[Theory] Interplanetary Laser Transponder

So we know a transponder looks like this (navcard):

A transponder tower for communicating with aircraft looks like this (TOB is a little different):

I was browsing around and I came aross this document:

Then I got the idea that the Tower of Babble is intending on firing these beams into space and not back to earth. Since we don't have the correct navcard the, the tower doesn't know where to fire the beams and they are just coming back to earth. The towers use might be to maintain connection with another laser transponder that's located in space or on another planet. Once we have the correct navcard for the interplanetary laser transponder we should be able to speak to Richtofen or Maxis at will. This seems like a possibility since nobody knows what the beams are for.

    So that would mean that the huge flying thing you see on the intro screen to nuketown flying above the crater may be the ILT.

      Yes, that could be it's original intention. The TOB could just be makeshift version of the ILT, which most likely isn't as stable, but could achieve the same goal.

       

      edit: If the lasers are just for communication, then we know blue is Maxis, and red is Richtofen. All of the audio in this game has been ripped, and we haven't learned anything new from either of them. If anything, by having the correct navcard we can finally use the navtable for it's real purpose and a new effect/step will be unlocked.
