TU8+the most recent hotfix (1/30/12) has made matchmaking horrible for me.
I join games under 50 ping within 5 seconds of starting the search and end up in a lobby where over 50% of the people are 3-bars and I'm one of the few with 4, and Lag Comp is worse than EVER. Seriously, it's unplayable.
I got in a game the other day where everyone including me was 1-bar and I had better register than when I'm host...
No, it's not an issue on my end, no, I'm not just bitching, yes, I've tried everything to improve connection issues.

When thrown into a nearly finished game on the losing side, it was possible to exit without incurring a loss, as advised by Robert Bowling. Since TU8 you now incurr a loss. The only workaround now is to dashboard to avoid the loss. Why did you go backwards and remove a useful feature?

@GHANDI (and all other devs...):
WTF? So you're telling us, that you can't create a game, which uses not too much bandwidth, so all players could play on the same level like it has been years ago?
have you ever thought about getting rid of unnecessary bullshit? who needs a crappy theater, where you aren't even able to record others POV, or where free camera shows something different than first person view (no moab, no killfeed i.e.).
sorry GHANDI, i respect you for communicating and responding to the community, but i lost all faith in your company...
i opened tickets @ elite, they get closed without resolving the issues (i can't decline clan invites, they keep getting showed after log in -> support says i have to open ports... standardized answers, good work for a billion dollar franchise...).
i can go on and on about ranting, but i also can stop right here, i doubt you're reading this anyway ...
get your game back to the roots, i assume a CoD4 uses much less bandwidth than MW3 does... i don't have the problems with coD4 nowadays, although the situation with CoD4 and MW3 is the same concerning different connections of different players.
i will try MW3 again after the next patch. if nothing changes i'll wait for Treyarch to deliver, show us, that you are able to fix your game. right now its crap - face it!

It's nice to be able to use the other shotguns now, but I don't see the fairness in this netcode at all. There are some great things in this edition, but the lack of direct live action within it ultimately undermines the whole experience.

Can you reimplement what was done in MW2 and let pistols call in things like UAVs faster? The decrease in pistol secondaries may come from there being no benefits to using them. Also, why is the .44 Magnum a three hit kill even in close quarters?
This. Please...
What sort of balancing issue was there with calling in a UAV quickly while using pistols? It's so annoying to call in anything with that damn banana phone...

out of interest how did you measure this 100-150ms difference?
you do realise a 3bar player has a ping of approx 100-199ms right? theres the difference right there
A demo contains what your client saw and what the server/host saw.
You play the recorded demo and record the output using various hardware .. or you choose to render/upload and download.
With a real "video" of what happend you can use a video editing software or if you want a stopwatch to measure time.
Now you measure how long you saw the enemy and how long it saw you (till you die).
Dang .. theres a difference.
btw i think three bars equals to 75-100ms.
While i expect a difference (due to connection latency) i would expect that difference between server and client to be the latency between server and client.
Now if client and host are on the same console .. where are those 100-150ms are comming from?
From the lagging client? A lagging client adds lag to my client<->server connection?
Doesnt make much sense...unless its artificial and part of this "better" lag compensation (or a bug).
The initial question was more or less rhetorical.. because its difficult for me to proove all that stuff (provide materials/vids/graphics .. PowerPoint slide anyone?
). And ..
.. Devs have to reproduce it anyway...you didnt answer my question if you're going to make statements like you measured a difference i was expecting you to come bck with some fancy recording software that can measure in frames.. 100-150ms is round a 10th of a second very hard to measure to that level of accuracy
especially with a stopwatch ....not understanding what your point is really as you seem to be confusing alot of stuff, for example you said
"
i would expect that difference between server and client to be the latency between server and client.
Now if client and host are on the same console .. where are those 100-150ms are comming from?"
the difference is between players , if you're host you still have a difference between players nothing changes sorry im really not getting your point at all here it just comes across as you read alot of the garbled theories people have posted on here and mashed them all into one equally confuddled statement.

Im always a step behind was hoping the net code tweak would help but it didnt. Just go back to the mw2 setup. Bottomline the better your internet the worse the lag comp. i was talking to someone who i was unable to hit in a lobby and i asked him whats his upload download lol he said 2 down 1 up. My connection is 35 times his. How am i ever gonna be on the same level with that
Ugostretched,
RIght here you have hit squarely on the head the problem any online 'twitch' competetive game faces nowadays be it listen server or dedicated infrastructure based: the vast disparity between the quality of connection available to players. This is the problem all online game designers face nowadays. This disparity didn't exist to the same degree even 2 years ago and was virtually non existent in the MW1 era. Is it fair that those with high quality ISPs should win automatically? No. Is it equally fair that those with entry level ISP performance automatically win? Also no. The challenge we face is to ensure the balance between these extremes is equitable for all and this is a non trivial problem. This is what we continue to work on. Add to the problem that many people are artificially employing a more sophisticated version of lag switching by artificially throttling their upload bandwidth either via router settings or other means and the problem is exacerbated.
We have other fixes and optimizations queued up which we believe will help, and will continue to work on the problem.
Best,
G IH A IN ID II
Ok, since it is obvious the game/other systems/the MW3 servers can see what our conections are how about matching up the people with really good connections against the other really good connections, and the people with the bad/lower connections can get matched up with other people with the same type of connection? Would that not decrease some of the lag that we see in matches that right now have a mix of people with the really fast connections like myself(Fios) and lower connections say a low end DSL? We all know those connections are mixed in games as you can ask people what they have(if you can understand them through the busted chat feature(PS3)). Personally I would not mind if matchmatking took a little longer to get equally matched connection types(speed, ping, etc) together if that meant less lag for everyone, and honestly it really shouldn't take much longer as it seems to me that most people do have better connections that are trying to play MW3.
PS any update on .08 for PS3 other than "Sony is working to clear it?" An estimate please.

F*cking lol.
I knew it was my imagination. The second I get a fluctuating connection (between 3 and 4 bars), the shotguns become utterly useless.
Sigh...
