Do You Write Clean Code?
While cruising through technical books on Amazon.com I came across a book by Robert C. Martin entitled, “Clean Code – A Handbook of Agile Software Craftsmanship.” The following quote was taken from the book, which convinced me to put it on my “TO READ” list.
Robert Writes:
“I know of one company that, in the late 80s, wrote a killer app. It was very popular, and lots of professionals bought and used it. But then the release cycles began to stretch. Bugs were not repaired from one release to the next. Load times grew and crashes increased. I remember the day I shut the product down in frustration and never used it again. The company went out of business a short time after that.
Two decades later I met one of the early employees of that company and asked him what had happened. The answer confirmed my fears. They had rushed the product to market and had made a huge mess in the code. As they added more and more features, the code got worse and worse until they simply could not manage it any longer. It was the bad code that brought the company down."
This concept has been labeled Technical Debt. It is just as heavy a load as monetary debt if it keeps you from delivering needed software. This story emphasizes the fact that Clean Code is not really a free ride to a quick release.
Three step process you may consider:
Do you write clean code? Can you afford not to? Share your thoughts or experiences by writing to btaylor@sswug.org.
I highlighted what I think applies to IW and their handling of development of the MW series
Love it. BAN ALL CHEATERS.
Infinity Ward wrote a "Kill Hardcore" code and ruined MW3, unless you count the people who actually like Core. If it weren't for hardcore COD would be an arcade game.
I dont really play hardcore, but dont the same problems that affect core also affect hard core?
You do know more people play core than hardcore?
Many, many more people play core. For some reason a lot of HC players think that it's the only gametype that matters. I think they get an over-confidence complex. They think because they play "hard core" that they are in turn much more skilled and better players than us normal peons that play core
lol
Personally I have quite a few friends who play hard core and complain non-stop during core matches because it's so much harder to kill people(more bullets.) So please stop your elitist thoughts, problems with the game effect everyone, not just the super uber HC players.
As to the original post, I completely agree. This game has more bugs and lag issues than ever before and compared to previous CoD titles just feels rushed and too much like a money grab. We can only hope that Treyarch will step up with BO2 and help out CoD, afterall it's my favorite franchise.
BO2 is looking good, but is a year to year cycle too much for any software house to produce a product that meets this much hype and expectations. It would probably take a year to identify and debug the flaws in the post cod4 games
It's a 2 year cycle between IW and 3arc
dont both MW and BO use the same engine, thats why there are same glitches, bugs and flaws etc
Yeah they use the same base engine much like most of the fps games. I think it's based on the quake engine but they make their own adjustments to it.
I remember reading somewhere that blops2 will be the last one on this current gaming engine as a new one will be used for the new consoles as they will be able to handle far more than now.
ok, good know that blops2 too will be a fresh engine.
Sorry I think you might have misread that slightly.
Blops2 will be on the current engine but with optimisations made by 3arc but after that it should be a completely new engine.
The thread is off topic. Locking.
