has everyone forgotten about the horrible lag compensation or something.

Posted by blackopsfan2025 on Aug 22, 2012 2:04 AM

anyone with a good connection and experience with online gaming knows that lag compensation is horrible in the original black ops and the latest modern warfare. it's going to be difficult for anyone to buy this game if no significant improvement has been made and lag compensation has not been dialed down to that seen in the first modern warfare. there also needs to be open communication from the devs about this problem. i am tired of situations where you shoot first and die, killed after taking cover, enemies have super quick reflexes, you need to shoot an entire magazine to kill an enemy, and such. to also know the devs have not been open about it and do everything from lie to and deceive everyone about this. lag compensation was obviously poorly written or has just been turned up more with every game to attract more profit by catering to novices with bad internet.

and before anyone says get better internet. i have tried black ops with bandwidth from 50mbps/3mbps to 1mbps/256kbps, in 2 countries, in 3 different cities and 1 county, with 3 different isp's, in 4 different homes, on multible xbox's, different setups, etc. just because you don't have any problem doesn't mean a majority don't. and it was not just when hosting either. and you don't need theater or killcams to see or feel it. i have even trotteled my net to get the advantage in another game with lag comp. so ya.

I never really had a problem in Black Ops. Yes I have it terribly bad in MW3. In MW3 I get shot buy the bullets in front of me but with nobody there. Happens all the time. However I had a great experience on Black Ops. I lagged from time to time like anybody else, but most of the time I had a decent connection if I was host or not. Out of all the games I thought Black Ops had the best connection, then World At War, and 3rd MW2. MW3 has been horrible for me. I seriously hope Black Ops 2 does not follow that. Lag comp has ruined MW3 most of the way.

No one has forgotten which is why the community, espcially on these forums, is very tense about this subject and we hope that treyarch have learned from the mistake that IW made. I have heard few complaints about BOs though there have been one or two. The fact that IW had to change the settings to "something close to what they were in MW2" shows what a monumental error of judgement it was. (Was on Rubins Twitter feed at some point don't have a link to it.)

I completely agree.  Black Ops is really where the lag comp started.  There were lag issues in MW2, but not really compensation problems.  In Black Ops, the devs denied any kind of problems with lag compensation.  I think that now MW3 devs have admitted the problem, and have done the right thing in trying to fix it, BO2 devs have nowhere to hide.  In one of the interviews, I believe it was one of the devs (theres a thread around here somewhere) spoke about netcode and network and lag and they were going to do everything they can to keep the game flowing as fast as possible.

Unfortunately, in that same video, you can see a few instances of questionable delays in firing bullets, and those bullets registering, which worries me.  But for me, I'll buy the game as long as they are honest and do what they can to fix the problems that exist.

Also, if I buy this game and there are lag comp problems, I will probably do what I can to "tweak my connection" to remedy my connection problems.  I won't sit idly by anymore and get screwed by the lag comp.

Also, now that they have taken a focus on competitive players, I feel that it would all be for nothing if lag comp problems run rampant.  So hopefully because they want players to be able to actually compete in a fair manner, they will get this fixed.

MW3 devs did nothing to fix it, in fact I think they did the opposite as they wanted to cater to the people with terrible connection.

Back in Blops1 I had terrible connection, so I guess lag comp was on my side a lot as I did very well, same as MW3 until about Decemember when I got better connection and became host more and I noticed how bad it was in MW3, but even going back to Blops1 it wasn't as bad. I saw the bullet delay and hit detection everyone complained about but in MW3 I can barely play any game i'm host in.

Even left a game mid way through so I wasn't host because of the BS I was getting.

As long as BO2 isn't the same as MW3's Lag comp, i'm fine. Hell I don't even care if bullet delay is back I can still play though that and wouldn't care.

Everyone here is aware of the connectivity issues in Black Ops & MW3

I'm sure the devs are aware that the community are worried about BO2's connectivity.

The link you had in another thread where Vahn spoke about connectivity means that he's aware that BO2 needs to have a decent connectivity system in place so there's fair competition.

He mentions "lag detection" as something that is defined as inconsistant & inaccurate so there is a reason why there hasn't been much chatter between the community & himself.

    An example:

"Lag Compensation should be completely removed" Mad smiley 18

"I have a 100mb download speed" therefore my connection is optimized for gaming" Mad smiley 18

These comments is why we can't get proper dialect from Vahn as:

    1) Lag Compensation has been in all FPS ever since the 90's

    2) Your download speed isn't as important as your upload speed & your ping to the host.

3 Matchmaking & Region Lock - finding players closer to you & avoiding the issue of being matchmaked to someone from another country.

    4) According to IW developers, the code used for connectivity in MW3 was different compared to MW2 which included more security code & removed the host advantage when the game first launched.

If the community were more understanding about the connectivity system, we would get better answers but we're stuck with players who still believe lag compensation is new to COD & that their download speed is the most important factor of connectivity.

That won't cease to happen because everyone on this forum is a game expert and can develop such a better COD than Vahn and the crew...*drops mic*

Actually, for me, it seems like Black Ops, as of NOW, is absolutely fine to me-I rarely have any problems. I doubt they can **** it up if they got it right now-all they can do is improve. Treyarch know what they are doing.

You are just getting into some lucky matches with decent results from the host.  Continue to play it and you will see.  I was in GOD mode two nights ago, completely untouchable, then went and played with a different group and was unable to even get a shot off.

It's these twitter comments from Vahn that bother me, the arrogance and unwillingness to even remotely have a discussion should not only concern me, but everyone involved.  "They have different meanings...put on big boy pants"  This is just same type of rhetoric we saw last year when 3arch was denying problems with not only lag, but the early spawn system as well.

I'll tell you guys this now, there is a real reason to be concerned.
