EMP's way too overpowered plus the sound causes prolonged ringing in my ears.

Posted by Suicidewafflez on Jan 21, 2013 4:27 AM

I just played a game on Nuketown against a whole team that spammed EMP's the entire game. Afterwards, my ears were literally ringing after having to hear that horrible buzzing sound the entire game. Now I feel sick to my stomach as well. Suffice to say, this needs to be changed IMMEDIATELY or there will be some real implications for Treyarch on this matter. The seizure-friendly flash it makes needs to be changed as well. Compared to the concussion or flash grenade, the flash is worse for the EMP.

It is overpowered because:

1. The radius is too far.

2. The effect lasts too long.

Complaining about a stomach ache and ringing ears will not "implicate" anything on the company.  If you are sensitive to in-game effects, then you need to stop playing the game.  It's a war game, so expect some explosions, sounds, visual effects, etc.  The flashbangs in the game are ridiculous as ****.  The amount of time the effects last for are extremely ridiculous.  I counted out the time it took me to be able to 'move' in a normal manner after being directly flash banged and it was 32 seconds.  That is about 1/20th overall game-time (10 min. match and if the match goes all the way to time limit) and extremely stupid.

hey, i'm all in for a good arguement but it sounds like you're pissed you couldn't get you equipment kills. i spammed the crap outta a guy last night cause he dropped the motherlode of claymores everywhere he went. i rarely attacked him head on. just walked by saw the red box and blew up his little toy. as for the uav thing, nothing wrong with keeping you on your toes. i try not to chase little red dots anyway. most importantly those emp grenades are a great way to spam for points. you get assists form players stunned by the effects, you get points from equipment destroyed and most of all you force the enemy to play your way. they are forced to result to a gun on gun fight instead of a cheap kill.

I run EMP's on the majority of my classes. Great for equipment, assist, etc. as mentioned. I also rarely get "spammed" but then again I am always on the move. If I had to guess you like to setup shop and were probably getting frustrated that your playstyle was getting countered.

    Effectively too from the gist...

Hardly ever see the EMPs... so they are just about fine power and length wise. Have to be worth using.

As for the sound, I agree. Its like 100 cats being tortured.

I love EMPs, they finally made them worth using in COD. The reasons you explained it being overpower are the improvements the EMPs needed an I don't think it's overpowered.

Wow OP you never thought to turn the volume down? EMPs are great, finally worth using. I don't neccessarily agree with getting 50 points for an EMP assist especially since the effect wears off, but as far as their functionality, they don't need a nerf.

EMPs are omnidirectional, meaning that they can go through cover. That is a bit annoying if you're running sentries and traps. Though I have no problem with EMPs, I suppose a reasonable nerf is only allowing one emp to be equipped or let it stun and weaken sentries and guardians, rather destroying them outright. The sound is a bit annoying but you can change the mix in options.

both of these streaks lasts about 5 seconds against an LMG with FMJ (even though a wall) I don't think nurfing EMPs will change players wrecking those streaks without risk.

i actually think one emp grenade shouldnt be able to take out a turret or guardian.

I agree with that 100%, but dang it sure it easy to destroy them and get xp.

I usually dont use the gaurdian or sentry gun for this reason though since it seems like a waste of a scorestreak to get taken away so fast.

They are both electronic if an emp grenade doesn't destroy them the first one thrown then that is unrealistic and total bs learn to adapt.

"Realism" should come second to "Fairness". How fair is it that I can easily take out an AGR with one C4, when the AGR was a very big reward and my C4 was free?

Anyways, a game is supposed to be fair. Maybe an EMP should destroy anything near it, but the blast radius doesn't even require the user to aim, which is pretty ridiculous.

No it's not "overpowered" you are just some camper who thinks kills should be handed to you the EMP and EMP Grenade are NOT "overpowered" it's called learn to adapt that's why Hard Wired was put into the game. If you don't know how to adapt sell your game cause I am sick of complainers like you ruining games because you aren't being catered to and having kills handed to you.

Lmao saying something is "overpowered" makes you look like you can't adapt I am just saying keep things balanced what you complainers keep saying is I died by it or it hindered me so it's "overpowered". You see MW3 was ruined by garbage complainers everything that could kill garbage campers was nerfed to almost useless and everything that helped garbage campers was buffed to make them invincible again I am not talking about campers in general just the garbage ones who come on these forums saying everything they don't use is "overpowered".  So again learn to adapt or sell the game if you keep getting hit by them start using Hard Wired instead of making the EMP grenade useless yet again.

They actually are slightly over powered.  People are catching on.  With more people making a backup class with emps, the future for defensive equipment will be obsolete.    Simple as that.  Why would anyone waste their streaks on that when all someone has to do is switch classes when they die and throw a emp grenade that didn't require a streak.

Um learn to adapt and get out of your corner with shock charges and bouncing betties and claymores. There is a new camper tactic that I noticed I think it's funny C4 combined with Shock Charges for the skillful campers. If you don't wanna have to be alert or have good reflexes to camp then sell your game or you can do something simple and learn to adapt. Enough with the complaining.

The only thing I don't like about it is how long the effects last, but there is a counter to it. Throw it on and see how it goes. As far as the ringing in your ears...turn down the volume.

If the tables were turned and YOU littered the map with EMP grenades you might be saying that they are underpowered and should have a greater blast radius, etc....Almost everything in the game has a counter, whether it be to lessen the effects of something or to nullify it completely. If you are getting hammered by something you don't care for and choose not to use the counter for that, then that is your problem.

To the OP- there is the warning in every game including this one that describe your issue. It is the warning do photosensitive seizures, symptoms can include bases and ringing in the ears. Teens and adolescents are more prone to it and fatigue can be a factor too. If you really had these problems I suggest you stop playing the game and see your doctor.

    Simple solution

Hard Wired appears as a perk in the Perk 2 slot in Call of Duty: Black Ops II multiplayer, available at level 26. Similar to AssassinPro in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, it renders the player immune to enemy Counter-UAVs and any EMP effects.

I've never known anyone complain about the noise from an EMP, maybe it's your ears that are a little sensitive to that frequency and you need a headset that can be adjusted or made to work for you.

I think they work just fine in every way.

EMP grenades are pretty gay, but only really bother me when I use a target finder... Which is when I run the hard wired perk... Another thing that really is extremely annoying is when you do run scorestreaks like guardian and sentry gun to try and get the banners and run into games where people use EMP grenades, it basically makes your scorestreaks pointless for an entire round... Which in a sense is kinda OP, having a single tactical that can keep someone from ever using their scorestreaks if you use it right?  On another note, I don't ever get bothered by the emp grenades and they are also my 3rd most used tactical, just today I was getting annoyed because I couldn't use a single guardian or sentry gun without it being instantly destroyed... Could have run other killstreaks that would have actually done something useful... Which is what I ended up doing, gave up on the guardian and sentry so quick... And not to mention the most pointless killstreak in the game which is the dragonfire... Gets shot down so fast, and takes so many bullets to kill someone...

Also the radius IS too large, I find myself getting spammed from across the map by them A LOT more than actually seeing someone tactically using it... But at that point i just whip them out myself and do the same thing to the damn bastard doing it to me...

I feel like concussion, flashbang, and EMP grenades are all a bit too long. Specifically with the EMP, either it should have radius reduced with the same duration or the duration reduced with the same radius, but not both.

Right now the EMP is already great at destroying equipment, but it takes away your HUD for what seems like a very long time, even when it detonates at the edge of its effective radius.
