Take the franchise back to WW2 in the November 2013 release?

Posted by banni08 on Jul 3, 2012 5:09 AM

Hey, it's been a while since i posted here due to the fact i haven't had much gaming time over the past 6 months. However, i put Black Ops, MW2 and WaW in the other day and had a quick spin on all of them. I found that Black Ops has become slightly more enjoyable than when i first played it, MW2 is a break away from serious gameplay and is fun, but most importantly i really enjoyed playing WaW and i found myself to be missing the times when that game was huge in numbers, with content being released and the zombie hype train really being built up. I personally feel that with all the learning curves the 2 dev's have taken with the previous 3 titles and the one to come this November, Call of Duty set in WW2 would be the right time to do it again.

Imagine an up-to-date version of WaW, bugs fixed, more dynamic game modes, more weapons (obviously from the era), improvements on gameplay + graphics, the pro's to this would be endless. Plus i've also noticed everyone seems to be straying away from WW2 games in the past 3 years therefore i feel hitting back to this era with the new technologies that have been developed in the past 3 years would make such a title a huge success.

This is my thoughts, go ahead and discuss what you think

As much as I for one would love this, there would be those that would moan that they were just copying and pasting old games, I doubt it will ever happen, which is a shame; WaW is my all time favourite CoD game, the simplicity and gritty looks just made it seem better.

Thats Bowling though; he said anything to get people to buy IW games lol. Don't listen to a word he says, you will only get annoyed and hurt!

world war games have been done to death and some, they are very limited, modern games are the way to go as what can be done is always evolving. Were as ww games the tech is set the environment is set there is no room for change.

I have to disagree, the issue i have with them bringing out new ww games is what can they do that has not been done? what guns can they add? When i hear people wanting ww games all i hear they want simple, point and shoot, cut down no thrills just gun on gun.

Thats what made it a good game to you, as i recall alot of people abandoned waw online after a month or so and went back to cod4 and only played waw for the zombies. I also remember from about 80 random people on my list i steadily seen less and less people playing waw and going back to cod4.

There was no more teamwork in waw than previous cods,""individual skill than the assist of knowing 2-3 kills with a slaughtering machine would give you explosive weapons to destroy the enemy much easier"" thats funny because back when waw was new the forums were full of people going on about the mp40 was to powerful and gave you dog in no time.

Isn't that what shooters should be about? thats why people loved WaW. Shooters should not be about airsupport or guns that have no recoil, it should be about skill, fast paced gun on gun gameplay.

that is what i miss about WaW; the thrill of coming face to face with someone, you have a bolt action, they have a bolt action, and having a good old fashioned gun fight, thats about accuracy and not spraying 30 bullets all over the place hoping you hit.

People loved waw simply for zombies multiplayer was abandoned after the first month and everyone went back to cod4,the gun on gun is still there the cqc is still there. Really this recoil thing is irrelevant as when you think about it if the game has lots of recoil its the same for everyone same if the game has little recoil.

And regarding to "thats about accuracy and not spraying 30 bullets all over the place hoping you hit." am i the only one who remembers ppsh and double tap? Mp40 double tap? thomson and double tap? I remember the fourms nerf the mp40 and jd2020 saying its fine.

The thing is its the circle of blame, cod4 people said it was not as good as cod3 then waw came out then cod4 was the best game for multi then mw2 came out cryed mw2 sucked and went back to cod4,blackops came out people said it sucked went back to mw2/cod4 magically mw2 was fun again,mw3 came out people went back to blackops and what do you know its fun again.

I predict the same for blackops 2 some will cry its crap go back to mw3 and funnily it will be fun again as it always has been.

What made the franchise great was cod4 as that is what put cod on the map, just because i don't agree with what made cod great for you as its not what made it good for me. If waw is so good why is multiplayer desolate?? Cod4 is older but yet more people still play it....

Waw remains my favourite CoD, but WW2 has been done to death.

The Vietnam era needs more exploration.

    WW2 is overdone.
SP: Most major events are allready done
MP: Only new things they can add are maps en maybe gamemodes
Over a couple of years they can do WW2 again. With a lot of fresh blood.(players) But that can take 10 years orso.

But still enough wars to do.
Korea, Gulf, Vietnam, Bosnia, War on terror, wars in africa, war against drugs (south amerika) etc

Well it IS teh 10th year of call of duty and the 10th game in the series,so maybe they will as some kind of throwback to the originals.

I think that all of the pros you mentioned would certainly be present, but I have to agree with the others(and, unfortunately, prove your point) and say that the game would most likely be very limited when it comes to killstreaks, weapons, lethals, tacticals, etc. It could be fun, but it would take a good deal of creative genious on the devs parts.

When they do make a next ww2 cod game, it should move away to the overused theaters of Stalingrad and Normandy. Instead they should focus on the less well known parts such as the British in Burma and India, Australians in North Africa, Middle East and Papua New Guinea, Nationalist Chinese the Sino-Japanese War, Soviets in Leningrad (not Stalingrad) and the Prague Offensive, US soldiers in Tusnia and Italy. Another thing I think the next ww2 cod game should let you play for the first time as a German soldier during the Blitzkrieg of France and the Low Countries.

The whole argument WWII has been done to death can also be said about Modern Warfare. I personally would like to see a switch back to WWII. I however could see going back and doing other wars. Nobody ever brings up WWI, their are several places to go, but for some reason the majority of players only want this modern/ future nonsense

There is not going to be much on WW1 unless it dose not focus on the Western Front as Trench Warfare during ww1 would not make very good gameplay as you be forced to make frontal assault on enemy defense and get cut down by machine gun fire, with everything you have done was in vain. I would like to see the charge of the Australian 4th Light Horse Brigade at the Battle of Beersheba, which was done by Mounted Infantry

i dont think you give the creators enough credit. I think that with their creativity that they could get it done. In fact i seem to remember doing some trench fighting in COD the big red one that wasnt terrible.

i wont argue that it would need more than just charging at an enemy trench the whole time.

I agree with Fireman ... you guys are thinking inside a box that most likely will be shattered with the new consoles.

Granted, the hardware in consoles are outdated almost as soon as they hit the shelves, the fact of the matter is that the next gen will have far more computing power than the current consoles. I read an article the other day that FPS producers are looking at greater map dynamics. One thing I do like about BF3 over COD is the ability to level buildings, for the most part. Would be nice to see the landscape change during the match, as well.

Imagine a predator leaving a twenty foot wide, five foot deep crater where a minute ago there was just flat ground.

That can change the dynamics of a match in a big way.

That would make taking on WW1 and/or WW2 battles a whole new experience. Furthermore I can also see greater interaction with vehicles. Don't get me wrong, I hope they don't ... but who knows?

The point is that most of the posts here are assuming the new consoles will not bring new features to the games and such a view is highly unlikely.

I think that treyarch should do a "what if" game where the british win WW2 and something cool happens. Like rebellion of the british people. Taking place in modern times. But with different stuff because the world would be so different.

My idea to fit some older wars in the mix is to have the main character on his death bed talking to his son and telling him the family history which involves relatives in all different wars. This would keep you from having to make a whole game on trench warfare but still allow you to do a little of it.

I honestly think ww2 would be great today. There is so much of the war they havent covered for example... battle of the bulge? Hitlers bunker? The nukes on japan?  pearl harbor? Anyways with the abilities thay we have today they can make one hell of a game. Ww2 is one of the best if not the best war periods ever. Spice up the graphics, landscape changes as a bomb or artillery goes off would be awesome. Bf3's ability to destroy a building or cover was amazing to the gameplay experience.  So much can be done to make a great game and hopefully bring some life to the series.

I loved WaW and I hope they ho back to WW2 someday. Now imagine what they could do. Selectable streaks (scorestreaks for that matter), new perks, new, more favorable guns possibly, pIck 10 create-a-class, an updated (if not new) engine. Like some others have said, imagine WaS debugged, fixed, updated. It could do wonders for the franchise. Whether or not there should be vehicles, I'm not sure, but I'm sure it'd be great.
