Clan ops/challenges are pointless on BO2, I played clan ops all the time on MW3. Haven't played a single clan op yet on BO2. MW3 clan ops actually felt rewarding to level up your clan.
I play the clan ops / challenges in black ops with the hope that we will be rewarded with some DXP, ClanDXP, etc... I'm hoping that they will activate these retroactively (clan hit level 12 this weekend). But I'm not sure how long we can hold out. We are a smallish 20 member clan, and fewer and fewer are showing up for the ops. Most of that do show up are friends in real life, and a few others that often show up are there just to have fun and socialize. I have nothing to convince anyone to show up for if they aren't working towards something. Yes we have fun, but how hard could is possibly be to give us some unlocks that meant something.
You know what I wish would happen. Microsoft would create their own central location for clans that was cross-game compatiable and just give developers the tools to link into and easily create their own rewards system. Kind of like Gamer Points but for groups. And with more in-game rewards like Elite (well... like elite should have). Maybe we should just beg microsoft, because at least they seem to seek gamers opinions, and with the new xbox mass media device coming later this year, they will be seeking a way to keep "serious" gamers on board a machine that's primary focus is no longer just games.
I disagree with your conclusion. Not all clans play for the benefits but for the group goal of adding to the showcase. Our group has 89 members, of which 60 or so have BO2, and from that inner group there are about 10 that will throw down some time from family and chores to participate. We had more participate this last weekend (post holiday demands, I think) and captured two Golds. That means something, even if we are 5 levels from the next background, to have increased our Clan Level.
The good thing now is having Clan Challenges of 23 hours in lenght for those members that are not available during the three hours of each Clan Ops to contribute. Looking forward to some massive numbers from our night hawks on today's challenge.
We focus on fun and enjoying an occasional lag-free game of BO2 with friends.
I agree DaddyTinman. Though I, and I assume you as well, do hope that they add in the rewards soon.
Life, we can only pray and submit those feedback forms/tweets! And I have more gold camo to work on!
It is funny that a game that was built to tap into the MLG market would fail so miserably at promoting Clan Ops. Of course I say that realizing that League Play while functional hasn't really gotten off of the ground either. I've personally been playing the Ops but there really isn't any point to it. The MW3 backgrounds are far superior to all of the BO2 backgrounds and there is nothing else to unlock. I know that there were supposed to be player cards but that hasn't happened and I'm not holding my breath waiting on them. My clan is already lvl 13 in BO2 so there literally is nothing left to unlock worth playing for. The only reason that I play them is to challenge myself to play different gamemodes. Otherwise I wouldn't bother.
On a side note, I was checking my games played just to see if I really did as poorly as I thought that I did in the TDM op and found that none of my TDM games (3 hrs worth) are available for review on Elite even though I had roughly 187 kills logged for the Op. Elite has become the unwanted stepchild of CoD. It's no wonder that they made it free this time around. For as pitiful as they've supported it, they might as well just turned it off.
There is no right or wrong, agree or disagree to. Every clan and every player is motivated differently.
With that said, can you imagine if this was the start of ELITE on MW3 with no emblems, no double xp rewards, and no titles to display clan name ? How many clans would have really pushed on forward?
The clans still pushing mostly are established clans, the ones that are new are still in the novelty phase.
Again, no right or wrong, just different opinions and circumstances.
When Elite started on MW3, the Founders thought they had something coming. To their dismay, nothing. No Clan Ops, No Clan Challenges. The rewards of emblems, double XP, and Clan backgrounds only happened as an effect of the Founder's Points.
Clan ops started and lots of folks were excited for the Elite functionality. Thankful, even, as they paid for something that was promised and underdelivered. Elite is free in BO2. Happy to have something, and that something is free. Also, glad to see that Kill Confirmed/TDM is all inclusive of Core and Hardcore.
On a side note, after the first two months of BO2 we have more in Elite than we had in teh first two months of MW3.
A voice in the back of my mind is saying that Leagues are more important to Treyarch than Elite events/activities. Second league season (sorry, off topic) and there is a tutorial for league competition! And then the clallenges start popping up.

That's good that you find a differnt use for Elite. I just do not find the reasoning behind it, even if your clan pulls the top scores. Unlike MW3 the unlocks (current ones) are meaningless.
Since day 1, Elite has done nothing concrete for us players other than gives us headaches!
