Strange New Trend in Emblems?

Posted by trialstardragon on Dec 16, 2012 6:46 AM

Has anyone else beside me noticed the strange new trend going around where some players actually make the youtube logo and then add their youtube account under it? Since they are not allowed to advertise it here on the forums they are using the emblem creator to do it for them in game. I can say it is rather creative to do so. But I wonder if it is or should be against the rules? Since in a way it is still adverstisment.

Activision partnered with Youtube. Blops 2 allows you to link your youtube account in game or via elite. Why in the world would it be "Against the rules"?

Why lock and delete....I find it interesting. No harm in discussing interesting things.

I think the emblems are fine.....but in the end its up to xbl and Activision to determine whether it is a violation of the rules we all play under. If it s so be it, move on, if its not happy days go for broke.

Yes, indeed. There is only one way that number grows.  I say leave the micromanagement to the people who actually manage the game and away from the fans. But we are all entitled to an opinion.

Wow, how dare you mention someone's post count, very bad form.

At least that's what I was told on another thread.  By a moderator.  About someone who admitted he doesn't even own this game.  And said he doesn't play it.  But still posts endlessly.  On second thought...nevermind.  Nice to see I'm not the only one who notices the creatures under the bridges.

I always see this. I see one saying "YOUTUBE - TryHard Nation" a lot.Maybe that's because Ground War constantly throws me against the same people.

Yes just new this season and is gathering steam. I don't see any harm in it but then my Clan Tag is the same as the name of one on my companies

Haven't seen that on my end, but I honestly don't see a problem with it. As long as it isn't Nazi propaganda or racist crap I never care.

Let them advertise, it isn't hurting anyone. I wonder why some people have to get involved in everyone's business and have to tell them if what they're doing is right or wrong.

I would rather see those emblems than some of the ones out there. I have ran into a guy more than once that has a white stick guy dressed as a KKK clown with black stick men hanging in trees around him. I have reported him so many times it isnt funny but just ran into him again a few nights ago. I dont know how long the report process takes but surely that emblem wont stay.

Who the hell cares... custom emblems are meant to be CUSTOM. If someone chooses to post there YT account to connect with players let them do it. Isn't that the point of Elite so why not in the game?

As long as it is not an offensive emblem it doesn't matter.

    Crap thread is crap.

Somebody that lives on this forum 24/7 such as yourself should know to check the Security & Enforcement Policy before making a useless thread like this.

WTF on earth would putting YouTube in your emblem be illegal??

I see no problem. If it is a promotion to their own youtube channel then what harm is it doing?

If making a Youtube logo emblem is illegal then making a Pepsi, Simpsons, Southpark, Comic book character, Nike, etc. is illegal because that is using the image of a product, service, or some sort of other copyrighted material to advertise that particular companies product.

So yeah imho opinion I think it is a slippery slope once you start banning emblems because they advertise a particular brand. I think the current rules they have in place now regarding emblems is sufficient.

He isn't talking about the YouTube emblem itself but the advertising of their channel. It was a simple question because advertising is technically against policy in most cases so he wanted clarification.  Trolls came out in force for this one. At least read the post before responding.

But I have not seen those emblems myself.

Ummm, I asked in good faith, looking for a link that pointed out what you were claiming. It seems you have taken it the wrong way. But anyway, in response to your reply, It answers absolutely nothing about the topic in questions. How do you or the OP knows that by having a youtube channel emblem, on their profile they are making any money off any advertisement.

Also, what You just posted, will / could also be applied to all the people that record their games outside by using other methods that then ones provided by the game and posting them in youtube accounts that DO make money out of it. Then those accounts also risk being banned.

I also should add that while your reply was a very good effort, it simply does not answer the question. The reply you provided is made under the assumption that the player with the youtube channel emblem is using the account for a commercial purpose, which in this case you simply don't know if that is the case.

You want more proof then look on the banning forums on Xbox Live.

You will find many PET members stating that you cannot advertise on the Xbox.

THAT has nothing to do with this statement . We are talking about having the advertisements IN their Emblems nt talking about what they are doing elsewhere.

Advertising regardless is against Xbl Policy, doesnt matter what they are using it for. We do not have to ASSUME anything because he still has it there for all to see.

for example if a player has "1600 point modded lobbies" in their profile they STILL can get banned off of XBL regardless if they hosted a modded lobby or not.

Please stick to the facts, and post the links to where the information is available. Also since you posted the link to the Xbox Forums, please make sure You search them, since a simple search in this topic only provided two hits that were relevant to this discussion and both posts were unanswered by Xbox Support.

Also, the topic in question by the OP and what you are using as an example are very different things. What you describe as an example is explicitly prohibited and documented on the Xbox Live Code of Conduct; The topic in discussion here or anything similar is neither documented in the Code of Conduct or Terms of Use for Xbox Live.

I see no problems with it.

May have started with WickedShrapnel, he has a YouTube Logo with his channel name on it.

I think the ire should be directed to racist or sexually explicit emblems, not things like this.

It's not often thta you actually come accross an emblem worth a second look unfortunately.

    How would that be illegal?

it is if you advertise it in forums, but not on Emblems, Everything is allowed on Emblems as long as it's not offensive.

For example, that would be like someone reporting me for having my emblem as the Denver Broncos because I'm kind of Advertising the team.

haven't noticed 1 yet... i could care less about youtube emblems compared to the sick perverted ones... 33 years old here (not under 18) and i still don't care to see it... just move along.

i have noticed less creative emblems in BO2 and i think it's just because the game is new and people haven't put as much creative time into them...

I've seen loads the past few days but I'm not fused about the emblems it's the 4-5 messages I get from each person begging for subscribers that annoys me plus have you noticed it's always the cheapscopers that advertise theit YouTube accounts in their emblem
