Laptop Crash

Posted by Nekuza on Feb 11, 2013 6:13 PM

I have a brand new Alienware laptop and I still cannot get BO2 to run. It keeps locking up when I start the game. I have installed from the disk same effect. I have installed from Steam same effect. When I click on Singleplayer, Multiplayer or Zombie it starts like it is going to load and then just stops. I never even get to the online screen. I have gone into settings and selected high performance video like one of the on line suggestions made but I can see nothing else I can do. Any ideas ?

What are the specs of your laptop?  Also, do you have a separate monitor hooked up?

I see what part of the issue is.  Your graphics processor is way below minimum specifications required for this game.  Intel 4000 series integrated graphics have all kinds of issues with this game because they are not officially supported.  Even if you do get it to work, you are going to have a very lackluster, choppy gaming experience.

EDIT: I just looked up your laptop, and it has a 7970 in it, so you just have to make it use that rather than the intel integrated chip.  You should be able to within catalyst control center, and once thats all set up its gonna run this game like butter lol.

I believe you may need to disable the onboard graphics in the bios.

Your 7970 card is an amd based card, not an nvidia one.  Nvidia drivers will give you nothing but issues

Try this link out for drivers

Well the 7970 is the flagship gpu of amd, so the only possible upgrade could be a gtx680, but thats about the same performance wise.  Also those specs dont say the model of the gpu.  Is it a gtx670m? gtx680m?  Go to the geforce website and auto detect the gpu if you dont know what it is so that you can post it here.  A 7970 is far from generic, and with the newest drivers is supposed to be better than the 680 so it's hard to imagine you upgraded from that.

Those laptops with hybrid graph are a problem. I see it in the battlefield 3 forum almost daily. There hasn't been a real fix for it. Some don't have problems others do. For some reason no matter what you do the laptop tries to use the intel graphics while your gaming. Some have been able to completely disable the intel hd graphics in the bios. You'll have to look around in the bios and see if you can disable it. Otherwise, I'm affraid there isn't much else you can do. That's one reason I refuse to game on a laptop.

Have you tried running as administrator?

Did you get your game legally? (Pirated games often cause issues like this)

Is your game cracked? (Same reason as above)

Use http://canirunit.com to see if your laptop can handle Black Ops 2.

Have you tried reinstalling Black Ops 2?
