Bring the Overload Device to the enemy zones to overload them.
Prebrief
Overload is a constant push and pull, objective-based multiplayer mode where two teams compete to overload the enemy zones. Now in Call of Duty®: Black Ops 7, Overload takes teamwork and group coordination to a whole new level. Work together to both outsmart the enemy and develop a plan that doesn’t get your friendly Operators stuck behind a brick wall defense.

Overload
// MULTIPLAYER MODES // CORE
Call your role: Are you assigned to your team’s half of the map, attacking the enemy team’s half, or bouncing between the two? There are many ways to play Overload, but playing a specific role at any given time during a match will go a long way toward your team’s success.
Cover the carrier: It’s much faster to make sure the Overload Device carrier is steadily moving toward the objective and protected rather than being eliminated, forcing you and your teammates to make sure it’s being picked back up. Protect them rather than creating a kill box when the Device is dropped.
Cut off the carrier: Unlike most modes in Black Ops 7, there is an indicator that will appear on your HUD every few seconds that will show you where the enemy device carrier is located. Use this information to get to where the carrier is headed rather than where they are when the indicator appears. Beat them to a choke point before they get there for a more advantageous elimination.
Mode Parameters
- Category: Core Multiplayer Mode.
- Team Size: 1-6 Players per team (6v6).
- Primary Objective: Take or escort the Overload device to one of the two enemy Overload zones.
- XP Focus: Overloading the enemy zones and eliminating the enemy carrier.
How to Play Overload in BO7
Overload Mechanics
- Each team is dedicated to one half of the map.
- The Overload Device will appear in the center of the map when the match starts.
- The Device can appear in one of three spots across the center of the map after the first initial appearance.
- Each team must take the Overload Device to one of two detonation zones on the opposing side of the map.
- Each match is separated into two halves and teams switch sides after one team scores four points.
Score & Win Conditions
- Players must take the Overload Device to an enemy zone and enter it to score a single point for their team.
- Only one player at a time can carry the Device.
- The half ends when either team scores four points or the timer runs out.
- The match ends when either team scores eight points.
- If the final timer runs out and both teams are tied, Sudden Death will begin.
- Sudden Death is two minutes long with no respawns. The first team to score a single point will win the match.
Key Terms and Definitions
- Carrier: The player who is currently carrying the Overload Device.
- Device Available: The Device hasn’t been picked up from the Device spawn by either team, yet.
- Dropped: The Overload Device carrier was eliminated and is currently in the last held position on the map.
- Reset: Either the Device has been successfully taken to the Overload zone, or the carrier had lost the Device by falling off the edge of the map or going to an out of bounds area. In both scenarios the Device will be reset to one of the spawn points in the center of the map. Resetting on purpose can be a viable strategy depending on the time and position.
Recruit Tactics
Protect the Overload Device
The number of eliminations earned away from the Device or Overload zone will rarely be beneficial to your team’s success. Protect the Device or the Device carrier at all times. If you’re the carrier, work with your teammates to make sure you can outnumber your attackers.
Learn the Map Shortcuts
Every map in Black Ops 7 is dynamic in the sense that there are several ways to get to a single point. So, finding the fastest way to get to the enemy or friendly carrier will always give you the upper hand on those that don’t practice this map movement. Take a look at the BO7 Map Guides to study the Tac Maps and plan the best routes.
Equip Yourself to the Role
Where are you best utilized at any given moment? Create a few Loadouts; one for defending your team’s Overload zones, one for attacking the enemy carrier, and one that can be efficient at floating between the two.
Field Upgrades really come in handy when playing for a specific objective. Combat Hologram works well when distracting an attacking enemy and giving you valuable intel on where the enemy is coming from. Active Camo gives you the ability to push passed your team’s carrier to scout the forward location and clear it out before your friendlies can be ambushed.
Advanced Tactics
Don’t Overload the Carrier
The Overload Device Carrier is the most vulnerable member of your team, but they also have their own means of defending themselves, so leaving them with one or two bodyguards is more than enough. The rest of your team should stay relatively close and secure a perimeter around the carrier.
Get Back Before it’s too Late
Even if you’re securing forward movement for your carrier, it’s always possible an attacker can hit the flank without you noticing right away. If you’re alerted that your carrier is down and you’re passed the half-way point on the map, it’s time to rush back toward your spawn and cut the enemy carrier off before they get a chance to score.
Protect the Reset
You’ll know when the Overload Device is about to reset. You won’t be able to pick up the Device until the short reset timer is up, so you’ll need to secure the area before it’s available. Think ahead and protect the location from enemy intruders.
Lock Down Mid
As with most objective based modes, the mid-point of the map is the most valuable to control. Unlike other modes, you may feel forced to leave the mid-point because of where the Overload Device is at any given point. No matter the circumstance, it’s important to always have a plan to take or keep control of the center of the map.
Fall Back to Your Equipment
Overload is a mode where the hot spots are constantly changing. However, once your team moves passed choke points in the map, it’s a smart move to leave some equipment behind, like a Trophy System or Assault Pack. Any support against an aggressive team can help you overcome overwhelming odds.
Final Brief
Overload is a new mode that’s easy to pick up and is prepped for you to become a master strategist. It combines the heights of aim skill and outsmarting your opponent, so the best players will shine and the strategy masters may humble a few great shooters. Get in there and Overload the enemy zones before your team can be shut down.
