The weapon balance in this game is still garbage.

Assault rifles and SMGs are still vastly more powerful than any other weapon class, I would gladly pick up the worst guns in either class before even touching a striker let alone any of the lesser shotguns, and snipers are probably the most inconsistent weapon in the game.

 

I've gotten headshots with snipers when my crosshairs were an inch away from their body and missed shots when the crosshairs are dead center on their chest.

 

and don't even get me started on the riot shield. what. a. JOKE. I've had people shoot the EMPTY AIR beside my shield and kill me when i was pointed straight forward, not to mention how laughably easy it is to sidestep knife people using it.

 

Is there really a point to using anything other than the ACR, Type 95 or MP7 when they are far and away (seriously, it's really not even a close match) the most powerful guns in the game? And the MP9 is just as bad an offender, a sidearm that kills as good as a primary SMG and is (from my experience) actually  EVEN MORE ACCURATE at longer ranges than the MP7.

 

Why bother with the other 30 or so guns when they are so grossly outclassed by the top 4?

 

I suppose the argument for skill can be made, but the sad part is the top 4 are so good that even a terrible player like me can get 21 kills with the ACR while you have to be extremely talented with ANY shotgun, even the striker, to even come close to that amount.

 

TL; DR - Weapon balance is lame and caters to noobs like me.

    It doesn't matter what you use if the lag comp screws you over.

     

    For the first time tonight I tried the FMG9 akimbo and still struggled to kill with them and they are supposed to be overpowered.

     

    Got easier kills tonight with the M4 and G36C than anything else and these are not top 4 guns.

      Yeah but with some sniper rifles this means someone escapes being killed that shouldn't have done.  Even with the automatic weapons you have a good chance of still killing them even if you have to spray.  One sniper rifle I'll be using soon, the AS50, only has 10 bullets.  If the lag denies me a kill this will force me to use lower end killstreaks, and may mean I have to relocate earlier than required.  It's not like I can easily pick up a gun from the floor when I've run out of ammo and the perks I use will be tailored for snipers.

        My comment was meant as a generalisation of the screwed up game.

         

        I use snipers a fair bit and you're right if the lag screws your shot it normally results in a death.

         

        There are plenty of guns in the game and they're available to everybody so technically nothing should be overpowered so to speak.

         

        Some players just spam the easy choices though and that just bugs most people.

         

        Just for the record my most used gun is the M4 not that it matters.

    i dont other guns cant compare to the acr or the mp7 , i use the mk46 and can beat anybody using any gun apart from a shotgun obviously .

     

    i did use to think that these guins are or where overpowered ... not true at all  ok yeah there extremely easy to use there like a ... handicap for beginner's really anybody can use them and dont really take that much skill to use.

    AR's and SMG's should be more common in most of the MW3 maps....as it probably should be.  Can you imagine joining a military unit that passed out shotguns and sniper rifles, and then sent you in to a short to mid-range fight?  (yes I know a shottie is CQC, but it has limited range and ammo, relatively).

    There are other great options to the typical MP7 and ACR;  the PPM is my favorite.  The M16 (post buff) is deadly.  P90 is great, the PM9 good as long as tight quarters, etc, etc.

    People have just got into a habit of using the MP7/ACR/Type 95...in my opinion there are so many other options!

      Why do people keep comparing Call of Duty to realistic examples? This franchise is an arcade FPS; it does NOT resemble realism in ANY way, save the gun models.

    Well, snipers are excluded from MW3 by some margin and it's quite rare to get a good amount of kills with them because of the maps.  Unlike in COD4 (Backlot, Countdown, Pipeline, Downpour, Overgrown etc) where I could see myself doubling or trebling the number of kills with MW3 snipers in COD4 maps when compared to MW3 maps.

    I am an average player but have found that the biggest problem with using different weaons is changing my mindset. I suck with shotguns but am only 3000 XP away from my gold SPAS. When I first started using it i would get maybe 5 kills now I am up near the 20 kill per match. I probably get 30 deaths, but that does not bother me. I also fancy myself pretty good with the riot sheild.

      You might want to try the Model next.  I got the Model gold first and then took the SPAS to gold. But when I switched back to the Model I found that I was quite a bit better with it than I was the first time around.  It's firerate is pretty similar to the SPAS (ignore the annimation on the Model) but it seems to have higher damage.  So if you're getting kills with the SPAS you may actually have an easier time getting them with the Model.  The Model also looks cooler in Gold imo.

    The ARs and smgs are fairly well balanced with the exception of one weapon in each category.  The mp5 was buffed into being the worst smg by a wide margin.  That gun needed better recoil not faster fire rate.  The pp90 and pm9 have better recoil and a faster fire rate than the mp5 anyway so its still the worst.  The ARs have the cm901.  This gun is now completely outclassed by the Ak47.  And even more outclassed by the acr.  I am generally okay with the really good weapons in each class.  The mp7 and acr are still pretty well above everything else but at least they can lose out to other weapons in a variety of situations. 

     

    The real balance issues are in the lmgs, shotguns, snipers, and many of the secondaries.

    The pkp and mg36 (and for the most part mk46) are all crap compared to the L86.  They all have the same fire rate but the L86 has the best recoil by far and reloads the almost as fast as the mg36.  The m60 is the only weapon in class to offer anything over it and what it does offer is pretty limited.  I do really like the m60 though.  Cqc lmg destruction for days.

     

    The snipers have 2 glaring balance issues the as50 is just strait up worse than the barrett.  And the L118 is just strait worse than the msr.  There is very little reason to use either the as50 or L118 over the other sniper.

     

    The pistols are terrible in this game compared to machine pistols.  The mp9 is a pocket mp7 with more range and worse recoil.  The akimbo fmgs are better than any shotgun.  So why in the hell would anyone take a pistol?  Also the pistols themselves have intra class balance problems.  The five seven and 44 mag dominate the class.  The five seven's instant reload, and 44 mag's faster reload and better recooil than the other high damage pistols makes the others sort of pointless.  The deagles can carry one more round per mag, but that does little good if the recoil is too high to land a lethal dose of lead faster than the 44/mp412.

     

    The shotguns are very poor in this game.  The pumps in particular display terrible inconsistencies inside their max damage range.  The 4 pellet kill stock is terrible and practically make the pumps worthless in core modes until the damage proficiency.  And the 3 pellet kill with damage just isn't enough to prevent point blank hitmarkers.  I have so many hitmarker films that it just disgusts me.  With perfect aim even in a lobby where every one is 4 barring bs hitmarkers still happen frequently.  This is a common trait for all the pump shotguns.  And then there is the aa12...Worst gun in mw3 bar none.  A silenced usp is more effective than the aa12.  Its terrible.  It is litterally the shortest range weapon in mw3 and it is still significantly outclassed in time to kill in over half its range.  And in the first half of its range it still is only competitive in time to kill not actually better.  All rapid fire smgs, the m60, type 95, m16, mk14 (if you fire near max rpm) any akimbo weapon, and the other shotguns all beat it soundly inside the first half of its range.  The aa12 is the single most glaring balance issue in mw3.

    No offense but this is nothing new. Everyone knows that MW caters to SMG's first and then maybe assault rifles. Just camp with LMG's and Snipers.
