Why do I feel lucky?

Posted by stonculd on Dec 3, 2012 8:35 AM

So I feel lucky that this game is playable online. I get very little to no lag most of the time. I do get the occasional really laggy match but that is really to be expected once in awhile. So why does that make me feel lucky? Well reading the forums I see all the people on here having lag issues and I know exactly what you are going through. I went through the same exact thing with MW3 only it never got better. I trade that damn game off and re purchased it 3 times in hope of it being fixed and it never got better for me. To ad insult to injury I was one of the lucky ones that wasted $$50 on Elite. I had high hopes for that game and was really let down. The funny thing is I shouldn't have to feel like I am lucky that a game I buy does what it is suppose to do. I hope this turns out better for all of you that are experiencing lag.

I think most of the time it has to do with the area you live in?

Spot on m8, there are too many comments on the forums regarding "crappy, cheap" internet, sometimes there is no choice due to location.  My area is getting fibre optic installed this month...

      So it's payback time

The game does seem to have improved a bit lately in my opinion.

Outside of an occasional freeze when the game loads the textures, I haven't had any issues playing this game online.  I don't have any lag even though I am routinely sent to play with foreign players.

Game runs fine(ish) for me too.  Get occasional lag but that is usually when I'm thrown into a match halfway and afterwards I hear tons of foreign voices.  If I hear them before the match starts I back out.  When the game first started it was terrible for me, just like Black Ops 1, which despite my best efforts I never got to run well at all.  This time though a few tweaks to my connection and it's fine.

I'm going to put 2 and 2 together here, and probably get five.  But, in previous CoD people have throttled their connection to get a decent game/advantage.  I see a lot of people saying they aren't doing as well as they did in previous CoD.  Are these the same people who throttle their connection?  I tried it experimenting and on BO2 it doesn't work, you get more lag.  Make your connection as good as possible, on your router, on your PS3 and manual intervention if you hear voices that sound like they are miles away!

Although I agree with you, Activision and the developers will want the game to be played by the masses.  Whilst internet connections are improving the vast majority still dont have a very good service.  Here in the UK the fastest (for the mass market, there are quicker specialist ISPs) you can get is probably Virgin or BT, both of which are not the best for online gaming.  They throttle their service at peak times.  I use Sky, which isn't the fastest, but it is pretty consistent, and I think that is what people need to play online games.
