Optical Audio cable goes from the console to the DSS. Then you plug the green 3.5mm (headphone size) jack into the DSS. The mini USB they provided is to power the DSS, plug that into the 360 in an open USB port. Then plug the X11s USB into the USB passthrough on the DSS. You no longer need the RCA adapter in this kind of setup since the Optical cable provides the audio. I have the DSS myself and have used it for just about everything from X11s, XLCs, PC headsets (via PC to 360 adapters). I'm pretty happy with it myself. Hope you enjoy it.

By the way for anyone looking to save a couple bucks, that PC headset I mentioned is the Plantronics Gamecom 367. It cost me $25 on Newegg and sounds better than my X11s (I have two pairs and two pairs of XLCs). It isn't powered so you can use it as headphones. It has noise cancellation which helps if you have lots of people using TBs in the same room (any team would know how bad the echo from the mics gets). There is a 360 version of the same headset that goes for $50-60, just to give you an idea of how good the deal is. Then you just hop on ebay get a $3 PC-360 adapter and you just got something that sounds as good or better than X11s, with a better mic, for half the money.

There is a bass boost level on the side of the DSS, you can turn up the Bass Boost from there. Other things you can do are make sure you run Dead Silence Pro, which will make their footsteps louder. Also, most people run Dead Silence themselves so it's harder to hear footsteps. If they have Dead Silence on you can still hear them reload or shoot their weapon. There are various things you can listen for other than just footsteps.

      Good info,

Looking to get a headset so I can game late at night and not disturb others in the house. So could I get the plantronics 367's and a PC-360x adapter and run that without having to buy anything else. Sorry if this seems Noobish but I'm new to the headphone game. Thanks for any help you could provide.

Depending on what kind of controller you have you may need one of those puck adapters the short little female to male 2.5mm jack adapters, because the cheap PC-360 adapters are puck shaped. I had like four lying around since most video games that come with peripherals have them. If you use the regular Microsoft controller it's not an issue.

If your TV has a headphone input you could use that to connect the game sound, otherwise you'll need a 3.5mm to RCA (the red and white) adapter, which you could probably get for $2. If you can't find that adapter it's sometimes cheaper to get an RCA to male 3.5mm and just get a 3.5mm coupler.

If you have any other questions feel free to ask.

Do not use the bass boost on the DSS device.  Set the bass on your mic cable, if you have it.

Easiest way, that I found, was to set your mic level bass adjustment all the way up and then adjust the bass level from the DSS device to the desired level.
