Map Editor

Posted by poisoneskimo on May 15, 2012 11:17 AM

Why I believe Trayarch may bring in a map editor for Call of Duty.

Over the few recent years, Treyarch has added many (multiplayer) game-changing features, which include, but not limited to; Theatre mode, Combat training and the Currency System.

Not "hating" on infinity ward, but their lack of new features in their Call of Duty titles is apparent. I feel that Treyarch may out-do Infinity Ward (again) this year by adding a Map Editor. Of course, I could be wrong, but I thought I would share my views on the situation.

What are your views on a Map Editor? Do you expect to see one in Black Ops II?

I think a "map" editor is probably not going to happen, but what I tihnk they oculd do is add a game mode editor.

They might have one already, I haven't played MW3 very much and do not have ELITE premium but I thought I had heard that they would allow you to create private games and upload them to ELITE. There everyone could vote on them and stuff like that, which is where I thought Dropzoone and infected came from.

I remember checking out the private match settings for a second, and I did not really see anyway to create gamemodes like dropzone or infected, correct me if I am wrong.

    some additional ideas for match:

    - Set specific spawn sites

    - Set flags, or zones for capturing points

    - Set teams and/or nuetral killstreak rewards. Ex: ramdom preditor missiles coming in that kill anyone on both teams, or something like airdrop crates like dropzone

Could probably think of a lot more.

Your reasons for believing Black Ops 2 will have a map editor are extremely weak, you're basically saying your spidey sense is telling you. Lol.

I will say though, a map editor is a GREAT idea and it would be so sick if by some miracle your spidey sense was right.

There is no evidence for or against your proposition.

My guess is a map editor while inevitable is not likely until the next CoD engine is built.

Therefore I'm tipping no map editor for BO2 as the foundation of the engine are not changing for this release.

Not sure how feasable it would be, but could they integrate it through ELITE web protal?

Such as using the ELITE web portal to host the map editing, then making your map available for download to your console. This would avoid the limited space of putting it on the disk.

Even if they just gave you certain size grids and pre built structures, I bet people could come up with pretty neat map designs. They could even make it to where you can set a password or something on it so only your friends can download it, or you could make it public.

It probably would be hard to do with the volume of players though, and the game is most likely to far along anyway....

      Oh well, wishful thinking....

Don't think this will work for CoD, at least on Consoles. Don't get me wrong, might be fun, but the size of the community is so large I am not even sure how they would get player-made maps out there, and lets face it, most of them would suck royally.

I don't think finding content would be an issue, the good ones would surely have a presnece in the community.

I agree though, the player base is probably way to large for something like this, and with everyone creating new maps and stuff, they might not want to buy a new game the next year.

Would be fun to mess around on Combat Training with though. Its an interesting idea, I just don't know if it would work for this community.

I see this as a highly unlikely idea. If they do actually choose to add it, Ill be surprised and after I test it out, I will be able to make a decision if I like it or not!

Treyarch and activison are not going to do this because they would lose money on dlcs. Who would spend $15.00 on a map pack when you could just make your own map that might even be better. The only way they would put a map editor in the game is if they charged you to use it. So that way they don't lose to much money. I do really want a map pack though and if they do put one in i want it to be like trails evolution. Its the perfect map editor!

People who say its not possible on xbox, do you really know what you saying? loads of game have map makers/editors off the top of my head far cry and halo.

I honestly don't see why they don't can't be any  worse maps than they make some times. it would be a good busniess idea to if they done a small print saying anything thats made by there map creator software is 100& there's which means some one could build a really awesome map gets voted for by the commuity then they could put it in a DLC Pack and charge for it without paying the actually person who made it. Win Win in there eyes.

It CAN be done. if you think it can't check out Far Cry 2. It's a COD style game with a pretty good map editor. The HALO series does it as well, although that editor isn't as good as Far Cry's. I doubt it will happen in COD, but I'd love it if it did.

On the other hand, somebody in the thread said he thinks people would come up with some pretty cool maps. I have to say 99.99% will absolute rubbish as proved by every other game that has ever had a map or level editor. Most people just aren't good level makers.

For a map editor to be worthwile, it has to give you the ability to add enemies, weapon drops , create game modes and everything else a game designer does. Waste of time otherwise.

It would be amazing if CoD integraded that feature into their future titles. It can be done, most recent game that is coming to console FPS wise is Far Cry 3 and their bringing back their Map Editor from Far Cry 2 with more advances to it.

Its a double edged sword, why would customers pay for maps from the developer(DLC) when you can make/download one for free? On the other hand as talented as some people are, not everyone is a game designer and can manage to create a truly stunning and amazing map through a map editor, granted that every so often you come across a gem that makes the community go wild and is revered to be the best.

Just my personal opinion but i would rather pay $10 for well crafted maps from treyarch than make/download a miliion crappy iterations of similar maps and hope to come across one that i like.
