People are already looking at this. I don't have a PS3 to hand since I am traveling. To be clear the tick we are talking about is it in the lobby, pre-game start or both?

I think it's the pre-game start.
Yes, I just played a match a few minutes ago and I was not able to hear the Dead Silence user even though I had SitRep Pro.

Ghandi i know you cant talk about it too much but could you assume that there people out there throttling directly say through QoS through router settings, and there are people out there affecting games indirectly through torrent downloads or other video streaming. And i know you cant talk about it but the way lag comp is coded it is literally affecting all gun fights, I mean i've witnessed it numerous times i can kill one person fast then next person takes loads of bullets, its constantly changing in game for me (someone who doesnt throttle) but people who do throttle reap the benefits, consistent quick kills. (i'll always be the player on the worse off side, as i refuse to tamper with my QoS).
Can nothing be done about this? what happened to good old COD4 days if you download movies or tamper with your connection you will LAG and no-one else only that person will warp around the map and have no hitmarkers and rubber bullets. same in MW2, surely you remember?

I was just checking on denkirson's forum on the sitrep dead silence fix for ps3. They were saying that the range at which sitrep pro was able to hear dead silence users was very small. They said it was like commando range. If this is the case that might not be a large enough effect.
If this is true dead silence users will still be able to hear sitrep users at a normal range and volume, while sitrep users will only be able to hear people extremely close and they will still hear their own footsteps as well. Sitrep should be a near perfect counter to dead silence. A sitrep user should be able to hear a dead silence user like a non sound altering 3rd tier perk user can hear another non sound altering perk user.
I would like to know the functional fix that the ps3 got. At what range and volume can a sitrep user hear a dead silence user compared to how non sound altering perk users hear eachother?

totally agree with snipingdbag post, can anybody see a reason why i shoudnt throttle my connection, ive put up with hosting since this game came out, if i switch to wireless i'm still host, i barely finish any match due to the sheer frustration of hosting, i never see red screen, impossible to win a one on one encounter, if i cross the road and go to my friends house he has dirt cheap god awful internet connection never host, but ill play on his and i feel like the terminator on roids untouchable, indestructable......red screen blood spatter it dont matter carry on killing taking shots who cares i cannot die......how ridiculous is this scenario, i shake my head in disbelief.

With all due respect, It's been 5 months and host lag still isn't sorted, this is exclusively the reason that people are throttling their connections making the game play worse than it previously did. Although hit detection isn't much of an issue for me after all of the patches it clearly is for some people. I do however have massive issues when I am host, which is a lot of the time, all it does is fustrate you and I've nearly tampered with my conn multiple times but I've decided not to so far.
It boils down to either, fix host disadvantage or the problem of throttling with only get worse, it's that simple.
Also as somebody said earlier host advantage is actually a positive for all involved. People with disadvantage want to get an advantage so therefore upgrade their internet increasing the amount of good hosts that everyone can benefit from, not just the host. I'd be interested to hear why Infinity Ward do not agree with this hypothesis.

I've been meaning to comment on CAPP00's (forgive me if I got the name wrong from memory) very well put together video.
Much of what he eloquently presents is true of any online game, bar those that employ a lock step mechanism. What you see on screen and what the server's view of the world is are rarely, If ever, in sync. This is true of MW1-3 as well as Black Ops. Since Black Ops introduced theater, however, you have been able to see behind the curtain. so to speak, and visualize this delta. We do not 'fix up' the replay in any way.
So when everyone is out of sync with each other what can you do? Try to fairly resolve disparate views of reality. This is what we are attempting to balance as fairly as possible.
We are implementing one of the things CAPP00 suggested in the next TU (indeed maccabi also suggested this some time ago). MW3 currently attempts to place parties in a lobby where everyone has an equivalent ping to the host. This was well intentioned - same ping = no advantage/disadvantage in theory. However, the transient nature of lobbies, host migrations and the fact that parties are often geographically widespread has caused us to rethink this policy. A four bar connection is always better than a one or two, clearly. We have decided it is better for our players to have control over this by searching for games in the region of the host and use the 'make player party host' functionality provided in the game to see what provides the best solution for them. Why didn't we do this before? We were/are concerned that this is a fairly technical concept to understand for the mass market player who wants to just party up with mates and shoot people.
We'll see how this change impacts the game. The closer the parity in perceived state amongst as many players in a lobby as possible the better the gaming experience will be.

Another well intenioned change implemented for MW3 was to smooth out the visualization of those players who were lagging, in other words, improve the client side visualization of predicted positioning and movement. This was intended to make sight tracking players more easy, however, it has had a side effect of obfuscating those with high latency by not showing players teleporting around.

I have an idea that might help those suffering from those issues in a party, where they're struggling to find the best host.
Would it be feasible during the party lobby (before selecting any matches), to see the average ping of all the players in the party to the current party host (displayed numerically, rather than as bars)? Whtat this would do is allow people to quickly fine-tune which host provides the lowest-average ping for the party, especially if the match-making is going to be based around the host-player's region.
Additionally, one thing I've never been able to get an answer on is, why can't we see the actual numbers for Ping values? I've seen mods in the previous versions of the game that allow us to see that information, but it's never there legitimately for us to see.
3-4 bars only tells us so much when we're trying to fine-tune our overall experience, especially in regards to our party. Being able to see those values allows us to see what we're actually looking at when we're seeing that we have 2-3 bars.
