It's not Lag Compensation that's the issue, all online games use it.

Games have been using lag Compensation since Half-Life got it's netcode updated back at 1999... or around that year. I can't remember exactly when. There are many methods in lag compenation. Modern Warfar uses the Rewind Time method. Here's a wiki link that explain more about lag and lag compensation. You don't need to read the whole thing to understand, just the part that talks about Rewind Time. It even has a video link that explains more.

The reason why I'm showing this is that there are some posters here that don't understand the problem in full. Some people say that Lag Comprensation should be completely remove, but that would make things just as bad, having to lead your shots ahead of the direction of movement of your target. It's just that the Rewind Time method is poorly emplemented in this game. It works fine when ping time is low, but if it gets too high, you get that affect where you sware you filled your target with so much lead that he should be a pencil, yet he still killed you, yet on the kill cam, it shows you squeesing out like 2 or three shots. Rewind Time needs to be handled better on players that are lagging. The Source Engine on Team Fortress and Counter-Strike does a better job applying the Rewind Time method. I'm not saying that Valve, the company that created the Source Engine for these games, invented Lag Compensation and Rewind Time, but they where the first ones to use that method.
Basicly, the netcoding needs to be optimized. Rewind Time needs to be handled better and should be tone down or turned off on players with ping that is too high.
I hope this makes things more clear about Lag Compensation and how it works... or supposed to work properly.
I wonder if there's a better place to post this so people can have more knowlage of what lag compensation and rewind time is.
I agree with you but irregardless of what people "think" is happening or the rants to get rid of it. The problem that IS effecting a number of players ie:poor implementation still needs to be fixed....or at least as you said tweaked, because right now it's just ridiculous. I've personally noticed that if you have higher ping discrepancies on the same team, like 2 guys with yellows one guy with a 3bar one redbar ect and you get host, your match is almost unplayable. Being the host however seems to be this particular implementations Achilles heel.
Thanks for this. Something is definately off.
MW2 is the last game i remember that didn't have this "die in half a second but take 20 bullets to kill someone else then die around corners thing"
It was in black ops too, but i was pulling host alot which meant that i had a better experience (although being 4 bar but not host was still hair tearing)
Oh yea! Don't get me wrong. For as much as I love this game, it's fustrating when I'm about 10 meters from a corner and someone from the other team comes around that corner and blasts his shotgun into my face at point blank range. Yet, from my point of view, I didn't even see him come around the corner. Sometimes it feels like some gamers are using it as an advantage.
I do hope hey patch the netcoding. I don't have knowlage if Black Ops had their netcode patch or not. But if they didn't, I'm afraid they might not do it for MW3 eather. Plus, I don't know how hard it is to patch or optimize netcoding on a console compare to a PC game.
Where do I look at on the score board to know who's the host? Is there like an icon or something?
They didn't fix the problem in Black Ops, but Black Ops played differently and you could change your game to compensate. The developer said that they wanted this to be more intense so the problem seems much worse.
I don't think anyone really wants the lag compensation removing, they just want an even playing field, so when you go into a fire fight you die because the other guy was better not because of your connection
Hey I totally agree that the LC needs to be optimized for the game......obviously not removed.
I started the thread PLEASE SIGN HERE IF YOU FREQUENTLY FEEL HANDICAPPED BY LAG COMP, yadda, yadda, yadda, which has quite a few views.
You're welcome to post the link in there if you want....
Nice thread buddy, But my question is if mw2 - blc ops was very good why not just copy what they did? and the bigger question is why Activision doesn't provide dedicated servers for the most profitable series this generation or maybe even of all times.
It's not the fact that they use lag comp, it's how MUCH they use it, they are most definately OVERcompensating so the "noobs" keep playing.
@abdou23 the sheer amount of people who play CoD would require far too many servers worldwide for it to be a feasible option, the likes of GoW, or BF don't have near as large a player base, so they can use it without problems, CoD would need a server in almost every city in the world.
Not to mention the fact that they would end up taking servers from older CoDs to use in newer ones, I.E if Blops or MW2 used dedis, they would take them, essentially ending that games MP altogether.
