Lag/Minor Rubberband/Requesting help!

So, I've recently gotten back into MW3 not too long ago, after leaving a few days after launch. Too yet, have the same problems I thought were only going too accure during launch. (Don't get me wrong, I love this game. And no, I'm not bashing on it because it might infact be something on my mind, but it's doubtful.) I have no intentions on just dropping the game this time, as I've seen myself too get attatched back too the Call of Duty franchise.
Now, onto the subject of which I need support on.
I've been expierencing lag spikes every few minutes, minor rubber banding back a few feet and this sometimes does get me killed, well not sometimes.. It gets me killed alot, it's frusturating too say the least. I'm wondering, is there something I can do about it?
I have a great feeling that it's not my connection, 30ms. 30 down 2 up connection. (Time warner cable) etc.
I'm not able too get into a 50ms game for the life of me, mind you. I can get into one if I take the effort too keep backing out and requeueing for another game. But getting into 75 ms games is fine, due to 50ms ping games not doing a darned thing too help out in my situation.
I've opened up my port (3074) for MW3, But that's really the only suggestion I've found on the internet to see how I can fix this problem, because it's truely gamebreaking for me.
Support would be greatly appreciated! Any questions, you may ask away.
I'm also using a DIR-825 Dlink router, for anyone that wants too get technical.
Bump, MW2 tested, no problems.
Hey, this thread was very helpful for me ![]()

Hey, thanks!
I'll take a look into it. I haven't seen this thread yet. So hopefully it'll help me out! Did you have the same problem by any chance?
No not exactly. My issue was more to do with my ISP.
That thread is a great read anyways, hope it helps. ![]()
Nah, I had no luck. I'm 4 barring, still having rubberband issues.
The only thing I can suggest is to keep this thread bumped in the hope that Maccabi sees it!
Hes kinda like the connectivity oracle around here
Alright, I'll be sure too look out for a post from him if it ever comes!
Thanks for the help.
OP there is nothing you can do to your connection to "fix" this game and its poorly designed connectivity code. If your jitter and ping arent off, its not you, its the game. Ive tested my connection (30 DL, 5 UL) before, during, and after playing MW3 for two weeks. My connection didnt change (statistically speaking) but my experience in game varied as always.
Lately I cant get into a 50 ms lobby for the life of me, regardless of what gametype I play. I ping less than 50 ms out past 1000 miles away from me, so surely they could find 11 other people playing within that 1000 mile circle from me?
Hrm..
So my lag and rubberband issues aren't just me?
It's weird, due to the "shows" I watch, and "lag" doesn't really fit in with there routine as much as it does mine. But it's really a shame, i've gotten hooked too this game /again/ and I can't play it properly without getting shot due to me randomly freezing up and jittering everywhere. I'm gonna try installing the game to my harddrive. (Like that's gonna work.. But atleast my xbox won't sound like a jet engine anymore!)
Appreciate the response in advance.
If you could go to pingtest.net, and speedtest.net and post your results it might help determine for sure its not you. Are you playing wired or wireless? Is your NAT type open? ports other than 3074 should be opened really...
http://www.speedtest.net/result/2046834334.png
Wired connection.
NAT Type is open.
What other ports should be open? 80 and 88 is the others ones I've tried, and they didn't do any justice.
For the ports you can google them. Just search "XBL ports to open" should be 4 of them, including 80 and 88.
And can you post the pingtest.net results? those are a little better than the speedtest...
Hmmm. Jitter isnt high, but your line lost packets, which could lead to your rubberbanding at times...
As for the lag, not your fault, your connection probably isnt influencing this much. That part could be the game.
Hrm.. I see, is there a way to fix the packet loss? Or is this on my providers end and too technical too handle?
Its your providers line quality. Nothing you can do about that, besides switching providers.
Well darn, that 1% can cause my rubberbands to happen as frequent as they do? It happens atleast 2-3 times every.. Lets say, a minute and a half or so? Give or take. Probably not /that/ bad. It's playable. And the rubberband doesn't happen all the time, but what im trying too say. More frequent than I would like it.
So you're rubberbanding every game, just to be clear?
This is what I'm expierencing, yes.
Just weird, I tried MW2 earlier this morning. And I have zero problems.
Do the pingtest.net test a couple times (say 5) and see if your ping/jitter/packet loss changes at all.
http://www.pingtest.net/result/65829753.png -- 0%
http://www.pingtest.net/result/65829786.png - 0% 79ms Jitter.
http://www.pingtest.net/result/65829814.png - 0% 1ms Jitter.
http://www.pingtest.net/result/65829861.png - 0% 0ms Jitter
http://www.pingtest.net/result/65829891.png - 0% 1ms Jitter.
Very odd... No packet loss at all on all the tests, and the only jump I see is the 79ms on one test.
That 79ms jitter is strange...is someone else using the same connection when you were testing that time? Also, are you the only one using the connection when gaming?
Possibly someone on there laptop in the house, but at night time? It's completely dry. The internets all mine at night.
Hmmm. Idk, maybe its just the game acting up. Havent played it since last weekend. If you opened your ports, the only other thing I do which seems to help is change the DNS servers on my xbox. I use googles public ones, which are: Primary: 8.8.8.8 Secondary: 8.8.4.4. Other than that it would appear its the game...
I've also done that.
But yeah.. I guess so, bad timing to come back eh?
Ha. Its been progressively worse every update since launch, at least for me. Games broke and they arent going to fix it. November is fast approaching and they keeps saying, "oh, were working on the lag, should be fixed next week", and then that "next week" gets pushed back to the next and the next, etc. The game we have now will either be the same or worse as far as connections go, so if you cant play it like it is now, dont bother waiting around for them to fix it.
It's bareable, but extremely frusturating at times.
But at this point, I'll be eagerly counting down until that last day comes in November, I enjoyed Black ops, hopefully this one will be even better. (Oh boy, I sure hope so.)
CoD has been dying slowly, in my eyes atleast. These unpolished few CoDs that have come out in the past 2 years, has been rather... Heartbreaking, I wanna go back to the CoD4 golden days. Where jtags weren't discovered too work with CoD4, and the rest. I'm surely glad they got a strong enough firewall on this game to surpass the annoying hackers though!
I played some cod 4 the other day. Every third lobby had at least 1 hacker, but the matches that werent hacked were fun as ****, and running smoothly too I might add. There were 3000 people total playing CoD 4 that day and connections were flawless in FFA, a playlist which had 124 people in it. Hit detection was spot on, and no one was wayyyyy far ahead or behind of everyone else. Still confused as to how the devs seem to have been taking steps backwards with every CoD since then.
Bump in hope of someone that has any idea how to fix it.
