There is a reason for that - if people could see the actual ping while playing on XBL and connected through the XBL Gateway they would all complain that their ping is being inflated by the game.

How many other CONSOLE games show your actual ping at any given time?

    And ........

    Battlefield?

    Homefront?

Any other games? Preferably twitch shooters.

Out of curiosity - how does the ping shown in Streetfighter compare to the ping when tested on pingtest.net?

Good read, latency is just ridiculous.

I hear ya. This stuff is absolute death to a rusher. When I die I want there to be a reason why I died and a solution as to how I can get better. A lot of times in MW3 it seems like no matter how much you do right, you're going to die regardless.

Rush in and get in to head-to-head gunfights, get the first shots off on target only to basically insta-die. Watch the kill cam and it looks like you're basically purposely running into death.

Come across a long range enemy, start to engage, realize you're not going to win this battle and duck behind cover only to die once you're about five feet behind it.

Heading towards a corner when you suddenly die without seeing an enemy. Watch the killcam only to see the guy run around the corner and take you out before he even appeared on your screen.

    Frustrating to say the least.

Re: The lag has gone mainstream

The bars on MW3 are a joke. Atleast in MW2 and Black Ops I would know when or atleast why I was lagging. If I had 2 bar I could atleast realize it and attribute it to why I was lagging. In this game you can be rocking four bar and be glitching around the map the whole time or you can have 2 bar and everything runs fine. I just wish it was MW2 style. I don't see any reason that would warrant a change especially considering all the flak Black Ops got for it.

Interesting to say the least, but really just a lay man's guide to the issue.  The one thing I can say is that it was exceptionally presented and in the end I pretty much agree with the conclusion.

Problem is that I just heard from JD 2020 (former 3arch dude), he claims this whole article and the videos are still simply all still in our heads and not real.

It takes a special someone, like JD and Bobby Bowling, to do their job. You not only have to be a good spin doctor. You also have to be able to completely deny that you intentionally, lead everyone astray. Im not trashing them. I know I couldnt keep a straight face doing it.

Re: The lag has gone mainstream

was an ok article, lots of mistakes though, comparing client side animations with event triggered animations (muzzle flashes between player for example), not accounting for lag compensation another..

they got the whole p2p slightly wrong but end of the day all they actually proved was if you are further away you have more latency not really a major discovery

some stuff worth remembering but meh
