Need help for Belkin router settings which is best for playing black ops 2 online

Posted by Syndicatekiller on Jan 28, 2013 4:49 AM

I just purchased a new Belkin n600 wireless dual and router,so as you know dual band has two frequencies-2.4ghz and 5ghz,in which should I play?,second question is which wireless mode should I play in,802.11g or 802.11n or 802.11a or 802.11b,third question Is the setting for bandwidth, which one is better-20mhz or 20/40 mhz,and the last is should I enable Qos or Disable it,I want the configuration which is best for playing black ops 2 online.

If at all possible, don't play over wireless, setup a wired connection.

Whether you need QOS will really depend on what else your internet connection is being used for. If you have other people using the internet while your gaming (espeically streaming video), QOS might help a little, but I don't find it as useful as a bandwidth limiter. However, most routers don't come with this ability, you would need a custom firmware such as Tomato or DD-WRT (if they are available for you router).

    So for best connection:

    Wired Connection

Limit other connection uses while gameing (don't download torrents or stream videos)

    Forward the necessary ports

5ghz is only supported by limited things - I am not sure the X360 supports 5g over wireless?

802.11n will give you fast speeds, although that doesn't make a difference for BLOPS2 or XBL as it only uses a couple of megs up and down.

Set it to 802.11a and 5ghz if you want the most stable wireless connection.

QoS only kicks in when you have saturated your bandwidth.  If you dont have a ton of traffic you dont need it.

Just make sure the correct ports are open and there isn't much else you can do.

      What?

Wired won't make a difference for your wireless modes or channels

If you are wired it doesnt matter.  None of the stuff under the wireless section will apply.  I'm not familiar with belkin routers, but none of the items you listed have anything to do with a wired connection except QoS.

You can try to take your router out of the equation all together and plug the xbox directly into your modem and you will find that you will still get bad games.

There are a lot of us that have been trying to find a fix for this since MW3 was released.  There isn't really anything that will fix it.  You can try to optimize your connection, but the fix will have to come from 3arc.

There are methods that are against the TOS to attempt to game the lag compensation but even if you could get it to work, you would be in the same boat again at the first migration.

MW3 was more or less fixed one or two months before BO2 came out, so it's possible.

Actually, since BO1. It was bad too, but not near as bad as MW3 and not even close to as bad as this game.

Yeah it started with BO1, but I was just moving to consoles from the PC at that point and just thought I was bad with a controller.

man I've heard a lot of good things about the dlink and that's got to be the only router that has gaming take priority right?  I've been looking around for a new router after buying an xbox a couple weeks ago and i found this site http://www.squidoo.com/wireless-gaming-router and I'm considering the net gear ac 1780 (I think tht's what it is) but I've heard their tech support sucks and I've had a belkin so I know I'm not getting another one of those.  Anyways any suggestions or advice besides get the dlink would be great?  Thanks.

I had a Belkin router, I don't know what kind but I couldn't stay on live for more than a few minutes and when I did get into an online game it lagged so bad that it wasn't worth playing. I've got a new router now and it's pretty great for the most part. Black Ops 2 lags a little bit here and there but I thinks that more of an issue with the game and not my router.

Belkin routers have always dropped connection and then would burn up after awhile for me. I decided to go with the best at the time and upgraded my modem to a docsis 3.0 ( Big difference over 2.0 ) and my router to a cisco e4200. I have very little to no lag issues other then core ground war or ppl lag switching. There are camera issues or bending bullets but I don't confuse that with lag. If the game is smooth and ppl aren't jerking then I am all good.

Ussualy everything is smooth for me, that's why I said that I think that's it's more of a problem with the game. But the router I have now was designed for online gaming.
