Can't Send/Receive Text Msgs Anymore - How to fix?
-

Well, apparently I got hopped at some point and leveled up believe it or not... somebody trying to help me I guess
Anyway, at some point after that (a few days later and after sending/receiving msgs with no problem) I stopped being able to receive or send text msgs in the game. I can still invite people and be invited, but I'm not sure what happened to texting.
Have any of you had this problem? Does anyone know how to fix it? I tried deleting my profile (bummer
) and creating a new one, but that did NOT fix this. Is this a side effect of the hop, or some sort of glitch everyone is encountering right now? Thanks!
It's not the hacks, I heard that activision has disabled the texts due to hackers either
a.) sending "naughty" messages to the allies of people they hoped
b.) Gotten the hoped person's ally's FC and hacked them as well.
I didn't even know that they could disable text messaging :O Much less read them.
From what I've heard, its a new error. I don't think they disabled them, at least that is what customer support said.
Jet, here's the thing, they're not going to admit that they have a hacking problem. They're going to cover this up like the death of Jimmi Hoffa. Their games are "perfect" except for two patches worth of fixes. They don't have thousands of hackers running around making people mad at them, they have a new error that just so happens to have been a hotfix that disabled part of what the hackers were doing. Just like the patch that got rid of mod menues didn't get rid of mod menues a week after the patch.
Somebody needs to get their act together and get a patch out, and quick! If they have any hope of a good turnout for pwople buying BOII on wiiU, activision and 3arc (the porters of the game) need to get on IW to let them make a patch to fix all of the issues in it.
You are just a bit paranoid
CPD, you gotta get your info straight. Activision publishes the game. Treyarch and IW are devs forced to put out a game every year.
According to an email I got today from Activision, this would seem to be the case. They took everyone down. They said on 5/23 that they are aware of some of us experiencing difficulty receiving "private messages" and that this is a temporary issue occurring due to the latest update. They said they will "have the private message system up to speed in a few days". So, I'll wait and see what happens. Too bad I didn't know all this in advance somehow and thought it was because of the hop. I tried to fix my profile myself and ended up blowing it away
. Oh well... I like a challenge. I hope this info helps at least some of you and that this is fixed asap... and please be kind to me if you see me out there. I have stinky guns again - LOL ![]()
I beleive Activision purposly disabled due to an issue in which hackers could send you a simple text message then hop your account. Although another plausible reason could be what Wozny stated.
Why in gods name do they not just stop requests rather than texts?
Ok. It is now June 4th and still no ability to text message. So, it appears that most of you are right and that Activision is either clueless or just draggin' their feet. (I hope I'm wrong, but...) I haven't heard anymore about this, but I'm getting more and more annoyed. If they are shelving this because of BOII coming out, they're making a huge marketing mistake in my opinion. It probably won't affect sales dramatically, but it may impact it more than they think. Seriously, don't they realize that we all talk via blogs, forums, Facebook, etc.? Idiots. I may actually switch to Battlefield 3 if this keeps up. I like COD, but I want to be able to talk to friends. If they can't even get a lid on this problem, what's to say BOII is going to be any better, right? (maybe worse if they're rushing production) Anyway, if I hear more (and it doesn't sound like a complete load of bull), I'll post again... Maybe we should ALL call Activision. It probably won't help since they don't seem to care, but maybe.... if nothing else, annoying level 1 support feels like therapy - lol
Game on....
The text messaging was not disabled by Activision. Nintendo did that because a new code was leaked that claimed to be able to obtain the MAC address of your Wii through a text message. You could then use this MAC address to take control of the Wii. Essentially it was a system-wide account hopper. I can't confirm the validity of the code itself because it's one of the few I don't pay attention to. I do remember hearing the bit about Nintendo actually being the ones to disable text messaging through a video posted on these forums of a call with Activision customer support. The rep actually said that Nintendo had disabled text messaging. I can't remember which video it was though. I agree that this is taking far too long but at the same time, something this complex is quite honestly an unprecedented hack and patching is going to be ridiculously complicated.
To the OP:
They disabled text messaging since this was a way to get on others' accounts.
So, I called Activision again today (6/8)... they're still working on it and yes it was disabled due to hackers hopping accounts. However, I was unable to confirm that Nintendo did/did not do this. If they did, who knows when this will be fixed because I think they're throwing all resources at the new Wii U. Well, I for one will not be buying a new Wii if this is the kind of crappy security they have set up. I initially heard that hackers were able to hop accounts via the Allie Codes, but now I'm not so sure based on previous posts. If they can truly get at an address (MAC?) for an individual's Wii, Nintendo has a serious problem on their hands. I had hoped that they could fix this in a few weeks, but I'm not going to hold my breath now.... may be time to switch to some other platform ![]()
Maybe time to go practice your sk8ing
and knock this gaming lark on the head ![]()
You obviously have angered the gods and as punishment the text messaging has been removed. If further angering continues the servers will be shut down permanetly.
SLAY THE HACKERS AND USE THEM AS OFFERINGS TO THE GODS AND GODDESSES!!!
IM WITH YOU PATNER KILL THOSE BASTARDS!!!!!!!!!
Were you too lazy to type SKATERGIRL or are you just illiterate?
You just double trolled the same thread without realizing it ![]()
Whoa! Didn't see that. Can we go for three?
EDIT - Someone posted the link to the hax0r site and Foxhound got rid of it ![]()
First page forums domination complete ![]()
I have no life ![]()
@OP I don't really mind it since the only downside is that I can't tell people I can't join their party for some odd error or whatever, Or the fact that I"m just plain ignoring them ![]()
I interupt your domination. ![]()
But its hard for when you have to leave or you won't be playing long to just leave. It just feels better to go "gtg:/" or something like that.
King had already interrupted and I just sayed "screw it" after that. One minute of dominating the first page ![]()
