Does bad connection give you an advantage in this game?

Posted by HelloMrMackey on Nov 24, 2012 7:50 PM

im having a bad time on black ops 2. because of all the delays i have ingame. i searched and found lag compensation is given to the guys with better internet connections. so if i get worse internet my gameplay will be better? how do i get worse internet?

You can throttle your connection via your router, or you could run your internet through your PC and use netlimiter to throttle it. You could also just play from 12am - 8am if possible, you get put with people on the other side of the world and it becomes incredibly easy to do well again.

I don't know if this works because I havn't tried, but apparently this may make the lag comp better. This video is made by a well known youtuber so it seems like a pretty legit fix.

comcast is messed up.  I tried to downgrade my connection, but it was going to cost more than the fast connection.  Stupid.

At what point in the advancement of civilisation did whats seen by on a youtube video suddenly become fact?

protip the amount of views and likes or subs for that matter is meaningless.

Another protip all that guy did was rehash someone elses tips, and explaniations wierdly now its accepted as fact as its on a youtube video.

The ironic thing though about drifts video is it DOESN'T fix lag comp, he was very clever by adding everyones favourite phrase de jour and reason to blame he got a hella lot of views.

The problem with his title isnt he isnt fixing lag comp, he's removing the piece of equipment that was causing him problems .

Without even intending to do so all he actually did was prove theres nothing wrong with the net code in the game (something a few people have inadvertently done recently)

did he change some setting or code in his game ....no

So the code is exactly the same all he did was remove something from his own network..

might b worth mulling over that next time you hear someone blame lag comp.

Yeah he probably learned about lag compensation when Some IW Devs admitted that it wasnt working correctly for everybody in MW3 and put out a half dozen patches to fix it.

Somehow I'm always host with 5 down .8 up orange Internet so I'd say its not clear cut that low Internet will make you good. Also blops 2 is the only game that's made me feel at a disadvantage every game in every gun fight I've been as bad as 0-10 lol then quit and I'm host

    In theory, no.

Lag compensation is designed to benefit connections like yours, but you aren't mean to experience any overt benefits in-game.

the worse your pings and bandwidth stress the better you are in blops2.  Download a huge file, stream, anything to lag your connection.  This should put you a few frames ahead on enenmy players.

Try this sometime. Let me know how this works out for you. If this worked so well then I wouldnt yell at my wife for downloading something while im playing. You will skip all over the screen and it will be unplayable.

some of you are really stupid.
Go and try play on a 3 bar connection, you'll then realise how much difference it makes between you and your opponent. If you're on a 3 bar and your opponent is on a 4 bar, they will see you before you see them (say if you're running round a corner). Go and try it out, because honestly, having a bad connection does NOT benefit you in this game.

No it doesn't give you an advantage.

One night as an experiment I made my Xbox-internet setup as terrible as I possibly could, and as I expected the game was unplayable.

Having an optimized connection is your best shot at minimizing latency issues.  Google maccabi's "The Elagaphant Strikes Back" if you don't know anything about this stuff.

But even with a solid setup there's still going to be frequent latency issues (unless you're really lucky).  It seems to stem from poor matchmaking.
