My honest opinion on latest patch:

First of all, my ps3 is wired to my router all suggested ports are forwarded to my ps3's static ip.Settings for my ps3 are:Mtu 1500 instead of automatic, upnp=off.

    Isp:UPC Cable 50mb/d 5mb/u 20ms ping average.

Findings on patch 1.14:I don't have the feeling I get more matched up with people closer by, I swear I heard some Americans yesterday.(I'm in Holland)

The games run a lot smoother now, no more WTF moments.

I notice lack of aim assist, sometimes the feeling there's no aim assist at all.

When you're host it is worse then before, delay of at least 2 seconds.

When you're nost hosting the game is perfectly in sync, shots register good and lag is far less noticeable.

Still getting the instant death in every game, and it is magnified 10 fold when im hosting, patch has made no discernible difference to the game for me.

Im playing on both Xbox and Ps3, game was running fine for me on ps3 until about a week ago, now its unplayable on both platforms

    ISP = optus in australia

    30down 2up connection

    EDIT

I've also tried playing for an hour with a wired connection to my router, and played for an hour after that with a wired connection straight to my modem, same result either way, i was a 2.5kdr player until recently, i can still go positive most of the time just from map and spawn knowledge, but im losing just about every 1 on 1 gunfight i come up against.

    Hello zKlepto,

I'm not familiar with Australian ISPs. Is Optus well known? The reason I ask this is that the geolocation tables we use on PS3 rely on regularly updated ISP information. When an ISP is small or, for example, relocating to a different address range they do not always report the correct address. Secondly do you live in a large population centre?

    Cheers,

Optus is probably the 2nd biggest ISP in Australia behind Telstra, i also live in melbourne, which i'd assume is one of the most populated cities in the country, although im having similar problems on both ps3 and xbox.

Man you can sure tell a difference when aim assist is not synced correctly can't you? It actually fights you while ADSing when it's off. I play FFA on the PS3 mostly, and I can feel it come and go throughout a game or a set of games on my connection along with insta kills. I still get by and have fun and Im not in the straights others seem to be in with the game, but it is there for sure and it's funny how trained I've become at feeling it. I mean I actually switch my tactics and start rushing harder when I feel it kick in correctly in order to take advantage while I can, and then the minute that stops I know to switch back into being more thoughtful. It's certainly pretty silly that I am able to do that, but this game is just always going to be fickle like that I guess. It has its own character like that to me, similar to the way an old car has its certain little tricks to it.

When it comes to the host stuff you mentioned, are you sure you're hosting when that happens? The reason I ask is I think a lot of people have jumped onto the host=fail bandwagon and have never gotten off. To me, host seems back to the classic advantage that we've all been acustomed to. It's the host that consistently dominates from what I can tell and a bunch of bonafied COD people tell me the same when I talk to them. I think a lot of people may be misinterpereting the actual villain most times. Im almost willing to say they might actually need to take the lag comp a couple ticks back the other way unless what I have sensed throughout the life cycle of the game is completely off. It's just always going to be that balance I guess. I just wish the whole system was dynamic enough to perform consistently. That's what I really want. I want to be able to respect someone when they best me and I want to be able to pat myself on the back genuinely when I do the besting.

Dear G IH A IN ID II,

I would like to report back on the matchmaking fix for the PS3.

I just played around 20 games...and I didn't have a single WTF moment. All deaths were the fault of my aim and being killed from behind, and for once, not lag. I can't tell you how enjoyable it really was.

Before yesterday's patch to 1.14, I had at least a few WTF moments per game. Not a single one in 20 games with 1.14.

Unfortunately, in my opinion, I think you are going to run into people who will faulsify their experience with the new matchmaking update. They would rather blame lag and "lag comp" then their own aim. I am the first person to say "okay, my aim was off, that's why I lost the fight" and those are the only kinds of deaths I experienced, aside from being shot in the back, of course. I still consider spawns horrific and I hope for a remedy for that soon, if possible.

I live in a densly populated area in Ohio, and I have a 30/5mbps connection with 19ms ping to servers ~250 miles away. For once I don't feel like my connection has hampered me. I feel like I am completely even with enemies. It's a very appreciated change.

Thank you very much for this change to bring matchmaking back to what it was for MW2 and Black Ops.

    Sincerely,

    Don

No I'm not on the hosting=bad bandwagon, haha.

Seriously when I need a full clip of ammo to kill someone or got the feeling I'm 2 seconds behind any enemy, I'm pretty sure I'm hosting, host migration pops up 9 out of 10 times I quit the match.

We are not jumping on any bandwagon & if we are it’s for a reason, it’s true. I host constantly. I know when I’m host. I feel it. The game also confirms it when I need to back-out every-time from a horrible unfair out of sync game & I feel like Hercules when I’m on a 4 bar not hosting, there is a big difference especially with more laggy players in the lobby (bigger ping differences). The host doesn’t have an advantage, constant bouncy frame skipping doesn’t help aim. Hit register kicking in later or not at all on 3 bar players doesn’t either.

Matchmaking needs some actually improvements. Aka closer pings, go back to 10 ping intervals. There should be zero reasons for me to get a 3 bar in regular tdm / dom or worse host some 3 bar players 1000s of miles away, while the game is in its prime & I’m playing the two most popular game modes in the game. This didn’t happen in mw2 while it was in its prime, why mess with matchmaking quality. 25 Ping intervals means this game becomes a Lag vest potentially and fast and the host is always fcked in these lobbies full with 3 bar players.

This is not about me getting owned, I averaged at least 4 k/d last night. Mainly because when I don’t host I go on a rampage..

We know one thing, the game is most fair when most people in the lobby have a 4 bar, then what is your excuse for lowering matchmaking quality? People would gladly wait for quality lobbies. I now get dropped in lobbies in 2, 3 seconds maybe and matchmaking quality suffers from it, especially after a few matches..

That's cool then. We all have different situations with connections and regions that perform different.

Hey @ devs thanks for the latest hotfix on ps3. It does help in survival mode cos now I can invite players again (and not only the other way around as it was before).

Also we didnt have any lag when we began it was just as playing single player. Was a bit of lag then later in the game tho , dunno why, but it was playable

You rock @ devs !! Now please bring survival for the face/off maps.
