Feedback: Lag, hosting and spawns
Before the update the game was unplayable. After the update the lag is hit and miss (when not hosting). On some games lag is on my side and in other games you can’t get a kill. Lag seems to vary across playlists.
Hosting just doesn’t work for me (i am on 10MB down and 1MB up) . For example, last night I was hosting a KC. I was 1 sec behind everyone with a KD of 0.2. Half way I rage quit, saw the migrating host screen. Tried to join the same playlist. I was put back in the exact same game but this time I was not the host. I finished with a KD of 4.
Spawns! Last night I was spawning behind my enemies! lol, good for me not good for them.

I played tonight on PS3 1.14, and I found overall hit-detection to be a lot better. And I saw a lot more 4 bars. I purchased a new router that is basic, and doesn't have all the bells and whistles of m other one. I now can get into <100ms lobbies. I find it improved however the spawns seem worse.
As have I. Even though there is still some work to be done a smidgen towards the connectivity side.
@G IH A IN ID II: I still cannot understand how I can have 4bars to the host (if I wasnt the host) in a <50ms lobby, and shoot a guy with a steady 3bars and not kill him with a shotgun up front. Now this is not about Shotguns, it is about the disparages between receiving and sending damage.
Yeah I don't understand what purpose the connection bars serve at all. They aren't predictive of anything and mean nothing it seems. Some of the worst games I've had with insta kills, sync issues, stuttering have come with everyone pegged out on 4 bars. I also don't understand why they don't inform you when you are host so that people can give accurate feedback and diagnose issues better. The only way people know for sure is if they back out now. If there is a good reason anyone knows of for us not having that info easily and every time, I would like to know what it is.

Very interesting experience tonight. I got home from a friends and figured "what the hell" i would see how it is playing. I played about 5 games, each one of them, smooth, hit markers dead on, semtex worked(?). Only once out of the 5 games was there a moment of "serious lag" ( rubber band effect ) it lasted 2 seconds and resumed.
Threw me off completely, keep in mind, this was playing at 4am MNT, when i logged in, there was a playlist update ( another tweak ) ? 50ms, very rare 75ms, backing out of 75ms and i was right back in 50ms lobbies, 22K in TDM.
Tomorrow around 6pm MNT for me will be the real test, shocking to say the least, it does not feel like the same game that has performed like **** since 1 week after release. I anticipate this holds up ( other then random moments ).
I would love nothing more then to share play style, perks, tatic ideas instead of the constant focus on shitty lag comp and connectivity issues.
Anyone else seeing these improvements?

Now take into affect different/misconfigured routers, packet loss, net load, jitter into each players connection, and the small change that was made into MW3 just became a lot bigger. DSL has a lot more jitter than a fiber connection, especially if it's not just the player on the connection. Don't fix what wasn't broke.Hope I came clear on this.
And mac didn't you say the intervals in MW2 were set when IW was trying to find a fix for lag or something in a rush. Are we not learning from history of a past title?
When the old iw changed the search in mw2 it was more of a placebo affect than anything it just made people assume there sessions would be that much better, in the grand scheme of things the differences in game quality between getting into a session that you pinged 50ms too and one you pinged 60ms too is tiny you're talking like a 10/1000th of a second difference you wouldnt even notice it .
But again as i keep saying changing the ping search to smaller incremental steps doesnt really do anything worthwhile, you'll still end up getting in the same sessions most of the times just it will take that much longer
You can't really say dsl has more jitter than fibre, it depends how the packets are routed,if you want look up more info google packet delay variation (pdv) thats the correct technobabble name for what everyone calls jitter .

I played some more last night, solo on ground war. I did seem to get into lobbies with mostly local players, typically low ping games, etc. The game played very well, but there still did seem to be the odd player that would be in "god mode," where they always seemed to be just a little bit ahead of me in every situation. Still, an improvement.
One thing I did notice was that nearly every time a host migration occurred, the game went to crap. Even worse than the absolute worst in the past. Entire lobby would go to 2-3 bars, sometimes worse, and it would remain that way for the rest of the game. Would get that wonderful "running through jelly" feeling, players would be horribly out of sync with each other, C4 would blow up 2 seconds late, would not get hitmarkers until halfway through a magazine. One time, after enough deaths in a row to get Juiced, I didn't get the speed boost until a full two seconds after I had spawned. Fun stuff.
Anyhow, thanks for all your hard work on this ghandi (and macc and capp). Keep the updates coming.

I would agree In mw2, as the player base is smaller, 25 ping intervals would be better there, as it would speed up the matchmaking and drop you in the same lobbies generally. However mw3 is in its prime, there should be no reason for me to play so many 3 bar pinging players in the two most popular game modes. In just a few seconds the matchmaking gets over 100 ping potentially. This is stupid.
The ping intervals are 25. Within less than a few second people now potentially get dropped in 0-100 plus ping lobbies. If they search for closer lobbies constantly, we will see less 3 bar players lagging the lobby & more local hosts.
Why would you compare it to 50 ping when those lobbies are far & few in between even in the most popular game modes, we are talking about people getting dropped in lobbies over 100 ping (people with 3 bars or lower generally) with this fast out of sync matchmaking system, we would much rather have a lobby full with people pinging < 0-60, 0-70 ping, but since the matchmaking searches for 0-100, 0-125 plus ping lobbies very fast, it’s not happing near as much as with mw2 in its prime.
If they keep the ping intervals 25, they should install a < 75 ping default lock that searches for games in this zone only constantly in the big game modes at least, as people get dropped in 100 plus ping lobbies in just a few seconds now potentially. Which should be optional to undo for people living far away / playing irregular times.

Isn't this a waste of resources though? Based on the slow progress we've seen with everything else, the public opinion is that you guys have plenty of work to be focusing your efforts on. Putting out an entirely new game mode that will consume your (IW personnel) time with booster babysitting seems like a less-than-ideal situation. Just saying.
The process is automated. Only suspect boosting sessions are highlighted. We do this on all playlists.

Bullshit. If that were the case we wouldn't have to run and tell Bancandy about all the boosters we've caught/witnessed.

Well I have people I sent video of them boosting to BanCandy over a month ago and nothing has been done, so that doesn't seem to do a whole lot either. Hell I just looked at one of their elite profiles, last game infected, 28 kills of their second controller. Still boosting away and nothing done about it. Like I said weeks ago, IW just doesn't care about boosting.
