Black Ops II - A major step backwards.

Posted by AUTiger93x on Nov 14, 2012 4:55 AM

I'll be the first to admit that I am no serious gamer, but I do consider myself above average in most respects.  That being said, I must say that I am highly disapponted with this new CoD release.  I remember when MW3 came out, it actually WOWed me but this isn't even close.  Before you respond with hate messages, just hear me out.  The general look of the game is more cartoonish.  The players lack the detail as they did in MW3.  The maps look as if a six year old did the artwork.  I would look past all of that if the game was actually fun to play but honestly, it is not.  I find the guns aim poorly and hip-firing is almost nonexistent.  I do find the motion and movement is better than Black Ops I, but not near as good as MW3.  Maybe I will grow to love the game, but my bet is that I will carefully remove the disc. Place it back in it's protective shell and place it on the shelf with the other PS3 games that I don't play anymore.  It's not good folks.  On a scale of 1 to 10 I can easily give this new Black Ops II game a 3.

I fear that you may be one of the ones that by some unknown mystery were regularly on the good side of lag comp in MW3.  If so you are going to have a lot more trouble with aiming in BO2 because you won't really have that advantage anymore.  I lived at the edge of the bad side of lag comp in MW3.  Occassionally, I would see the good side and feel like a beast but more often I had to scratch and claw my way through every match.  So far I've found the lag comp in BO2 to be fairly even.  So if I aim properly and get the drop on a guy then I win the fight.  If he gets the drop on me then he wins.  Occasionally there is the hiccup where it goes the other way but it's a vast improvement over MW3 for me.  I'm not having any trouble aiming my guns or hipfiring.  In fact, I find it remarkable just how good it is working (maybe I'm on the good side of lag this time around).  I've only gotten a few hours in the game so far.  So I'm not ready to rate it yet but so far I like what I'm seeing.

Good response. It definitely "seems"harder than MW3 but that's okay. You might need to change your play style o.p.. Give it some time.

Just so you know it took me some time but I eventually got good enough in MW3 to post regular 2+kd games in pretty much every gamemode despite the lag.  I've even called in every killstreak (not just from carepackages) in MW3 including a MOAB (only 1 but it was in DOM so it counts).  You will find that you have to pay closer attention to how you manuver around the map to stay out of areas where you will be too exposed.  You have to give yourself as much advantage in the gunfight as you can and generally things will work out for you.  I suggest using silencers when you can to stay off the radar and buy you that additional second that you need to land some bullets before the enemy locates you (although with the UAV spam it may not matter).

Yeah, the UAV spam does change the dynamic of this CoD for sure. I don't think it's game "Breaking" at all, it just requires everyone to rethink how they play and to find a new path that makes them successful.

Yes it does change some things but I suspect that once the game gets past Christmas that people won't be using the UAV so much.  Sure it helps to build your killstreak but it's not giving you more than a couple of kills (if that) worth of help.  So I'd suspect that once people get familiar with the maps and the spawns that they will find some of the other killstreaks to be more useful for building towards their next streak.

I feel the hip fire is really good in this game...even without that laser attachment...

It's a default class if I'm not mistaken.  So everybody has it.

I definitely like the Type 25.  It reminds me of the M4A1 but I also like the MTAR which seems like the ACR to me.

Your opinion was immediatly invalid when you said you were wowed by MW3.

I don't agree with your assessment but you are entitled to your opinion as a paying customer. The thing that I noticed the most in BO2 is the wave of red dot chasing. Now that Ghost is neutered, it's just a red dot chase fest. This doesn't make the game bad, it just changes the dynamic of how to play and be successful.

I thought the graphics are fine, especially on 10 year old tech. All I can say is play on PC or wait until the new consoles come out if you expect to see lavish graphics.
