mac could you speculate as to why this patch has taken so long, also can you forsee the next patch being a game changer, more specifically any inside info what will be different about this patch from the others. any predictions on host improvements etc. thanks

I know you want Mac's opinion but personally as someone who has anticipated networking title updates/hotfixes but ending up disappointed, don't expect a "game changer" or a "miracle patch."

I don't think GHANDI has been specific with what's happening with networking but I have this feeling it'll be like the previous patches. It won't benefit everyone.

I don't know vims, this one took a while, somehow I got some trust in this patch.

The best patch for me was 1.19 on the PS3.  Since that time, it's a crap shoot on when your not on the bad side of the lag compensation.  When we get into a match that we know that we are behind...we back out and a host migration happens about 80% of the time.  Hosting still sucks on the PS3.  With all of the new bandwidth requirements that BO 2 is introducing, I am hoping that Treyarch implements the reverse of what IW has done, make the host have some type of ping advantage.  I would rather one person have an advantage on me than the entire other team....again, this is just my opinion.

I do also host a lot, which I don't get, my connection ain't that special, half the village has the same connection type as I do.

But somehow I always end up as the host(well about 7 out of 10)

i appreciate your response vims, i really think this is all we have left to talk about now in this thread the incoming patch, i just want one day its all i ask thats this game is playable for me, ive never experienced the hosting as bad as it is now, the stuttering while host is driving me mental, i suppose this is the downside now as the playerbase has dwindled.

if they do fix this then its something to fall back on if blops 2 has a nightmare start, but lets cross fingers and toes that aint gonna happen. well my prediction is something radical must be in store with next patch how else can the timeframe be explained.

shame no developer will come forward and give us some insight into whats going on, i mean we have stuck by this game, through the most awfull online experience in the series so far, they owe us bigtime.

I could only surmise based off the information ghandi's given us before..

so with that in mind, if it was me, I would've gone through the data they have collected and the code, seen where changes could be made, looked at what has happened in the live enviroment with changes they already made. Used that to fiddle with various settings ect and spent the time making sure they did it properly as opposed to what we have had before where we have had small changes that have improved certian aspects for some people.

I'll be honest and with the greatest of respect to the iw team  im not expecting a massive or even a noticable change. if the matchmaking isnt fixed so im no longer classed in mainland europe im finally giving up this game. The only thing thats got me even remotely interested in playing again was hc face with no richochet.

mac i'm gutted cause if someone as knowlegeable as yourself cant see much hope, that puts my thinking right back to square one, i really thought this would have been sorted along time ago, if i remember correctly ghandi said at some point he was bringing in some specialist network team to beef up what they had already.

also this patch coming should be what they hoped to implemnet into future titles with the networking side they were that confident, definately alot riding on this patch, fixing this would go along way to mending some fences and getting some support back on there side.

hey we never know , they might surprise us all..just the track record on any title updates/hotfixes/nerfs/buffs so far isnt that great.

to be honest i think this patch is more likely going to be  more an experiment/test for the next game  than than a fix for this one.

I like this, we only can wait..

Yeah, wait indeed. Novel idea that is round here...

Lets face it, this patch is not going to improve anything. The last patch was supposed to be 'the' killer patch for networking. It did nothing whatsoever for me, despite Ghandis confidence that they'd seen real improvements and the last one was going to be 'the one'. Well, I see no such proclamations from the powers that be this time round, despite the extra time given for data collectiojn/anaysis etc, so confidence isn't exactly sky high on this as a result.

Anyway, I simply can't believe that here we are 11 months on, waiting for a patch to fix the networking. It really is an incredible feat that they've managed to pull off here, keeping us on hooks until this point waiting for a fix. A true master class in customer deception, so hats off for that.

On a brighter note, this new EE network that went live in the UK the other day is giving me 8meg down and 1.5meg up via my phone. A bit of mobile hotspotting might level the [laying field for me later..

The down side here is that if TA retain the same code for BO2, then all hell's gonna break loose next year with kids playing off their phones on 4g (read 3.5g in reality).
