Please change the way you handle host disadvantage

Posted by Youngnoble on Jun 28, 2012 10:49 AM

I don't know how it's being done, but I do know when players with high pings ether by throttling their connection or by distance are in the lobby it effects the quality of the host's game. There needs to be some sort of cutoff. Certain pings in the lobby shouldn't be added to the average overall ping,

Any ping that is substantially higher then the average in the lobby shouldn't be calculated in.

Example:

8 Player FFA lobby

5 players in the lobby 4 bar to the host

2 players 3 bar

Do not average the two 3 bar players to the overall ping of the lobby

They should have no negative effect on the host's connection

Players with high pings in the lobby should lag and them only. They need to leave and find a better lobby.

The game went wrong when they decided to try to make it an even playing field in the lobby for everybody, that's impossible and can never happen. That concept only truly works when everybody in the lobby has a good ping to the host and then it's not really needed.

From my experience playing as host (95% of the time) it seems like one or two players connections can mess up my game, to the point that it's almost unplayable, that should never happen.

They need to focus on a better matchmaking system if they want to provide a fairer experience for everybody.

Messing with the host's experience is not the answer.

I have feeling Treyarch has learned alot from not only BlackOps, as well from IW's lack of results and the effect it has on the community.

I am certain they are also aware the fanbase is already skeptical in regards to network performance and matchmaking and it needs to be a focus point. In BlackOps they went far and beyond what was needed for security and match making, was it perfect? No, it was close in regards to lag comp, i am confident they will expand on this success.

This is one of my key issues it concerns me that there has been no assurance from Lama that they recognise the import of, and had done work on

    CONNECTIVITY

    LAG COMP

    MATCH MAKING

    SPAWN LOGIC

BALANCE although there ave been a couple of offhand comments ( Vonderhaar tweets on QS/sniper dynamics for example ).

While it is appropriate and fun to do the PR style reveals on campaign, multiplay and zombies.....given the poor and variable performance of MW3 on all these fronts, I believe it is essential for Lama to make a statement on these mattters at least to the effect 3arc recognizes and has put in solid effort on these matters.
