Suggestion - Real Dedicated Servers!

Posted by ilostmyname3 on Nov 18, 2012 8:32 AM

The main reason i bought Black Ops 2 was becuase of it coming with dedicated servers, i was very dissapointed to find out they are not what i expected.

If you are giving a game dedicated servers then give us the ability to pay to have our own servers hosted and give us server browsers, theres no point in dedicated servers without private hosting and a server browser to find your favorite server.

I read the post about the dedicated servers here: http://community.callofduty.com/community/call_of_duty/english/black_ops_2/blog/ 2012/09/28/pc-online-security-matchmaking-and-server-intel

The main reason you outline for not allowing private hosting of dedicated servers is to prevent hacking, well that didnt work out too well did it? There are already hackers, there were hackers on day of release. Games will alway have hackers in them and they are usually quite good at not being caught by any form of anti-cheat.

Why you should give us dedicated servers

Hacking - While anti-cheat is somewhat effective at dealing with hackers, it often takes a while for it to catch them, privately owned dedicated servers usually will have human admins on them, this means when somone is obviously hacking it takes no more than 1 match (if that) to have them banned from the server. Yes i am aware that admins sometimes do abuse their power, but the beauty of having true dedicated servers means that you can simply not play that server again and just play on a different one instead.

Community - True dedicated servers allow for a community to be built arround them, it is very often the case that while browsing for servers, players will find a server they like the most and frequent it, making friendships with those who also frequent that server. Servers tend to be owned by clans, this means that they will tend to have more than one server and will often have a website and forums, futher expanding on the community feel of the game.

Stability - With no form of server browser in place, it often leads to having to hop from one macth to another to find a server that you don't get lagg on, it is time consuming and frustrating for players to do this. When there is a server browser you simply bookmark any servers that you have a decent connection on and frequent those.

Mods - Releaseing the server files and allowing for privately hosted servers often comes with modding of the game, while this usually scares the developers quite alot, just look at the mods on COD4, i've spent hundreds of hours playing the zombie and paintball mods and it is truely what kept the game alive for so long for me. Modding allows for the game to be enjoyed from different angles and will help keep it alive for longer.

Conclusion - Giving us privately hosted dedicated servers with a server browser and the ability to mod will increase the lifetime of the game and make it far more popular. In my opinion this game with the changes stated above could be a COD 4 beater, without the changes it will just flop and die like all the others. The pros of making these changes far outweigh the cons.

Thanks for reading, please reply with any reasons as to why you think that these changes should or shouldnt happen, and note any changes you would also like to see.

I do not think that such a thing will happen, when out of the game is left to itself, it is a pity ...

I totaly agree (I still pay COD4 now in the leagues) but that siad this company doesnt give a sh*t. Its out to make money and games that linger for years done keep the money rolling in. they want people to get bored and buy the next years installment.

Unless of course they went down the Team Fortress etc route with "buyable" items purely for cosmetic reasons.....mmm

Anyway. Full support for the request. doubt it will happen and so will def not be buying the DLC's (lol and the cheek to offer a season pass already with the game in sh*t state.......hahahaha)

I totally agree with you hence still palying COD4 (check out the ATI/FGL?COD leagues..) I just think its finished.

Shame but we will wait and see I suppose. It was the lying about it that as really annoying

Nope not ever going to happen. This game is not going to be like BF3 in that regards.

The only reason I bought this game on pc instead of console was the assumption that dedicated servers would come with a server browser on pc.... like blops 1. I mean I'm trying to enjoy this game but the hit or miss matchmaking is making it very hard.

Hello, i read here many frustrations guys and i am a PC gamer for over 10 years now.I have played all the CoD's on pc, mostly CoD2-4(clanbase) and WaW-BO1 because the had dedicated servers.I got my own server frome WaW in the past.I know wat i am talking abouth.I got it aswell BO2 and i have to say, hmmmm disapointed like so many.

Wat surprised me the last couple of years that no Gameservers (the big ones) havend complained abouth this topic. The CoD franchise is so huge and no dedi servers.

I realy hope that there will be servers but i dont think so.

          Regards.

    +1

Reason Black Ops 1 was so great on PC (I'm a PC player) was because it had just this: DEDICATED ******* SERVERS.

Why did you take it out of the second installment, Treyarch???

Totally agree. It is always better to have the gaming community police itself when it comes to cheaters and hackers.

Admin'd rented dedicated servers WON'T happen. The game has been designed to work with matchmaking and that's that. The MW2/3 petitions with hundreds of thousands of signed named did nothing to sway Activision/Infinity Ward, perhaps only to the situation we have now.

This is the best of the worst situation. Sure matchmaking kinda sucks, sure the lag compensation really sucks but we have dedicated servers instead of some kid's computer and internet provider as the host. I am, at least, thankful for that.

So, give it a rest. Dedicated servers are not going to happen.

im guessing it takes more money to run dedicated servers? if this is true, we all know activision will never pay for them, look at what they did to the Diablo franchise? money hungry bastards, they ruined diablo, they will ruin CoD

We suggest dedicated servers every year. They will never implement them.

The hacking argument is such shite. If it was just about hackers, why don't they just have players pay them to host servers? Save them the money and they'd probably even make a bit of money with it.

Bottom line, control needs to be given back to the community. There's no 24/7 map list which I enjoyed a lot. It would be much nicer if you could just rent a server from Activision/Treyarch and they put the settings on whatever you request.

Battlefield tried this and although you hardly/ never lag in that game the boosting , stat padding and pubstacking (this ones in both) is rampant now if the battlefield community (generally more adult gamers) can't handle that responsiblity im for **** sure know the CoD community cannot either.... sorry but every other server will be kids boosting for diamond camo , headshots and 100.00 KDR and loadstars , swarms and dogs ... Fix the servers , but don't unleash a world like this onto kids with full access to mommy and daddy's wallet... it will be hell for everyone

I've played a lot of Battlefield 3 and never encountered any boosting / stat padding servers so far. Teamstacking happens time to time, but those servers get removed quite often. Dice / EA have a special place to report these admins.

The beauty of a server browser is that you can leave a server and find a new one. Sure you will get kids that make boosting servers, but if Treyarch do a bit more administration work, these servers and players can be banned fast. If it is 'too much' work, then add a voluntary admin team on each system.

Battlefield 3 has the servers quite good, I got a bunch on my favorite list where I play from time to time. Much better than random games. Not to mention the fact that the map rotation skips all the horrible maps
