Using silencers

I rarely used to use silencers on my SMGs, especially on FFA. This is because their range is reduced so much and they 'feel' significantly weaker. Also, I usually like to show on the radar when I shoot so I can fool enemies into blind-rushing me, leading to the accumlation of quick, easy kills. However, I was recommended to try it with the MP7, and boy did it work well (30-5 rushing)!

With a silencer, I like to move around the edge of the map, picking people off stealthily and then moving on. It does make it easier to get high pointstreaks, and it was a lot of fun, as demonstrated in the video below: What about you? How do you like to use silencers? Please include classes and poinstreaks if possible.

What's the matter? You don't like not knowing where your enemies are? Learn to check your corners and try to not rely on your minimap.

LOL so true.  I dont understand why people complain so much.  Assassin is a perk that many people use, that is why I dont always rely on the map.  I usually know when people have assassin, its simple math -deroo- Just count the red dots that show up and how many people are on the other team, if it doesnt add up than you know that you have to watch for that stealthy person. Its called tactics my friend, something that obviously you werent born with.

I would take off steady aim from the MP7.

One of the members on this site did a video comparing the MP7 and the pp90 and one of the things he showed was the the MP7 doesn't benefit much if at all from steady aim.  You're better starting off with dead silence or stalker then replacing dead silence with quickdraw.

Here's the video if you're interested.  Hipfire starts at about 2:38

    I can't stand MP7's -_-

Besides that, that prestige I usually went with:

Gold L86 LSW silencer with rapid fire
    SOH
    Assassin
    Stalker

Good lord that gun has some power to it. I don't see why people don't use LMG's more often.

    Re: Using silencers

For medium range stealthy engagements my scalpels are the M4 or ACR w/ 2 Attachments: Silencer and Extended Mags!

Another silenced weapon  worth a try IMO is the AK-47. Most of my buddies who gave it a decent chance usually liked it enough to unlock it in later Prestiges since it's unlocked so late. I was turned off by it initially, but I noticed since it kicks straight up and down, so it really seems to give a lot of headshots when you aim for the tagets torso. On maps with decent mid range shootouts (for example Mission or Hardhat),  strikers and akimbos can get rocked by a silenced AK easily if you can play smart and make them engage you in the open. It's not for everyone but its great for taking out a team of enemies quickly when you get the drop on them. SOH, Assassin, Stalker and Specialist all the way!...They should call it the Superman Killstreak.

    Re: Using silencers

Pretty much run a silencer on everything except for shotguns and sniper rifles.

Shotguns and snipers seem to suffer greatly, even with Range on shotties, and I'd rather have a one-hit kill than be sneaky with these weapons.

As far as other guns, I hardly feel a difference, maybe an extra bullet but that's about it. And since I mostly play HC, where even a silenced PM-9 can snipe from afar, I don't have to worry about my guns not killing.

Only time I regret having a silencer is when I run into someone with a vest on.

    Re: Using silencers

I'm surprised at some of the opinions people have put for their silenced gun of choice.

M4A1 and ACR have bad iron sights IMO so silencing those for me meant using the 2 attachments proficiency and throwing on a red dot sight as well (don't get me started on the G36C - worst iron sights ever!). SCAR-L silenced for me was awesome and hence my silenced AR of choice.

I'm VERY surprised about someone using a silenced LMG as they really suffer from damage loss and... well... don't quite feel the same. Silencers for me are about being quietly mobile and LMGs don't support that playstyle.

As for silenced snipers: anyone tried putting an ACOG and silencer on the RSASS? Works well if you use it like the MK14 rather than trying to go for OHKs.

      Re: Using silencers

Also having used LMGs a lot, I have to agree with COD_Widow.

The trick to LMGs is NOT run & gun. The trick to them is to go prone. You can make an LMG work on any map, but there are a couple of maps where they shine really bright.

I like ANY LMG with Blind Eye, Assassin, and Marksman. All you need to know is +/- 2 feet of the target. If you know that, and with Marksman you will, you will get a kill - even with a Silencer.

The M60 benefits from any and every attachment you put on it, but what you use really depends on how smart the opposing team is. In any case, the best proficiency is the Attachment proficiency - even though the 60 kicks like horse in heat. Grip helps with this problem and so does the silencer. The biggest problem I run into with the M60 is the stock iron sights. You can still work magic with the gun using the iron sights, but you have to scan non-stop or else someone is going to edge into your peripheral vision and you won't know it. Ideally I like the M60 with a Red Dot Sight and Extended Mags, but it depends upon how sharp the opposing team is. If they are smart, then I first try switching the Ext Mags for a Silencer. If that doesn't work, I exchange the RDS for a Grip. That usually solves all the problems. You can get deeper; sometime using Kick and a Silencer works, sometimes Kick and the Grip works better. Just depends on how your opponents are reacting.

As for the other LMGs, any combination of attachments works fine. Ideally I like Grip and a Silencer. If you are prone, Attachment proficiency is the way to go. And a prone LMG beats a mobile LMG all week long.

Of course, in order to make this class work, you have to get beyond the camper vs rusher thing. Different situations call for different tactics. I do both at different times so I have no problem with anyone else that does one or the other.

I'll go along with all of that.

You wanna run n gun, then use a Shotty, Subby, or AR. You wanna be a 1 man mobile Sentry Gun, pick up a LMG and a Tac Insert. Best defensive set up in the game.

The M60 is the 1 LMG I prefer without a Silencer, but that is just my personal preference.

          Re: Using silencers

My biggest problem with LMGs is that an AR will do the same thing with a higher movement speed and greater accuracy - the movement speed advantage more flexible when it comes to playstyle as you can run and gun AND provide long range support. I did have a go with the MK46 which I quite liked and the L86 LSW which I hated, and quickly found that I would get better results with a SCAR-L or G36C (as long as it had an RDS). Even the "noob-friendly" MP7 can provide long range support!

I would have used LMGs more had IW retained One Man Army from MW2, given I could switch to an SMG class if I needed to move quickly and quietly to another position (I used to use the RPD with OMA, and had a silent UMP-45 class ready for swift movement in case I got overrun). However, we all know why OMA got removed.

LMGs could do without the damage reduction at all ranges the silencer causes, or a buff to be 2-shot from the torso or chest up and 3-shot to the limbs (3-shot torso / 4-shot limbs when silenced). Most times I encountered an LMG user I was able to outgun them at ideal LMG range with an AR. Having Sleight of Hand as your first perk or first unlock on Specialist also made the larger magazines LMGs have redundant.

There is no AR in the game that will shoot down a Pave Low and then kill an entire team with a Silencer on without reloading.

Slip a Grip on there with that Silencer or a Thermal and watch what happens to the recoil pattern.

Go down on one knee as often as you can for drastic recoil reduction, or GO PRONE and watch the recoil disappear.

I tried it with kick and sliencer and with grip and silencer. Went into a private match on boardwalk and then practiced shooting at a poster on one of the walls. Kick and sliencer was the best without burst firing. I then tried it with rapid fire. Nothing worked, but burst fire

Use what you feel comfy with my friend, but I can tell you the MG and L86 are by far the best all round LMGs, and Attachments + Grip and Silencer are a solid choice for both if you can get along with the Irons. If you can't then try a RDS and Silencer or Grip.

I could never use that effectively. Even with a grip the recoil was still bad (even when crouching), and the iron sights were appalling.

MK46 was easily my favourite of the LMGs though. Try it instead of the L86 - the iron sights are far easier to use and the recoil is more manageable.

i love my mk14 with acog but the silencer greatly reduces the damage it does point blank and hit markers  no silencer 1 shot, one kill at close range 2 if you were a vest.

I use a silencer on all of my guns except the shotguns, pistols, MP (bar the Mp9) and the weapons that don't have a silencer attachment.

Fad/g36c/m4a1/ump45 with extended mags and silencers.

How i play with the silencers is how i would play without them. It depends on the enemy team if i need to change tactics. And i normally have it with emags also since on most of the guns i can handle the iron sights.
