New knifing system confirmed for BO2.

Posted by Phoenixflyer on May 15, 2012 4:14 AM

It has been confirmed there will be a new knifing system for those of you who don't know, proof below.

Black Ops II New Knife System in the Works

Treyarch’s very active David Vonderhaar tweeted to @ONLYUSEmeBLADE regarding the Black Ops 2 knife system:

Now, what he exactly is referring to is unknown, but it appears that this is what ONLYUSEmeBLADE was thinking of for knifing in BO2:

  • A default two-hit knife system with a perk that makes it one-hit knife
  • The knife to be a secondary
  • The knife to be in the equipment slot

What do you guys think he means by this, post your idea's below.

This would have to be the most pointless perk in the game. How often do you actually use you knife in a match

If the knife is a secondary i predict the usage rate to plummet, that said, nothing is confirmed at all.

All to well if it does plummet. Using it and making videos is pointless. Everyone knoes knifing is glitched and has been since MW2.

Seems like a very roundabout way to solve a very simple problem. Call me crazy for suggesting this, but why not just do away with the lunge? Force the player to place themselves within the proper distance of the target, and it would be acceptable for the knife to be a guaranteed lethality.

Most of the time, the frustration with the system isn't that some guy just killed me with one hit- rather that he lunged right through a hail of lead to land that one hit. And mind you its not as though he had to use expert timing or precise aim to do it. He just had to press one button and he was just handed that kill on a silver platter.

So if knifing was a simple swing with no accompanying lunge, then having someone deliver that one lethal hit would demand some serious marbles on their part to get that close to the enemy. No aim assistence, no supernatural speed. Just swing your knife and if the enemy isn't already within arm's reach, then nothing freaking happens.

Bowling also said that they removed panic knifing in the run up to MW3. I'm now irrevocably emotionally scared by the promises of community managers. Until the game comes out, I'm going to be really sceptical of anything Vondehaar claims, especially when it involves the bullshit of multiplayer.

Well Gray, there wasn't alot of lunge in mw3, theres a lil' bit but no were near as much as mw2 thank god haha, the one thing that **** me, is not the lunge, it's the instaneous of dying in less then 1 sec because of a swing that hits my hip. like.. what. the. hell D:

Hi. You missed the further possibility that knifing could work like all weapon use. You must equip the weapon and then use it.

In this scenario, you must take the knife out (perhaps with knife button) and then attack (knife button). This would also go a long way to stop panic-knifing, and "being shot but manage a deadly stab" nonsense.

As for all the comments about what "confirmed" means. I think everyone should assess the "correctness" of your language. The thread title states NEW KNIFING SYSTEM CONFIRMED, and from many angles he's right - there is a new system coming and it was stated by an official. I took this to mean THERE IS A NEW KNIFE SYSTEM and AN OFFICIAL HAS IMPLIED THAT.

He did not mean - NEW SYSTEM IS CONFIRMED AS ______ (this system) or mean ANNOUNCEMENT MADE ON COD PAGE ABOUT NEW KNIFING SYSTEM.

Anyway, anything will be better than the current system.
