Regardless of region, OpTic Gaming is the team to beat. With 1st place finishes at the Stage 1 Playoffs, Crown Invitational, and ESWC, their history of dominating performances continues well into the inaugural year of the Call of Duty World League, presented by PlayStation 4.

Yet they’re far from invincible, a fact the FaZe Clan roster is very much aware of.

In 2014, just after the release of Advanced Warfare, FaZe Clan’s Clayster, then on OpTic Gaming, was released from the squad in a surprise fashion. After settling alongside Attach on Denial, he finally got his revenge at Call of Duty Championship 2015.

“Throw me to the wolves and I’ll come back leading the pack.” – Clayster

Denial beat OpTic in round 1 of the winners bracket, clearing their path to become the tournament champions. OpTic Gaming, forced down to the losers bracket, would then fall to FaZe for a disappointing 7th place finish.

Once the current FaZe Clan lineup of Clayster, Enable, ZooMaa and Attach solidified, they went on to defeat OpTic Gaming in the grand finals of three more LAN events during the Advanced Warfare season.

The rivalry here is intense. OpTic Gaming have yet to beat FaZe Clan at a LAN event this year. FaZe Clan, stuck in a 3rd place finish for the Stage 1 regular season and Playoffs, will need to up their game if they hope to make a run at the Stage 2 title. With both teams at 6-2 heading into Week 6, watch this Match of the Week to see which rival will rise, and which will fall.

OpTic Gaming

OpTic Gaming are the most popular team in Call of Duty esports. After several years of disappointment, the team finally found prolonged success with their current lineup of Scump, FormaL, Crimsix and Karma. There is only one goal in mind for OpTic Gaming this year: A Call of Duty Championship win that has long eluded this storied organization.

FaZe Clan

Next to Rise Nation, FaZe Clan may represent the biggest threat to OpTic Gaming’s dominance. The FaZe roster has gone unchanged since Clayster, Enable, ZooMaa, and Attach defeated OpTic Gaming 3-0 in the grand finals of UMG Dallas 2015. Watch the player videos of reigning World Champions Clayster and Attach for an idea of how personal this rivalry gets. With the team’s top-level experience combined with their drive to overthrow the top dogs of the CWL, anything can happen.
