rock.theory so far the only time I noticed lag comp is when playing in private match with 2 people. I was the host and my friend had yellow bars yet the game said i had yellow bars as well. So the game did make my connection worse to compensate for my friend. I thought it was odd but it's only fair I guess. It might be patched now.

Currently Being ModeratedRe: Optimizing your connection on the Xbox - The Elagaphant strikes back (updated 29th Dec)
Hey guys, I brought up this question a couple weeks ago but it was right before the break so the timing may not have been "optimal". Anyway...
When I test my MTU it says it still needs to fragment all the way down to 1384. This being the lowest Xbox will accept should I just leave it at 1384 or could this indicate an issue with my connection?
Any help would be appreciated!

Well still can not change the mtu setting. But setting up the firewall rules did give me an open nat. Its not buttery smooth game play, still some lag and sync issues but that is probably from the wireless. Still over all the attempts and what was learned was worth the time being invested to do so.

Maccabi, should we change our MTU settings back to 1500 with the new lag comp updates? Is there any coorelation between MTU and lag comp?
Also did some tests with DNS servers. 2 xbox's set up on the same network with different DNS server settings. Both xbox's were connected to the same match online. One xbox had 2 bars and one had 4 bars.
I have set up the optimal dns on my xbox and it is great for solo play. However when i am in a party it runs better using my ISP DNS settings. Most likely because other members in my party use the same dns as well as anyone on my ISP in the area.

"This is an important fact to remember .I will add though Fibre optic cable is obviously faster than the old fashion copper wire based adsl connections (unless you live in the UK or Ireland where pikeys keep knicking all the copper cabling)."

Liked that bit, true story, some places they'll even steal the wheels of your car as your driving past!
Very informative post and I'm sure it'll help a lot of people, good man.- Report Abuse

nothing i post in this thread is supposed to be taken as a "fix" for game issues just bear that in mind
mtu..the smaller the mtu the lower your ping will be (generalised without going into the maths) lower the ping better gaming expereince and yes ping does affect lag comp
matchmaking is screwed its alot worse if your in a party, it takes everyone not just the party leader so majority wins when it comes to finding a lobby
@that6uy420 honestly no idea mate sorry never used one + i dont like to give reviews/ opinions on equipment as its just that an opinion

Mac you should make a thread that helps Infinityward fix the problems with their game , that way when we go from cod4 to waw to mw2 to black ops to mw3 we can utilize the same router settings and internet service.
