Wiimote charging question

Posted by BobbyMcGee on Jan 17, 2013 2:13 AM

He guys I was just wondering if anybody else uses the energizer charging dock for their wiimotes. It's pretty annoying that the only way to charge the wiimote, as far as I can tell, is to have the console on. I mean it worked fine with wii, and its obvious that a lot of people bought wii u for wiimote compatabilty, why would it be designed to only send power to the dock/usb when the system is on? I mean doesn't that kind of defeat the whole purpose of it being rechargeable, if you can only charge when the power is on? Sure I could, and prob will get a USB to wall outlet adapter, but wouldn't this be a fairly easy fix for Nin? Thanks guys

I still use my old 4gamers charger in the old wii so I haven't tried to use the wii u for charging. Are you saying the wii u doesn't have standby mode?

No the WiiU does not have standby power in the USB ports. It sucks and I left my old Wii right next to the new one to charge my WiiMotes. I have some 3rd party recharge system, I have not heard good things about the energizer product but I don't play for hours on end so they might be ok anyway.

The answer to your question is the same answer to the question "Why does the gamepad have a mic but I cant use it in BO2". This answer is - Nintendo.

    overheating.

that's why. And i like how some of you idiots like blaming nintendo for everything. Does the gamepad mic work on wii u? yes  . Did the developers allow this feature to be used in bo2? no. who's at fault here? Not nintendo..

Running power to the USB ports would not cause the WiiU to overheat in standby mode, that's such an absurd statement to make. I'm sure Nintendo had their reasons for cutting the power, i don't know what they are, but that is definitely not it.

And Nintendo DID enforce the use of external mics on the gamepad. The reason being that if you were to play on the gamepad as it was trying to pick up your voice, most of what everyone else would hear would be the horrendous tapping of the buttons and sticks. I don't need to hear that in addition to the usual people breathing, children swearing, and the game sound from the TV being looped.

As for wiimote charging solutions, i've used my energiser induction charger for years now. I had to replace the cheap AAA cells in the packs, but now i have 30% more charge capacity, and the whole process involved one screwdriver, five minutes, and a couple of bucks for the cells.

        u

I said overheating because i the wii got really hot when left in standby mode. I would think the same would happen to the wii u, but im sure its all a conspiracy. Nintendo has a contract with the usb outlet adapter companies and the makers of headsets. I know realize what i said was stupid....i had just woken up and i confused the ps3 with the wii u. silly padiego, power conversion doesnt happen inside the console, causing it to become a toaster. Also....

          take

          it

          i

personal, i dislike everyone who blames nintendo for something treyarch did. As for batteries....well i guess ill contribute. I use usb batteries...as in..usb batteries. I have them plugged in to the u everytime i play and i swap every week. Works fine, never have to ubuy batteries for the wiimote anymore.

Just to clarify a point. The gamepad mic does not work. The people who reported it as working were idiots who plugged their iphone headsets into the gamepad and actually activated the in-line mic. You can use any smartphone headset, you can use any 3.5mm PC headset, you can even use headphones and a separate mic, but you can not use the gamepad mic without hacking a patch cable into it.
