Can you transfer your wii account to the wii-u. Meaning, can I keep my mw3 profile and put it on my wii-u?

They say you can, but I lost everything. Not sure how but my whole MW3 profile is gone. Good luck
I asked Nintendo about the loss of save data that others had been experiencing, and the more or less said it was not true (so basically, everyone's a liar!), and that everything- including online data- is transferred.
Pretty bold statement huh? Well, here's something that might help anyway: After digging around various forums I was told that to keep your save data, you must play the game on the Wii U first, and THEN transfer your data across.
Somehow this seems to keep online data (or so I've heard).
For the people that are not able to transfer data to the Wii U, are they losing the data on their original Wii as well? Or is just not transferring?
I've been going through each gun and getting them gold on MW3...would like to continue but don't want to lose data on the original Wii.
I told my dad he could have my wii since I was getting a wii-u/black ops 2 for Christmas. I heard you can play wii games, super nintendo, nintendo games on the wii-u so I was going to give up my wii console with all my stuff on it. I just hate starting all over from scratch on mw3. I like mw3, its the lag that kills it.
mw3 is a wonderful game. Great maps, great spawns , balanced weapons, no glitches, constant support, no hackers...just a great game/sarcasm
I really like MW3 too. Maps are more balanced to where you can use different types of guns, rather than having to rely on SMGs on every map. Maps weren't all CQC either. The only OP guns in that game were the FMG9 noobs. I never had an issue with spawns and there were only a few glitches. Hackers, however, yikes. Bad on that game.
