Killstreaks have been transformed into Pointstreaks, now rewarding players both for landing kills and completing objectives. Additionally, they have been broken up into three different categories, known as Strike Packages: Assault, Support and Specialist.

Weapons now rank up through use, unlocking additional attachments, reticules, camos and the new proficiency category. Weapon Proficiencies allow you to specialize your weapons with helpful attributes, such as Kick for reduced recoil and Impact for deeper penetration through hard surfaces.

All sixteen maps have been optimized for natural movement and intense combat. Each environment presents its own strategies and challenges, and a diverse collection of locales keeps every match fresh and interesting. Along with the return of the fan favorites, several new game modes have been introduced. 

Kill Switch: An intense new Special Ops Mission that places your two-man team deep in enemy territory. Your mission - cripple a Russian carrier by detonating an Electromagnetic Pulse. Iron Clad: With one player helming a tank and the other escorting it on foot, you’ll clear beaches and take cover in plane wreckage as you escape Hamburg from behind enemy lines in this all-new Special Ops Mission.  

Arctic Recon: Requiring surgical precision by air, land, and sea, this new Special Ops mission tasks you with destroying a Russian battleship by planting beacons for an air strike. Light 'Em Up: A VIP has been captured and detained within Makarov’s castle, and it’s up to you to breach the fortress and get him out. Special Delivery: Deep behind enemy lines, an allied flight crew helplessly awaits their fate at a nearby crash site. 

Chaos Mode: A whole new way to play Call of Duty®, Special Ops Chaos mode delivers the ultimate in arcade mayhem. Experience truly heart-pounding and adrenaline-fueled action while competing for high scores in Resistance, Village, Underground and Dome. Vertigo: The luxurious “Oasis” hotel in Dubai hosts the latest Special Ops mission, in which players must use laser-guided RPG’s to dispatch waves of helicopters.

All New Content. Players can choose between heading to a militarized Central Park in "Liberation," destroying scenic vistas in a seaside Italian getaway in "Piazza," raining glass on New York passersby from 70-stories-up in "Overwatch," and battling beside a downed Air Force One in "Black Box."  

Team Up. Face Off. Modern Warfare® 3's second downloadable "Collection" deploys with 3 Multiplayer/Survival Mode Maps, 2 Special Ops Missions, and the introduction of 2 all-new "Face Off" maps. Scoping the Mediterranean, Hamburg, a sprawling vacation resort and even the Scottish Islands, players hungry for action will have no shortage of venues to test their Multiplayer and Special Ops skills. 

Getaway: The first "Face Off" map in Modern Warfare® franchise history, what once was a tropical beach getaway boasting exotic aquariums and oversized pools is now a haven for ruthless run-and-gun violence. Lookout: Carved into a combat-weary mountainside, this new "Face Off" map pits you against your opposition in a forward observation base littered in chokepoints and tight corridors. 

Hop aboard snowmobiles to infiltrate a diamond mine in "Black Ice" or head to India, where "Negotiator" will leave the fate of hostages in their hands. Black Ice: Shred ice from aboard your snowmobile as you infiltrate a diamond mine and melt more than snow when you plant high-grade explosives. Negotiator: Cash in all your karma as you head to India for high-stakes hostage extraction, where you'll breach-and-clear rooms and navigate surface streets to secure the safety of your VIPs. 

Combat-Heavy Care Package. With its third DLC Collection, Modern Warfare® 3 drops a combat-heavy care package of Special Ops Chaos mode, 4 new Special Ops missions, and 3 FACE OFF maps for the ultimate trifecta in solo and co-op gameplay. High-altitude Special Ops challenges put tactical skills to the test, with players navigating armed drones above a Russian destroyer and evading RPGs from the roof of a helicopter-swarmed hotel.  

Intersection: A New York bridge overpass provides the backdrop in which an ultra-condensed 2-block battle zone allows players to fight on the first and second floors of surrounding apartments. Vortex: No storm shelter can keep you safe in a map that places you just outside the danger zone of a devastating tornado. U-Turn: A bombed-out, gridlocked highway provides a perfect backdrop for combatants, where oil fields burn black high above six-lanes' worth of abandoned vehicles.  

Saluting Modern Warfare® 3's Season of Content, the fourth and final DLC collection deploys with five all-new Multiplayer Maps. Surrounded by mountains, "Gulch" sends combatants into a forgotten mining town with only mine shafts and equipment sheds for cover. The Jersey coast awaits in "Boardwalk," where fun in the sun means facing enemies on the beach. Rounding out the collection is a trip to New Orleans’ war-torn French Quarter, where "Parish" pits players against one another amidst the city's rubble.

Players must earn their sea legs on "Off Shore" and "Decommission," where deadly oceanic oilrigs and a maze of rotting ocean liners provide the perfect setting for shoreline-based combat. Off Shore: Trapped on an oil rig in the middle of the ocean, you have nowhere to go but directly at your enemies. Decommission: A graveyard of rotting ocean liners has not only given birth to a shantytown of locals, providing the perfect setting for a map populated with chokepoints.
