Call of Duty suppressers

Posted by slippery_picnic on Jul 20, 2012 2:54 PM

I think that myself and most other call of duty players will agree with me that the suppressers make snipers extremely weak.  I prefer to use bolt action snipers and i can't stand when my bullets dont seem to kill the player in one shot because of the silencer.  Let me know if you guys feel the same!

I thought they were fine on HC in Black Ops, I don't play Core.

Can you elaborate on your post? Did you want something to change, do you want to use suppressors.. what are you looking for?

        Ok, thanks for elaborating.

I pay HC, so it wasn't as much of an issue.

What I liked about Black Ops is the guns worked like they were supposed to. An SMG worked best from close range and was tough to get long range kills from. Assault Rifles were better at range and still effective at CQB. Snipers were best from range.

I know its frustrating getting hit markers, but when they give you the advantage of silent shot, not showing up on the map, etc. They have to balance that by giving the person you are shooting a chance to shoot back. Its tough for them, because they have to figure out where the shot came from. Usually you should be able to get the kill shot off before they find you. You are obviously at a disadvantage if they already know where you are, but then that defeated the purpose of the silencer in the first place.

That being said, it needs to be fair to the suppressor user as well. It seems now that suppressor or not people seem to find you quickly. It should require the user to have such a significant disadvantage that they are constantly losing gun battles. For Snipers, I think anything in the chest or head should be a 1hK, unless you are at a significant distance with the suppressor on. It will slow the high powered round enough where it may not do as much damage. For other guns, it should maybe take a shot or two more at range, but there shouldn't be any difference in CQB.

MW3 hardcore felt like core with the way suppressors work. I get more hit markers in MW3 HC when using a silencer than I ever did in BlOps, and thats tremendously frustrating. I hope they fix this in BlOps II.

TRansitioning from Battlefield 3 back to blops made me realize how games should be. I like cod but when i try and snipe, and someone at long range can get me with an smg... goddamn could they atleast have a little recoil?

Agreed. You shouldn't be able to run at me with a sniper and beat my SMG and I shouldn't be able to pick you off with my SMG from across the map.

BF3 was fun, but in spite of the issues CoD is still more fun to me. MW3 is really, REALLY testing that however.

Supressors reduce range, which from what I understand means they the damage drops off over distance much quicker. However even within 10ft I've noticed a dramatic increase in hitmarkers that doesn't seem realistic or fair

Don't think supresssors reduce range on sniper rifles. Think they remove the damage multiplier for the lower abdomen, and in some cases (in BO) the chest.

I don't like it either, but think it's balanced.

You think snipers have issues? SMG range has a dramatic range decrease due to suppressors as well. I've kind of gotten used to it now although on Black Ops I rarely use suppressors due to the amount that's dropped (not quite so bad in MW3 due to bullet damage anyway). Plus I like other attachments in Black Ops

A bolt-action sniper should be a 1SK to head, neck, chest, and abdomen no matter if its silenced or not. The bullets are not being changed. You are still firing a rather large round into someomes body. There would be a sizable hole. Agree with OP.

A Suppressor on some weapons does change the bullet that is chambered, not that it matters, just abit of knowledge (:

Smgs aren't supposed to kill people across map with silencer or not.

I was thinking the same thing. I felt that Black Ops did a good job differentiating between the gun classes.  SMGs were highly effective at close range but lost effectiveness at range. ARs were good at both range and CQB, Shotguns were a CQB weapon, and Snipers, as they should be, were most effective from Medium to Long Range and pretty ineffective in CQB.

Take MW3, however. If I want to I can nail you from across the map with an SMG equipped with Range and a Silencer just as effectively if not more so than with a Sniper Rifle. Some guns, like the MP7 or ACR, are good from any range, no matter what. Snipers are glorified shotguns in CQB.

Would like to see that differentiation between weapon classes again in BlOps II

Completely disagree. Why? Because Assault rifles are the god class in cod, and in infinity wards games the other guns are beefed up to try & match the ARs. SMGs dominate close range but take significantly more bullets at range, snipers get quickscoping, shotguns have better range than in blops, LMGs are basically crappy Assualt rifles (Pros: better penetration & clip size. Cons: slow movement, reload time & ADS time) and for this are a rare sight, but are still just about usable.

In Blops the gap between ARs and the other classes is even more evident.

I'll pull a pathetic realism argument here- the MP5s effective range is 200m, which is just over 2 football fields in length. The longest sightlines in all cod maps is usually about that range, to balance it out for gameplay they simply make it take about 6-10 bullets to kill a man at range which is fair enough. Assualt rifles & LMGs is half that amount.

@OP: Silencer damage reduction is fine for three reasons.

1, when using a silencer you do not appear on the map (Obviously)

          2. With a bolt action you would be very hard to hear/notice tracers since you only fire 1 shot at a time, combine this with a good camoflauge spot & it would be overpowered if you could 1 shot everybody.

          3. Imagine all the cry babies about silenced quickscopers. (although quickscoping is currently balanced, the cry babies would probably be justified if silenced 1SK quickscoping existed)

When I want to stealth snipe I use semi-automatics since it usually takes two shots to kill anyway, yet I am still slightly noticable from the spraying sound & spray of tracer rounds across the map, a fair trade. Also to the person complaining about silenced snipers at close range- it is also fair being weaker because a silent quickscoper would probabably be overpowered. That is another thing quickscopers have at a disadvantage- you cannot put a silencer on. It is balanced how it is, if you want a silencer on your snipe use a semi-automatic. The RSASS, M21 & WA2000 were great with a silencer, but 2-3 shot kills unless headshot, which is balanced.

TL;DR: Silenced snipers are balanced how they are, except for in blops- silenced PSG1 took 2 shots to the head to kill lol.

There is a reason Assault Rifles are the weapon of choice for tactical units around the world. They are versatile, can be used from both long and short range. Thus, its no surprise they are preferred by many users in the CoD Series.

Bolt-action and 50cal snipers in MW3 can OHK to the head, neck and chest with silencers it didn't make them anymore OP than they already was.

Do what I do and aim for the head if you want stealth.

I used silencers on the snipers in MW3 and they worked very well IMO. The high powered ones can kill in one shot even without a headshot provided you get a good shot in.

Suppressors should be less powerful, of course!

And this is coming from someone who always uses a suppressor!

Because it's unfair to be a silence killer, when you're getting shot you have at least a chance to response when there is a red dot on your map.. but if there is no red dot on your map it makes it harder for you to find out where you're getting shot from.

It takes longer to find out, therefore it should take the shooter longer to kill you!
