We have a freezing and saving problem with Prototype. Game will freeze up at intermittent times at all levels of play (even when just standing around and not moving). We get a total video freeze with no sound, and no reaction from the console when controller buttons are pressed. Normal operations resumes when console is powered down and rebooted. When the game is running, and do numerous saves, most are not existent on the hard drive when checked. The problems do not exist when other 360 games are played. The console has been reflowed, reclamped, repasted, respacered, and 4x fans and Elite heatsinks have been added; we have had superior play to the point when we purchased Prototype.
We have swapped the DVD back to Best Buy three times, no change. We have put the console in horizontal position, no change. We have burned the game to the 20G hard drive, no change. We have bypassed the router and connected the DSL modem directly to the console, no change. We have signed in and out of Xbox Live before game play, no change either way. We physically disconnected the ethernet, no change. We removed the hard drive and played the game as long as we could without doing a manual save; suprisingly, we went over 60 minutes before freezing.
It seems to me that the game frezes up when trying to do a save; most of the time, the save symbol is there when the game freezes, Add to the fact that when we do a manual save, it doesn't exist on the hard drive when we try to start the game from that level of play...
Activision: Does Prototype cease the autosave function when there is no hard drive available? Is there a line command to turn it off? Also, is Prototype dependent on a certain level of disk speed and read/write-access time from the hard drive during save functions? Our system is over two years old, the hard drive that came with it is supposedly the original. If the drive was swappeed out for one of the newer (and faster) 100G models, would the lockup-on-save and loss-of-saved game conditions be eliminated?
Players: If you are not experiencing either the freezing problem and/or the loss-of-saved-game problem, please post what kind of 360 system you are running, how old it is, and what type of hard drive are you using.
Thanks!!!
