This game SOUNDS terrible!Real gun sounds please!

I don't mean the story/game sounds bad,I mean it literally sounds terrible.I recently went back and played MW2 and wow was I unimpressed. The guns sound so fake/wrong ,and from everything I've seen on-line and on X-Box live,MW3 sounds the same. This might be OK for games like HALO where the guns are fake so it doesn't matter, but when you own some of the guns that are in the game, its different. It sucks when you want to use a gun you actually own, like an AK,and instead of it sounding like an AK-47,it sounds like a rattling tin can.Or when you shoot a bolt action .308 rifle and it sounds like a generic laser beam(I.E.Intervention).I know it's just a game, but if DICE and Treyarc can do it,I don't see why IW can't.
If you think I'm wrong,do yourself a favor and go rent Metal of Honor. I'm not saying MoH is a better game, just a better sounding game. There were parts in that game where I had to turn my headphones down because my ears would start ringing. When I would play MW2 I normally have to turn them up,because you cant hear anything. In MoH you hear the snap of the rifle, the crack of the round passing you and the thud of it hitting something. And most of the guns sound like they do in real life.I've looked around on the forums about audio and haven't seen an answer from IW yet.I don't understand, with all the money IW makes off its fans, why they can't record some real guns?I imagine that its too late to change it now,but I think it's something they need to work on for sure.
Yeah i deff adds to the cool factor of the game. not that big of a deal to me but its always cool to have a game that look/sounds amazing
This is what i like to see. real suggestions to make the game better before it comes out. liked ![]()

Everyone that was atthe CODXP event said the gunssounded much better and not terribly tinny like Blops, MW2 sounded fine to me sure it's not as badass as DICE games gun audio but it's does the trick, the L118A sounds really good IMHO
And campers should have little sounds of them passing gas, or opening up a bag of crackers.
Marshmallows too don't forget them
My bad. Marshmallows too.
And after 5 minutes of camping, smoke should rise from their campfire. Maybe have a tent icon pop up above the camper.
nice idea, we should put that towards IW and get them to put it in MW4, a tent icon or maybe a bed sign like in the sims ![]()
That's exactly what I was thinking!!!! Kudos, friend. +1 for that comment.
The guns sound a lot punchier so I'm happy with that.
Still, I agree, the guns need to sound more like actual guns than a pencil tapping against tin foil, like CoD4's Mini Uzi.
They just sound...bad, but I'm happier with these, or maybe I'm just ready for a change.
Honestly... the sounds are fine to me.
They do need new sounds. I wish they could get their act together and actually go out and fire the real guns with sound equipment set up and fix them into the game.
They use real gun sounds. You do realize that when sounds are compressed they dont sound as good? You do realize that when you have a limited amount of disk space you must compress sounds? I would rather have sounds that sound kinda fake and have bigger maps and more stuff and a better running engine. You may think that adding high quality sounds would'nt make it like that, with less features and stuff, but it can. Not trying to be a douche, but srsly get over it, its not that big of a deal. And also, if you aren't using newer-ish Tritons or Turtle Beaches, and are using, say, Astros, then that would be a big factor in your crappy audio problem. Oh, and HDMI and Digital Optical outputs have better quality, so if you are using standard RCA jacks that could also be a key factor. Hope those tips helped you, but unless its causing you to suck in games (Like, say you cant distinguish between guns so you think you can overpower someone but they kill you with a shotgun when you thought they were using a pistol) then it really shouldn't be much of a problem.
A good TV should boost both audio/visual of the game.
That too, but he said he was using a headset so I was all thinking headset ![]()
I don't mean I can't hear it,I mean it sounds fake.So your telling me IW is using a different engine than Treyarch?Because most of the guns on Black Ops sound right.I do use turtle beach headphones and I do have a good TV.It has nothing to do with my audio set-up,because Medal of Honor,Battle Field 2 and Black Ops sound amazing, while MW2 (and what I've heard of MW3) sounds generic.Don't get me wrong,COD is my favorite franchise of all time,I just think better sound effects can make a good game even better. Will the sounds of the guns keep from buying MW3?No.I don't know all that goes into "disk space" and "compressing sounds" and for that I'm sorry. But what I have done is actually shoot a decent amount of guns and calibers of ammunition used in this game and I know for a fact that's not what an M4,AK-47 or MP5 sounds like.
Jarboman, I know what you're saying. It's akin to analog recordings of, say, the 70's that were then transferred to analog 8 tracks, cassettes or albums. Sounded pretty great and pure. CD's came along and, despite engineers and producers efforts to record and master with analog equipment, the product still ended up weakened by digital in the end.
Now it's all protools and mp3's, so recording with analog equipment is mostly futile. Things get lost in translation, so to speak, and that applies here.
Having said that, BF3 gun sounds are pretty good comparitively, so hmmm....
OP, you're joking aren't you? if theres one thing MW games do right, it's gun sounds. Blops sounded terrible in every sense.
Also, yes, the engines are different; bith 3arc and IW have created sleightly similar but very different looking engines.
If gun sounds were realistic, most would sound identical to one another, it's a change that I don't want happening.
Finally, enough with the walls of text OP, they are very difficult to read. Would it kill you to make them into paragraphs like what I've done?
Yeah your kinda right about "..one thing MW games do right,it's gun sounds. What I'm saying is,not when IW does it.
MW sounded bad,WaW sounded good,MW2 sounded bad,Black Ops sounded good, and from what I've heard MW3 sounds bad.Seeing a pattern here.3arch got it right, and IW is doing wrong.
And no,if the gun sounds sounded real most would not sound the same.An M4 makes a different noise than an MP5,and an AK-47 makes a different noise than an FAL and a .44 MAG revolver makes a differnt noise than a 9mm pistol.
First of all. Wall O Text is bad so not even going to read it.
2nd. The Gun sounds in MW3 are close to sounding real you have never fired a real gun or seen a real gun fired in person so you are not even allowed to say anything about it.
when firing a Gun all you are hearing is the insides of the gun all the moving parts that is all. and that is ALL you can hear in the MW3 guns.
if you want really super real gun sounds join the army

He said he owned an AK-47, and the AK in the game doesn't sound like an actual AK-47.
Should've read before commenting. Especially if your comment was made just to attack the OP.
Wow!Its funny how you've never met me in real life, but you automatically assume I've never seen/fired and actual gun.
That's one thing about some COD fan boys, they think they know everything about every gun
But you have made me realize one thing. Why am I wearing hearing protection when I shoot?Since all you can hear is the internals of the gun working, and not the bang of the projectile leaving the muzzle. How stupid of me!I guess I can stop wearing those now.
Video game weapons have always sounded unrealistic. It is close to imposible to get a real firearm sound drom something electronic, even when you take an audio recording of a gun being fired, it just dosnt sound right.
Yeah realism always makes a better game... i know perks are not real or quick scoping but sounds are a lot simpler to introduce into the game... its not like they are adding sound so they have to compact it... they take away the crap and put in something better for audio.. no idea about compressing but how much more memory could it take?
I like that the guns are Hollywood quiet. If they were 'realistic', people would cry about only being able to hear the guns...until they could not hear anything.
Look guys I'm not trying to start some kind of s**t talking session, even though that's what a lot of these forums turn into.
All I'm saying is,I've played games that have better audio and I think it's something IW needs to work on.
I still love playing COD,and I'll keep playing it real sounds or not.I was just trying to make a suggestion that I think could make a great game even better.
I'm personally unfamiliar with real gun sounds as I'm sure most of us are. In what way do they sound wrong? Any weapon in particular?
I hated the gun sounds in black ops. Didn't MW2 audio win a tonne of awards?
You sound horrible! Anyway who cares about minor details like that. It would be nice but maybe IW did not have the funds to go the range and get actual sound footage of each weapon firing like in MoH.
I'm sorry but the guns in Treyarchs Black Ops sounded like a homeless man drumming on a bucket...
And, newer guns do have more of a metal sound
I actually think the guns sound fine. Much improved over Black Ops and MW2. And remember, not all of the sounds you heard at XP are the sounds that are going to be in the final cut of the game.
for everyone who is being a female dog over the gun sounds just stfu. This is what you should all do go to a gun range take a recorder and record sounds and then play them back they have no similarity to an actual gun fire. 1) when a gun fires the sound waves produced are different from being directly behind the gun, to being infront of the gun to the side etc. 2) the frequency of a gun fire cant be mimiced let alone recorded becuase of how fast it goes off and how loud the procusion is. 3) Ive shot real guns and i meen alot of real guns. They are all quiter and toned out in the game so people can actually hear wtf there doing. and let alone hear other sounds other then fire arms going off left and right. ALSO to put an end to this go fire a real gun wearing military ear protectors it muffles the sound so much its not exact but it is similar to the gun sounds in the game. SO maybe you should research or better yet know wtf your talking about before opening your mouth.
Apart from this MW3 had managed it to give us awesome Soundeffects (Guns, Explosions, peeeeps, klicks, interjections,....). And BlackOps2 DIDN´T.
Black Ops 2 sound is the worst ever in a call of duty game. bought it. look forward to play. did it and get so disappointed. Worst Soundeffects ever! Every gun sounds similar (i now they aren´t but they did!) Wheter a feeling for a distance or a good echo in closed rooms. All Explosions sounds the same and also no feeling of distance there too. guys did´t you took one soundeffect for all the assault rifles, one for all smgs and so on. this is just BAAAAAD! Never get so disappointed before. The soundfeedback of grenadehits are awful! The feedback when got a hit on a enemy no matter which gun is awful too. And THIS is the most important - the feedback when you hit an enemy. it is to less! This is NO comparison to MW3. MW3 has the best soundeffects of all COD´s. What´s good about BlackOps2 is the Soundtrack! It is just genius.
each and every guns sounds different on the game..there isnt any two guns that sound EXACTLY the same..if you think there is you need a new headset
If you want to hear authentic gun sounds, move to Compton.

Never heard of it...
... oh... Medal of Honor... the DICE BC2 cut and paste.
No thanks.
Idk if it was just me or not but I heard the game over my TV then I watched vids with my turtle beaches. Imo they guns sound alot better once you have the headset on.
". i know perks are not real" -micker59092
Oh really? Everybody is born the same? Perks are real, they are just invisible to us. Sorry, don't mean to pick on you.
Guns may not sound realistic, but I just LOVED the PTRS-41 in World at War! That gun was a thunderclap coming from the heavens! I just loved how it projected through the map!
Want an ice cold beer to go with that? Some fries and a burger, too? I'll call up IW and tell them to order you a relaxing foot massage while I'm at it.
i agree with this. bad company 2 had amazing sounds and i loved the feeling you get when you fired an M95. In all cods they have had fake and less real gun sounds, idk if its because the majority of their players are 12 year olds but they really do need to add realism in sound and the graphics on the guns. mw2 guns looked like toys and black ops guns looked insanely generic and boring.
IW and SHG should really record real guns sounds, I can't believe it when I hear a suppressor making a "pshh pshh" sound... in reality it may not be very noisy on a 9mm handgun but on a 5.56 or 7.62 it actually makes a lot of noise even if suppressed !!
Why don't we just agree that IW has a lessened quality of audio towards 3arc, but IW has better gameplay. And for me, I don't care about audio, if I can hear their footsteps, I'm good.
I just hate some of the voice acting.
Especially the "Kill confirmed" narration.
*shudders*
Agreed. Some of the voices are just plain bad. Imagine once we've had to hear them over and over, too. I hate to nitpick as much as the next guy, but man....that's one voice you don't want to screw up. (one we have to hear repeatedly)
The one I'm hearing in my head, in particular, is the nasally "UAV online". I can understand wanting the voices to be a bit different, but damn!!! ![]()
I agree with the OP. I am not an expert on gun sounds, but I have fired a few different ones. The sounds on the CoD franchise are weak compared to BF.
BF3 has amazing combat sounds in their game. I have watched many documentaries of the war in Afganistan and Iraq and the sounds from BF3 are very similar.
The sounds on CoD do not come close. CoD has good sounds, but is it realistic gun fire, probably not.
~TC
Black Ops 2 has NOOOOOOOOO good sounddesign in Multiplayer mode. Say no more!
You would have to record just one gun many many times. The sound reverberation and tone will change depending on the distance and proximity to hard structures.
Quite a feat......It's just a blinking game!
Why why why did you dig up a thread that is over a year old?
