Awareness isn't working

When i equip awareness/dead silence in a custom game  it works but in multiplayer it doesn't enhance enemy movements at all.. To test this i made a dead silence/awareness class and a dead silence alone class and i couldn't hear any difference. Guys with dexterity/extreme condidtioning could run right up to me with either class and knife me before i heard them. Tried FFA KC and TDM.
