MW4 vs RESPAWN'S upcoming first person shooter. What will you buy next year?

Posted by M_Deamon on Dec 28, 2012 5:45 AM

3 weeks after I sold B02 I still keep an eye on this forum waiting for news on that "golden patch" that will fix most of the problems, at least the lag and hit detection,That is all I ask, and I would buy it again, good game but I was having to much frustration , and after reading about all the new glitches, I think I did the right thing. I must say I do miss the good old COD days.

I did some research, and found out that Respawn is making a new FPS, the good think about this is that the guys at respawn are the same guys that created COD 4 & MW2 . They left Infinity Ward after a legal dispute and made their own company (RESPAWN). They are working with EA on this new game . This guys left Infinity Ward soon after MW2 was released and I think that was part of the problem on the lack of support the game had, Infinity never fixed the commando launch or noobtubes (just to name a couple) but I think MW2 was a very solid game regarding hit detection and lag. then MW3 was a mess too, because the real master-minds  where no longer developing the game.  What I understand is that EA basically gave this guys (former IW employees) the keys of the building and told them "do what ever you guys want but make it happen ". I hope they come out with a solid new game with new things that challenge the good players and make the bad players work their way up. No more spray and pray for a change...  This might be old news for many of you, I honestly do not know much about it , If anyone can give me some more info I will appreciate it.  Are you guys going to stick with COD?  or do you think this game's days are over?? Happy new year for all of you.

(I am using a cellphone sorry for spelling)

Apparently Respawns game is a Sci-Fi shooter, if both games are good I'll buy both, but the prospect of next-gen consoles might affect any future decisions. Personally I loved MW3, along with all IW games.

The WOW factor of Call of Duty 4 may never happen again in the COD franchise.

Ironically it could be the original founders of COD that end it?

I wasn't wowed by MW, it was a great game and a lot of fun though. I think what made MW so awesome was it's longevity. Before that I thought Halo was awesome and played it a lot, but since MW was more realistic it appealed to me more. Ever since I played that game

Has it actually been confirmed that Respawns game is out next year, I would of thought they would take on Treyarch as they pretty much despised them when they where at IW

Nothing has been confirmed, Respawn are definitely working on it, but no one is sure about when or which platforms (next gen etc)

Respawn are very tight lipped on the subject. (twitter and web)

Dude you can continue posting here, but having sold the game and simply waiting for a "golden patch" is not going to happen.

This statement I miss the good ol' days sounds like my grandfather whom speaks of the 1950's like it was a golden era! You sold the game, that was the best thing you could do to avoid feeling frustration.

In regards to Respawn vs MW4 to soon to speak about but I will for one purchase respawns game.

What a useless post that was. Are you just trying to get your post count up or something? This post has as much going for it as yours and this is poor, almost troll like, wouldn't you agree?

After MW3 and BO2 failures I'm done with COD games.

There's no possible improvement you can expect in the next title.

Simply, the developers are unable to fix lag issues blaming p2p limitations at the same time refusing dedicated servers. So, why should I buy the same crap in different wrapping?

Regarding "Respawn"...hmmm, these are mostly the old MW2 developers (West&Zampella team).

As we all know MW2 was almost lag free game and many contribute it to its makers.

However, at the same time hacking there were insane there, it has never been fixed.

I'm still willing to take my chance on something new (Respawn), being tired with attitude of

IW / Activision /Sladgehammer and Treyarch

i disagree.  mw4 will be next gen.

when people see mw4 with crysis 3 type graphics,    30+ online multiplayer,    open maps instead of "hallway"  maps being used now to maximize graphics,  destrucible enviroments that leave giant craters when using the ac-130 etc.  they'll get the same excitement as mw.

night maps with top end lighting and visuals,   muliple player controlled killstreaks up at the same time could be possible,   basically it'll shock people how good it will be.

but that depends on the developers,  not their skill,  but their decisions.    they basically killed black ops with this game.

with over thinking and the esport nonsense.     all the maps in this game are 3 corriders.

a middle one,  with one on the left and one on the right.     you spawn,  pick one and hope the enemy picked the same one and wait to run into them.

its extremely boring and the "thrill of the hunt" is basically gone.

if they aim for big asymetrical maps with intersecting "battle zones" for different playstyles and let the players choose which zone to venture in, it wouldn't get stale very fast.

for example a sniper zone could be a high hill over looking most of the map, not just one sight line, but it would be on the outskirts of the map and any kills would be extreme long shots.

it would set up fun countersniper battles with other snipers,   while everybody else is battling down below.

every map can't be urban warfare.  it's a video game i.e. you can do what every your imagination comes up with.    more jungle maps,    an arctic pine forest map would be good,  not 14 maps touring ghettoes around the world.     treyarch made one bad decision after another,   the blames falls solely on the gigantic ego of the main developer.

cod is a war game.   that's the balance they should be going for.

I actually think Call of Duty should shy away from such powerful Streaks. I think it takes the fun out of the game when you're focusing on avoiding streaks while trying to earn your own. Where's the gun on gun battles? Rarely do I play a match that's won with a gun and not by a team who puts a ton of crap in the sky that the other teams has to constantly work on taking down

I agree.. that's why I was so disappointed that there was no Barebones mode.  If I can get 10 kills in a row then I don't need you to give me some sort of bonus that gives me free kills that I don't earn.  I think it would have been better to just have non-lethal support scorestreaks and a specialist option like MW3, so yeah you get a bonus that helps you out, but you still have to earn all of your kills.

Definetly Respawn's game. There is no way I would purache another game in Modern Warfare series.

Sledge Hammer can't develop good original game and Activision wants them to push these games out too fast and the result is medicore FPS that has few tweaks from previous one but still a lot of same/new problems.

simple... I made up my mind about the next IW game, regardless of anything else happening.

    Not buying it :

    - on release... going to wait and see

    - if they still have death streaks

    - it kill streaks still stack (without some sort of minimized weight - 3ARC ftw in my opinion)

    - if there is over the top quickscoping (IW makes it too easy in comparison)

    and finally

    - if I am not bored of BO2 (I played BO1 alongside with MW3 here and there...)

If any of the above holds true... sticking with what I have... but that is just me (not saying it is right or wrong)

It's quite possible that MW4 could be a next-gen release.  There is strong speculation that Microsoft will reveal its Xbox 360 successor at E3 next year and have it released in time for Holiday 2013.  Microsoft would definitely need to have some sort of big IP to go with the launch of a new console.  If a new xbox were to launch around November 2013 then that would coincide nicely with the usual CoD release window.  A next gen CoD would certainly be a big selling point for MS.

Considering the dearth of information available on Respawn's new sci-fi FPS I would be very surprised to see it released at any stage in 2013, though it's not outside the realms of possibility.  It would very much depend on the nature of the game and how well it was received whether I would buy it or not.

I probably will get MW4 - if I don't buy it for myself then I know that a family member will undoubtedly buy it for me as a birthday or christmas present.

No question in my mind, I am buying Respawns game.  If it is as good as I expect then I'm done with CoD.  There are opportunties for the developers in CoD to win me back, but unfortunately they are too arrogant to listen and see it.  The future of CoD lies with teenage boys who think it's cool to cheat, hack, glitch and exploit.  They're welcome to it.

Neither because COD 4, MW2, and MW3 were just bad unbalanced messes of games.

I'm unsure...It's too far away to make a confirmed decision...

I've enjoyed the majority of COD titles I've played....but I feel COD needs a decent competitor and hopefully this Respawn project will bring this much needed competition.

    We'll wait and see.

I will most probably go with Respawn's game. I like many others have grown tired of Activision, Treyarch, Sledgehammer, and Infinity Ward. The last three installments have been failures even though idiots like myself still donate hard earned money to such. If it wasn't for zombies I would have returned this game by now.

Probably both, but don't get your hopes up re the next gen xbox - it's not due until 2016 at the earliest.

I wouldn't buy a new console on the release day [unless it was required for a particular game] given that the new console will have bugs that need to be ironed out.

That's why I'm skeptical. I'm in the same boat as you regarding a game exclusive to it. I will definitely be intrigued into what the CoDfathers are releasing. I'm sure they'll be on dedis. Which will possibly be a plus.

MW, MW2, and MW3 were all great but the last two need work.  I won't guarenty it but I will stay with MW4 unless youtube shows it's better.  I know RESPAWNS game will be great but I need to look at it before I get that's what I do before I buy.

MW3 basically had nothing to do with the old IW. MW2, the Founders of CoD were fired around March of 2010, which the game was released in Nov.09. When they were fired the majority of all people that worked on CoD since the original left IW, which cause the game to get practically no support after release.

I'm more interested to see what RE has to offer. I don't know how or why CoD went from MW2 great open Maps. To MW3 and BO2 small, cluttered, one sightline, headglitch fest.                                                                                                                                                    To the OP. You can check out their website at respawn.com
