I run in a number of 6 man squads on Xbox.  I tested last night (Starting at 8:00pm EST) with one party leader that was on the West Coast USA (Seattle guy was hosting).  I am on East Coast.  Well, we didn't run into the usual cast of characters that was for sure, but the games were pretty bad.

2 hours later switched it up and ran with an East Coast US group.  I was in GOD MODE.  It seriously felt like cheating.  I believe my internet is pretty strong as I am using FIOS 35/35.

My point is that we had no issues playing ground war with a smaller party, but as soon as our party got bigger we immediately had issues. As for locations, the smaller group was two of us located in Texas, one in Montana. I cannot be sure of the larger group, but at least 3 of us were based in Texas, two in Montana. We consistently got paired with people from Central / South America.

Thats my point.. you are playing groundwar in a large party, as it wasnt a full party for ground war you're more likely to fill available spots in open sessions. i bet you had one of the texans as party leader too right?

Yes, as I mentioned earlier my friend, who lives right by me in Dallas, was host. There are a lot of people in and around Texas. I shouldn't be seeing PERU clan tags every session we join.

just because you live in a highly populated area doesn't mean everyone is them playing mw3 in the same game mode as you. As matchmaking now goes off the party leader maybe you could try next time to swap party leaders to one of the montana guys as that should throw you back into mainland america lobbies IF there are open sessions available

I'll give it a shot. I hope to god it works. I've been avoiding large parties for the last few months because of lag. Now it seems the patch that was supposed to fix that made it even worse. Anyways, thanks for your time. I do appreciate all the effort you have put into pressing for fixes to this game.

What Maccabi states is correct. However, I'll add two extra factors into the equation. When matching with parties we prefer sessions that have parties in them. Secondly, the more people who are in the session the more people need to be able to connect to the host. The vagaries of the Internet backbone and NAT settings come into play here to a greater degree when you join as a large group. For example, you as the party host may be able to join a session, but John your ninth player who can connect to you cannot connect to the session host. Instead of in previous CoDs where all would join and poor John would be left behind we treat parties as an atomic unit. You all get in or you all don't.

    Cheers,

Thanks for responding, but I am not sure what that has to do with in-game lag. We have never had issues finding sessions. Search times are generally < 10 seconds. However, these sessions that we so quickly find all too often result in a horrid in-game experience.

Are the free maps bound the Activision Agreement with Microsoft, or is that only Paid DLC? I tried to see if the maps were available on PS3 earlier this morning and there wasn't anything on it (nor any playlist update).

    Edit:

Are these forums EVER going to be fixed? Nearly every single post I make, I get told "An error has occured, please try again.". I've learned you can just ignore it because the message gets posted anyway, but it's really annoying, and after 7 or so months of the forums existing, I thought it would've been addressed by now.

Since the patch I've noticed this even when not hosting. Whenever someone joins our game that is already in session there are massive lag spikes.

Hmm I have never really picked up on it before. Maybe I did not notice because connection issues were already so prevalent? It was really severe last night though. Is it possible the problem has worsened?

again you were in groundwar so the effect is expotentially increased due to the numbers of players..

when a new player joins a sessions theres a few seconds when everyone has to drop back into sync ..if you have people with quite hiugh latency it takes that bit longer to get everything smooth again

think of it like this you're on a freeway with free flowing traffic and someone doesnt bother to stop as they zoom onto the freeway result is people behind the new car have to slam on their brakes ect and then slowly get back upto speed for free flowing traffic..

prolly not the best analogy they arent my strong point

Yes, but I always play ground war and never noticed before. I've played other game modes probably less than two dozen times combined.

The only issue with that thought is that it doesn't always happen, and as far as I know, it doesn't happen in the other games either. It's really obvious in something like Infected, but I play regular Domination a lot and notice it happen there quite a bit too.
