So is Grip still useless?

Posted by Redline Drifts on Mar 4, 2013 10:04 AM

So as most people know, the foregrip attatchment has been useless ever since the game was released and I did some testing on multiple weapons a few weeks ago to confirm this, but I was wondering with the latest patches/hotfixes, if anything has changed?

You mean it only increases centrespeed by 2%?  Yes, not entirely productive and not worth a point in a CaC slot.

I usually use them, at least for the placebo affect. I will always use them on LMGs because i'm usually shooting long range with them. SMGs don't need it, and Assault Rifles might get a slight benefit from it, but not enough to be clearly noticeable.

Only gun I've noticed it to make a difference on is the SCAR.

If you put it on the SMR with a TF on it, it makes a notable difference long range but just by itself on most guns the difference is so slight that you probably wouldn't see it.  It does help the SCAR though on those long range shots.

I was about to post the same thing. The Scar is my favorite assault rifle, because of the damage and the iron sights, and the grip is imperative.

      Scar + Grip + Suppressor + Adjustable Stock + Lightweight = Amazing.

I think they're useless except on the lmg's.

Not completely useless... only 98% useless.

It's pretty much a waste of a point if you use it. I never see a difference enough to say it's worth the point.

I like using it on the Peacekeeper, with Rapid Fire.  Perhaps it's all in my head, but that seems to help maintain control over the crazy recoil, and allows me to compete with other SMG's in close quarters.

I too find it quite useful on the peacekeeper when playing core. I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn until I unlocked that attachment. Not needed in HC modes though from what I have found.

The silencer is still better at reducing recoil than the fore grip.

It never has been useless. It does exactly what it should do.. reduced the gun sway in long range engagements. Works for me, but its not necessary on all weapons.

      Grip doesn't decrease (idle) sway.

I may have the terminology wrong.. but I notice a definite difference when using the Grip in long range engagements.

It increases centrespeed.  I know ACOG decreases idle sway by 90%.  Haven't used Grip in ages so I'm struggling to think what you might be experiencing.

            Take the MTAR for example.

Without the grip, any long range engagement I get a lot of sway or view kick or whatever you want to call it on any long range engagement. When I put the grip on I notice a considerable change in how my reticle/iron sights stay on target.

The Grip attachment helps to hold the Gun in place... Thought it was great for less accurate Assault rifles?

which assault rifle is less acurate their pretty much all laser beams, hell the M27 literally has no recoil

The best test to determine how much of a difference in recoil you will see would be to put the Grip on the Scorpion Evo with Rapid Fire and note the difference. Still goes from floor to ceiling in less than a second.

Grip increases centerspeed by 2%. This has been acknowledged by even MLG level players as "barely noticeable".

The ACOG, in addition to providing zoom also increases centerspeed by 2% (gives a free bonus grip effect).

Centerspeed, is literally, the speed at which the gun will return to center. A gun may fire its next round prior to being completely centered, thus leading to a trail away from the original gunshot. Therefore, higher rpm weapons benefit much less from the effect as less time is given to return to center.

As JSlayer says, an Evo with Rapid Fire will 'kick like a mule' even with the attachment, though it is an unfair and extreme scenario. Regardless, to get any measurable benefit it has to be on an automatic weapon with a lowered RPM and over a 'long distance' will obviously become more noticeable as any increase/decrease of accuracy is visually obvious over longer distances (farther/short distance between bullet contacts).

This is why many will report the Peacekeeper showing an advantage to the attachment, as it's a low rpm, high range SMG.

That being said, the answer is it is completely useless on most guns and fairly useless on a small number. If you 'feel' it is having an effect, then who cares, use it. However, based on testing and variables involved it is, without any real argument, a low value attachment (based on the pick 10 systerm).
