XBOX 360 DISC READ / UNRECOGNIZED DISC / ETC ERRORS

I got the game for the 360 yesterday and it alternates in giving me various disc problem errors when I try to start it.  I looked at the disk and there was a noticeable "swirl" in the plastic of the disc.  So I took it back to the Gamestop and swapped it out.  I opened it before I left the store and noticed it had the same swirl.  The manager could see it as well.  He pulled out a stack of the discs and we looked at ALL of them and they ALL had a similar swirl pattern on the disc.  We picked the one that seemed to have the least amount of swirl, and then he put it in a used 360 they had and it started up and made it into the intro scene.

I took it home and put it in my machine and it gave me the unrecognized disc right off, so I rebooted the xbox and reloaded the disc.  Then I actually almost got to the menu when it crapped out again with a read error   I made a movie of it.  Of course both yesterday and today I played several of my other games that have been working and they all work just fine.  It's only a problem with the Prototype disc

I REALLY want to play the game this weekend, so I was wondering if anybody else has run into this problem, or knows why there is a "swirl" on the discs.  I'm going to take it back to Gamestop AGAIN tomorrow and swap it out, but I'm not hopeful...  I work with computers for a living and am familiar with troubleshooting.  The problem is that it is inconsistent.  All my games play fine on my XBOX 360.  The Prototype game will NOT play.  Therefore it is an issue with the Prototype disc.  However, it DID play in the store machine. *sigh*

I just hope somebody has some ideas.  Thanks for your time!

Re: XBOX 360 DISC READ / UNRECOGNIZED DISC / ETC ERRORS
i have had a similar issue with a gamestop game i bought a couple years ago, god of war 2. After a couple replacements, it finally worked. And to tell you the truth, i have definately see that swirl pattern on other discs, xbox 360 and otherwise. Ive got no advice, but dont feel like you are stumbling upon a rarity. Ive seen it too. I work at a locally owned video game store and i have seen a lot of games. i would chock it up to the fact that one plant doesnt make all of the discs. different factories may put out different qualities of product, and these days does anything really work the way its supposed to? sorry you guys are missing out. Best of luck

Re: XBOX 360 DISC READ / UNRECOGNIZED DISC / ETC ERRORS
I have had the SAME EXACT PROBLEM. With the excpection that i didnt notice a swirl on the game cd. The usual prismatic color pattern that emanates off the bottom of the game cd looked kind of warped. That was the only thing i noticed. Besides that ALL my other games work including newer type games like Left 4 dead or Gears of War 2. I dont know if my xbox just doesnt like that ONE in particular game or if i just got 3 bunk copies. Thats right i went back 3 times to Game Crazy. The only thing giving me hope to play this game is that all my other games work but that one.... Maybe there will be an update because obviously this isnt just a problem afflicting 1 person? PLEASE SOME ONE TELL ME IF THEY EVENTUALLY FOUND A WORKING COPY!!

    P.S.
Seriously this game looked really cool, now it just seems like a $65 paper weight of lost hope.
Lame. Im already disappointed in either Microsoft engineering or Activision software engineers.
AND! Since EVERY OTHER game i try on the xbox works! I BLAME THE SOFTWARE ENGINEERS.

SOMEONE PATCH THE D.AMN GAME PLEASE!!! I would like to make use of the money i gave away to play.

Well for now i can comment on the working ability of my Disc (because my 360 is in the shop. F-ing RRoD ) but i took a look at the disc and mine does not have the warp, or the Swirl. My disc looks pretty much Perfect. maybe just a deffictive batch? who knows.

This happened to me in September actually with Saint's Row 2. It's basically your region got a defective disc shipment so you need to go to a nearby city or wait a couple weeks until a new shipment comes in to replace it. I ended up going to another city the same day for mine.

EDIT: Dude who posted above me ^^ you're right, it is just a defective batch of probably a few thousand that got split up to different regions and spread to different stores within that region. My Prototype disc is pristine.

So far the best i can get out of customer service is "Try using a soft cloth to clean the bottom of the disc."
Im going to get my money back or a working game. Even if i do get to play this game i dont know if ide even like it now, considering such poor customer service. Like its an inconvenience to them that they sold me a bunk game. Seriously dont give up heres their contact info. HIT THEM UP! I KNOW I WILL!

That really sucks...I dunno I got the game at best buy and so far never had one issue. Sounds like a bummer since Technical Support seems so helpful... the reason they're slow though might be because of defective discs.

Its not the game or the disc ppl, its you console or your laser. ppl had the same problem when oblivion came out. your console or laser is weak
and can not handle the graphics. that is why it worked fine in the stores console. I know what i'm talking about I repair consoles for a living
its just a matter of time before you get rrod or the console simply quits reading discs. take it for what its worth... happy gaming : )  MLC, INC.

Unfortunately you would be wrong. My system is fairly new and has ZERO problems playing other games. Prototype is the problem here, not the consoles. They have built a game that gives the system errors. Activision needs to step it up and relay some messages to the people or this is going to spread like mad and everyone is going to be upset. I've already contacted several friends of mine about this problem and they are having similar issues with their games.

XBOX360365: I have been told by someone else the same thing you said, but please explain how come other games I have work just fine, including new games I have played SINCE Prototyope (like Ghostbusters and Red Faction, for instance). One person even told me something so idiotic I'm not even going to quote it here *sigh* Thanks!

It is due to the graphics as I said. your other games are not as high in graphics as prototype,  these high graphics game push the gpu to there limits, your laser or your gpu is failing.
that is why the game played fine on the store console. I had tons of repairs for this same issue when Oblivion and c.o.d. came out.

So my friend got this game when it came out and he brought it over so we could play it on my console. well it worked fine loaded and everything. i had an awsome time with it. so then i decided to go out and buy it today.

This is not a case of bad lasers it is most definitely a bad batch of discs...  i just purchased this game today and went to play it and i get a disc read error on start up. try to load it to my hdd and it stops at 30% try it on 3 of my friends  consoles and same results disc has 0 scratches btw its brand new... so i go to gamestop and tell them whats going on and he trys it on the display xbox360 same error happens..  so we then open a brand new xbox 360 console hook it up put the game in and BAM disc read error.

so the game is 100% non working. and if you look at the disc closely you can see the odd shaped warped  pattern on the data surface. this is BS!!!! im so pissed off cause i bought the game at walmart and they wont take back an opened game. My friend got lucky he has one of the rare working versions WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Activision do something!

I have this problem intermittently.  Sometimes the game loads fine and plays fine.  Sometimes i get disc read errors when i try to load it.  Sometimes it won't install to the hard drive, but it eventually did.  You might keep trying and see if you can get it to work.  I have no idea why i get the errors when i do.

There has been multiple cases of bad discs around...
I think you guys should think about this, Activision isn't incharge of printing up the discs.. they hand over the data or whatever to a company that prints it up in. so activision should think twice about hiring those guys again:)
