FEMALE CHARACTERS IN MULTIPLAYER MODE

Posted by s09_jess on May 10, 2012 12:55 PM

So if the video game industry is so advanced in enhancing video games to be more realistic why hasnt there been any female characters added in the series? Dont you all agree? Im sure I speak for all my fellow female gamers, this has been dissapointing and more so if blk ops 2 doesnt have them.

PLEASE COMMENT AGREE OR DISAGREE

and maybe treyarch will take notice.

If there are going to be any female characters. There's going to be 12 year old boys running around as women. But yeah, I do agree with your post.

Might be something to do with a male-dominant, immature audience. I know in Zombies mode there's been Sarah Michelle Geller. And in Black Ops 2 there's a female character now. And in the Black Ops 2 trailer, the U.S. president is a female. So there's a few, but not in multiplayer. It's a shame too.

It might be because even till this day the US military doesn't use women in direct combat roles.

sure lets make special female characters because 0.000001% of COD gamers is female.

    HAHAHAA you're funny

thats actually quite sexist, i know a lot of girls who play call of duty. Bloody stereotypes

For many female gamers, the ability to play a female character is important. For others (like myself) it really doesn't matter. As long as they shoot the same, and have the same hit boxes, I'll play whatever characters are available.

I have always assumed that the lack of female characters is a result of what skippinglobster references - Women aren't usually in direct combat. The Army's rule is that women are not allowed in infantry units.  Just recently, the Marines opened up one of their training classes to female officers in positions such as medics, radio operators and tank mechanics. (The Marine Corps Times - 4/20/2012).

So, I assume the lack of female characters is a result of staying close to the realism of the time period.  That being said, we're going to the future on this next title - and that means female characters could be included.

We'll have to wait for more intel from Treyarch on MP to know for sure.

Good point about the future, there could totally be a bunch of G.I. Jane's by 2025. That would actually be a pretty cool thing to add in as a nod to the few female gamers that do enjoy Call of Duty. Heck, my girlfriend is one so I do know they exist.

Well in the picture for zombies released the person holding the gun and skull is clearly female.

Let's look at it from a technical standing.

They would have to do completely different character models, sounds (voice effects, etc) just for multiplayer. You can't even see your own character defeating the purpose, as it's first person. Some games do have female character models and they don't work well (play Combat Arms, the women characters are shorter/slightly faster and have different hitboxes as an effect)

Another reason is 95% of people just don't care.

I would prefer the developers focus on enhancing gameplay rather than catering to a niche of the popluation.  I don't care one way or the other if my character is male or female, black or white, because the only time I'd see him/her is in someone else's killcam.

To the earlier poster about women in direct combat roles - the U.S. military has opened up a number of direct combat specialties to women in the past year.  I know a lot of women who earned the Combat Action Ribbon and Combat Action Badge for their service in Iraq and Afghanistan, so it's not a matter of sexism for me, but one of game design priorities.  Make a flawless game, then get into the asthetic details.

i agree with what you say and understand...but you cant have developers saying that they are trying to create games that are closest to reality as possible and yet not take into consideration these simple things....and this is not alot of work compared to the amount of time they spend trying to ban people for mistakes they forgot to patch within the game rather than working to actually patch the game

Are COD developers really saying that they are trying to create games that are as close to reality as possible? I didn't think they were.

Either way, I really don't know why the devs can't slap some boobs on a character, maybe some long hair and call it a day. Shouldn't be too hard.

I think it's a great idea to add it in. The mass majority of players would drop in KD from seeing a girl for the first time.

It would be cool if there was, I know few female players, they all see it as important thing to have a playable female character, so why not?

I belive there are plenty of girls/women playing games, but the ones who are bit shy or something rather don't go out yelling it to every player because mostly the players are guys and well, I've seen where that always leads, insults or then the guys are saying other stuff that makes everyone feel bit awkward

    Great idea females!

I would love female characters in BOII, that way when I kill them, I can say, "you know where war never happens?"

Maby at the start of multiplayer or even when you start the game for the first time it the game asks weather you are MALE or FEMALE then when you play your person is one or the other

Women are already in indirect combat postions, and as far as direct combat, it's not that far off...

    http://www.utsandiego.com/news/2012/apr/24/marines-prepare-open-infantry-officer -course-women/

42% of gamers are female, so that's not a problem. The only problem I see is Treyarch getting lazy and saying "Oh, it's too hard to adjust hitboxes for females." You don't need to adjust hitboxes and models. The uniforms and models shown by basic soldiers in the trailer look unisex, and since most of the characters had on masks, just add female voices.

Like for instance, you can choose whether or not you'll hear "COVER ME I'M RELOADING" in a female or male voice in the settings.

Well said! Gears 3 dealt with the hit boxes issue very well by having the armor for male and female be similar. And you're right, females on the front line are in progress if not already happening.

I agree, Gears 3 wasn't a problem with female characters.

The only time it was a problem imo was Combat Arms, where female models and hitboxes were slimmed down. And in the game you can "nutshot" someone for an instant kill. However, females were immune to this, for obvious reasons. XD

Whle i agree with what you are saying; I am sure the devs already stated that the reason they weren't adding female characters was due to the hitboxes (the places that determine where your bullet has hit) being smaller due to a smaller character model, which would give an unfair advantage.

I'd like to, but females aren't allowed into pretty much any of the multiplayer factions that have real-life counterparts that you play as:

    SAS,

    MARSOC,

    Delta-force,

    Navy SEALS,

    Rangers,

    MACV-SOG,

    Spetsnaz,

    Presumably any Task Force,

And what about the women being less bulky than their male counterparts in-game, meaning a smaller target?

Too much aggro' for 3arc to keep a minority of female gamers slightly pleased.

I agree that Women should be in the Multiplayer. Well, Zombies did bring in Ponytail tech so it is possible I suppose... (I mean to bring in women, not ponytails'
