Slave to the ARs

So, I had a realization last night as I was playing.

 

I am a slave to the Assault Rifles.

 

Now, don't get me wrong,  I like the other weapons. I have some success with them... but I just don't seem to enjoy them nearly as much.

 

Never been a sniper. I don't have the patience for it. I don't like the scope. I don't mind them with the ACOG, but its just not my playstyle. Plus they smell funny.

 

Shotguns and I haven't seen eye to eye since COD4(Yeah I am still bitter at that guy with the Golden Shotty that killed me like 20 times in one match), but I just don't enjoy running around with them all that much. It is quite satisfying seeing the results of a good shot, but never been to my taste.

 

LMGs I get along with pretty well. Love whipping out my L86 and laying down some fire. But the slow movement speed makes me feel like I just OD'd on Ambien.

 

SMGs, everyone's favorite whipping boy in this game,  just don't do it for me. I feel like I have to run a lot more carelessly when using these, and in Hardcore Modes they are hit marker machines and rather inconsistent. I prefer aiming over spraying, so they are not my friend.

 

Assault Rifles just work for me. I like to keep enemies at range, but enjoy the ability to move around the map. I like that I can win CQB battles while still being able to take out hostiles at a distance. For whatever reason, I just simply play better with the ARs, and quite frankly just enjoy the experience more.

 

So what do you think. Am I limiting myself by mostly using Assault Rifles? Is it OK to specialize in one class that you are comfortable with, or does it limit you as a player doing so?

 

Does anyone else find themselves in this situation? Anyone out there who sticks primarily to one class of weapon? Anyone out there who used to do so but has become more diverse? Would be interested to hear your thoughts.

    Hi nicedrewishfela, I used to be like you thinking I should just use AR's, but lately I've been using other guns to get a feel for them. Like I saw in another post, if you do well with one gun or type of gun then the others then just use it  .

      i feel you OP i am the same way, i love my AR, but i love sitting back and picking some heads off with the sniper, LMG i am the same i love tearing through people, but the slow movement gets me after awhile, SMG and shotguns are just not for me i am not a run and gun and spray person.

       

      as u stated i like to keep my enemies afar and still win the CQB and move around the map at good speed.

       

       

      nothing to do with the post, but i miss specialist from MW3, it was best addition ever added to a CoD in my opinion, and the ability to set certain KS per CaC.  but since they do not have anything like MOAB or nukes in this title specialist wouldnt be as fun, i think

        By the end of MW3s life cycle, all of my best classes were Specialist. I loved it. No scorestreak has EVER made me feel more accomplished than earning that Specialist Bonus.

         

        I miss that.

      I do try to use the other weapons as much as possible. As for the ARs I don't typically stick to just one, I like to use them all and make a class for each. I try to diversify, but I always have more fun with the ARs.

    I normally have at least 1 gun from each gun class in a CaC slot, but right now, the PeaceKeeper slid into the AR slot. I dont know if thats going to be permanent or not. The ARs in this game, I don't really use them outside of the NT24/7 playlist. My top 5 guns are misleading because the AN,SMR, and SCAR are all up there, but I dont really use them in HCKC, I guess because I see them as cheap and easy to use, and I get almost no confirms using the SMR. My top guns are really the MSMC and Kap-40s.  I see no reason to ever use a Type 25/MTAR/M27 again now that the Peacekeeper is here, it seems like that gun is made for your style of play as well.

      My jury is still out on the Peacekeeper. I have tried to use it more like an AR than I would an SMG, and have had decent results, but it still tends to be inconsistent. It definitely is a fun weapon to use, but time will tell if it sticks around in my CaC.

    I like the AR's as well. The Type 25 is my most used with over 1,000 kills more than my next weapon in line. (which I think is the an-94). In fact 4 of the top 5 (if not all 5 by now) are all AR's. The SMG's are a bit hard to use (for me anyway) for anything other than face to face. The AR's have good mobility while being able to shoot from range and they are still fairly useful up close. I don't play HC so my experience with all the weapons are from a core standpoint.

      It took a while for me to start enjoying the Type 25. When I first starting using it I got a ton of hitmarkers. I played around with the setup and found that the Grip/FMJ combo made it effective for me.

       

      I think that is the beauty of the CaC in this game. There are no OP setups, its all about finding the right combination for you.

       

      An-94 is beastly. It's become one of my go-to weapons for sure. Personally, I think the M27 is the best weapon in the game at this point. Been crushing it with my grip and silencer, and of course my sparkly diamond camo lol.

    well thats good I try to keep the mtar in my top 5 since the other 3 are smgs and the crossbow.

    I find myself in an opposite situation to you. I have always been an AR guy but on this COD, I'm mostly a run and gunning SMG player. I play nothing but Core TDM and ARs just don't cut it for me. I have to be mobile, fast, and agile. I tried running around with an AR but I run solo and a lot of times, I need to lift my team to victory. ARs just don't produce the same results.

     

    I am a newbie sniper and I never sniped before. I tried on this COD and it's a good challenge for me. I can say I'm now a decent DSR sniper with over 1,500 kills and a 1.5 KD using it. Give it a try and it may give you some surprising results. I think the pace of HC TDM suits it well.

     

    In my opinion, ARs are best in HC but if you venture into Core, you'll find the SMGs to perform better. It's all because of the game mode you're playing.

      Definitely.

       

      I think that is what really steered me towards HC in MW2. I found myself having to use the UMP or SCAR every match in core, HC allowed me to spread my wings a bit more.

       

      I like that every weapon has a chance in HC.

        I love the AK as well but I never tried its version (AN94) on this COD. I used to play a slower pace and build up my killstreaks but on this game, the high scorestreaks are difficult to get in a consistent basis playing Core TDM. I have to be super aggressive on this game to dominate. I just can't sit back a bit, build up my killstereaks and end up on top of the board like I used to.

    Sounds like the peacekeeper would be right up your alley. I've always been more of an AR guy too. Sure I would stray from time to time, fell in love with the MP5 in the first BO, I think everyone loved the UMP and MP40 unless they were used against you. I would use a sprinkle of LMGs and snipers from time to time maybe even a dash of shotties. I always returned to ARs though.

     

    I think the only way using a certain class can limit you as a player is the fact it can limit your options in game. Sometimes you have to change your style of play, maybe a teammate is having an off night or the other team is playing a certain way.

      I think that this game has really forced me to develop a ton of different strategies, map by map. My friends will tell you I am all about the team, will do whatever we need for the team to succeed (I am always taking out air support, EMPing enemy equipment, watching an area that needs to be watched, and communicating). I also know when something isn't working and when to switch it up. Started a match the other day 1-8, just couldn't get anything started off the top and was spawn killed a few times. Changed my class, changed my play style and ended the match positive.

       

      The Peacekeeper still hasn't completely sold me. I am using it quite a bit, to mixed results. But it definitely suits me better than the other SMGs.

    Yep AR slave here, just can't help myself ever since MW1. Have branched out now to SMG's and Shotty's but always back to the good old AR's.

    after going for the 2nd max prestige and gold in smg, lmg, and shotties i would recommend doing those challenges. it will take you far away from your confort zone. in the process you will find some serious strenghts and fun in all these weapons. going for 2nd max prestige ensures you learn the weapon in and out. I won't lie sometimes it's a hard grind to learn how to make some weapons work for you, i.e. an lmg on highjacked, but once you get it down you'll have a blast playing with classes you looked down on before. got 6 gold ARs now and i'm on the SMR now. by far my favorite AR so far with the stopping power this thing has.

    This is the kind of post I miss seeing! The kind where everyone that has a reply has some kind of constructive criticism or is talking about a certain thing they love! Instead of the usual... "What do you think is wrong", "Why would you pay money for a game you like a lot?" lol Idk thank you guys. As far as the post. I love AR's also. I consider myself somewhat of a slave to them. Love the AN-94 and M27. They are my favorite. jFAL was pretty dang sick before patch too. However, after getting gold with any one weapon I have to move on to the next one. Just finished the MTAR and am on to the SCAR. Only a couple more to go before diamond including the SMR. Have 2 gold snipers, both 50 cals. Love them too, but don't quickscope. On hijacked I roll a shotty crossbow tomahawk class. That one is pretty fun lol.

      Agreed, the negativity gets to me as well.

       

      I play to have fun. I come on here to discuss the game. I know it has flaws, I don't waste my time dwelling on them.

       

      I am definitely going to try to get back on track with completing some of the other weapon challenges, its more fun on this game than it has been in the past.

    I'm a slave to ARs as well. I will try once in a while to use different types of weapons but the balance of the AR always brings me back. I feel the AR class in BO2 is balanced that you don't really have to use the other classes.

     

    My favorite ARsare the M27 and the M8A1.You can't go wrong with any of the ARs IMO. I'm also undecided when it comes to the PK. I like the range and the mobility of the gun so far but I wish it packed just a little more punch.

    Slave? No.  But I did marry my M27 and named Iris.  I used to cheat on her with my FAL named Dawn but now that my SWAT556 named Monica got a makeover, she gets more attention now.

        Too late.  Got all the ladies diamonds already coz I'm a baller like that.  However, this Peacekeeper named Sandy, who is an SMG just showed up....I think me and her might get close but I have a feeling once I get her diamonds she'll disappear from my CaC.

    Not a damned thing wrong with it. In fact, I couldn't care what weapon anyone uses; the only overpowered thing in this game is the lag.

    Use whatever you want. I've been caning the ARs recently as I'm going for diamonds (finally finished off the Fal last night). I've gotta say they aren't half as toothless as they first appeared to be. The M27 w/ACOG is an absolute beast, got me a VTOL last night
