Host brings EVERYONE down to 1 Red Bar... wtf?

OK, I've been host over hundreds of games between BOPS and MW3 so I know the pitfalls of hosting and that you needs a pretty decent connection to get chosen as host.. I've been playing with a clan member that was ALWAYS running a 1 or 2 Red Bar connection several months back. He went offline for a few months and recently came back with a new internet connection. Now, he seems to have a decent connection and has all green bars...
He will just about always end up getting host at some point and as soon as he does everyone in the lobby, including him go to 1 RED BAR across the board. Not only that, but that is where everyone's connection stays for the entire match. There is no onscreen lag but it becomes almost impossible to get a kill. How is the game picking him to run host if this is what happens?
I'm wondering if something happens to his connection and it gets throttled down once he has host for some reason. How much upload data would be going outbound while playing this game as host? Maybe the problem is he has a very small upload pipeline? It's crazy and I just leave the matches as soon as he get host now.
Hm.. I've never seen it happen to someone every time, but whenever I host and that happens to me its because there is some sort of intereference going on. In the house I live at when I last played, the microwave was in such a position that the waves from there would intersect the connection from the wii to the router, causing a loss of connection (or a severe slow-down of it).. I don't know how to help in that specific case though....
Nat type most likely.....
I have never been over 1 bar except for one time when it was lagging INCREDIBLY bad. I was a five bar when it wasd lagging. ![]()
The problem is his bandwidth!
They test for the best host by the best speed, BUT your own personal bandwidth isnt taken into account. You said he got new internet, im betting he didnt get new phone cables though?
I know this for a fact coz we had a provider and our download was 8mb, which is pretty standard in this country, game played fine, got host a fair bit, played fine. Then changed provider, who`s speed was 20mb! So im thinking WOW, im gona r@pe! And it played shocking..... got them out to have a look, and the technician said that though we have a new build house (5 yrs old now), the builder used old phone cables, or the phone company did, and the bandwidth ids tiny, so will cause blockage on things like downloading music and gaming, when trying to use the full 20mb!
To put it in laymans terms, it like getting traffic on the motorway to use 1 lane instead of 3, it gets through, but nowhere near as quick. Basically your mates internet is too quick for his cables., so it shows the wrong stats to the cod servers.
We changed providers again, and they test what your cables can hold, and our was 13mb, so were on that now, and im fine, moderate, but fine, rarely host, and fine when I do.
Do struggle on host with crappy connections though.
"Do struggle on host with crappy connections though".
I have to say, I miss hosting because of that reason. I have a moderate nat type now that I'm in college and I don't pull host near as much as I used to..
No I mean I struggle when other people host who have poor connections
That's what I'm saying too. Since my nat has switched from open to moderate, I can't host as much, and I run into a lot more people who absolutely suck as host, meaning the game is terrible for me. It makes me miss hosting the games. Sorry if my response is worded awkwardly or if I'm still not understanding haha.
The connection I have isn't bad, actually I feel I can move around the game easier with the connection here, I just wish I could host instead of others.
My ping is 37ms, my download is 16Mbps, and my upload is 8Mbps. A little bit worse compared to my house, but not much
My upload is 13, download 1, ping varies from 30 to 90 ! You americans get crazy uploads, over here were to lucky to get 1+
I think you meant to say "download is 13, upload 1" haha.
But you all have a better way of spelling words. I much prefer colour over color, armour over armor, etc.
Hey beast, guess what.....Google just got 1gig download internet(i assume is 1 gig upload too) in a city in america.....imagine how pro those people would be at cod
Yeah thats what I meant ![]()
sry for my english..
the player with the lowest ping becomes host, doesnt matter what connection you have.
i have friends with way better connections than myself but my ping is the lowest so i become host.
if i start downloading stuff for exambple, everyone and myself will get down to 1 bar.
maybe a friend or a family member of his is messing up his connection while he is playing
greetings
I didnt know that, BUT either way, bandwidth is still an issue that isnt taken into account by the servers.
Love you
