portals: Torment features three pairs of portals, with three on the larger portion of the map connected to different portals around the Basin. Test them all out, see where they link up, and use them to blink out of sight on the way to your next target.
2. Lab work: The Bloodfalls area is bound to draw much attention here, providing both a powerful vantage point up on its ledge and a portal into and out of the Basin. Get in the nearby Lab or Disposal containers nearby for a powerful angled view of the falls.
3. Distilled fear: Torment your foes with the Fear Trap Field Upgrade or the Psych Grenade Tactical equipped with the Distilled Compound Overclock, increasing the effect’s duration on afflicted targets. Take them out while they’re disoriented, struggling to decipher real from imagined threats.
Make the enemy think twice about teleporting across the map by installing traps near the most heavily trafficked portals. Set up a C4, Fear Trap, or drop a Drone Pod nearby to greet incoming foes, turning their intended ambush against them as they appear.
Check for an opening on the inside wall of the Tunnel passage, giving just enough room for an RC-XD to fit through. Pilot the remote-controlled car through the dark passage, following the red lights within out to a point directly across from the Bloodfalls, a highly contentious location where enemy targets are likely to congregate throughout the match.
Look for the yellow tarp marking an opening in the stacked Guild crates around the south end of Depot. Climb up for a protected vantage point over the area with a thick block of concrete offering cover as you shift from side to side, firing down on foes stuck out in the open like sitting ducks.
