Fix for Host Problems in MW3 (For Consoles)

To players who are struggling with the connection in MW3 as host, I have finally sorted out mine.
Do not forward your ports, I repeat, do not forward your ports.
Also, disable theater mode recordings
The game has been playing so much better running on a moderate NAT Type & has made the games much smoother for me.
I don't think I have been getting host which has made the game so much better than what it was on an Open NAT Type.
Thanks to Snipingdbag for pointing this out in another thread but oh boy...this has made the game SO much better for me.
If you're hating host, here's your chance to change all that.
Let me know how it goes on your end.
Cheers
Bump
i don't even know what port forwarding means, so i don't have to worry about that.
but i will disable theatre mode when i get online this morning.
and i believe NAT is set to open.
i hope this works.

Idea valid ... ie not having host, way you gone about it is counter productive, by forcing a mod nat you are limiting your matchmaking and will cause anyone partied with you problems. Do NOT be a party leader let someone with an open nat be party leader.
Unfortunatly there zero chance they will allow people to opt out of being hosts as their entie system will come grinding to a halt there are ways to stop yourself getting host but i wont explain them here for the above reason.
Tweet me with your info or email me.

and this goes for everyone..
nope sorry, this comes under my I wont intentially cause problems for the game, which explaining how to stop being a host would be as the system relies on hosts. People with no problems who make good hosts would switch off hosting as they would think it gives than an advantage ect..
The games new you have to give it a chance to settle in and filter out bad hosts naturally in its cycles, and let the bods in mw3 towers tweak and tinker stuff till the game is smoother for everyone.
settle in ?? by the time it has "settled in" Mw4 will be out, I pay alot of money for my internet connection 50mbs virgin which is about to be doubled and then uped again to 120mbs in the comming months, and also for my games I think we all agree this is a joke
I dont think it sifts thru anything or comes up with that info at all. it is merely a command it carries out regardless what is staring back at it. I know because it still makes me host even tho half the time the game doesnt finish because it loses connection to me. The reality of it is if you have the mammoth bandwidth youre carrying the load. Why cant the people who caused this problem in the first place write software that accomodates all players. If xbox live measures bandwidth with determining the host your program should rely on bandwidth not ping!!!! Now that I know it is just me and other comcast users dealing with this BS I want my money back. I was thinking everybody had to deal with this crap but thats obviously not the case!!!
Seriously...so many things about this game make me mad why even play it? Fix it before we find other ways to spend our money!
So far Mac, matchmaking hasn't made a difference after I changed to moderate, it has still kept me in local 4 bar lobbies.
Not being host has become a blessing and before I changed my router setting, I got to a point where I ended up leaving games (watching the matches go into host migration).
Now, hit detection is great and I rarely die around corners.
I also disabled UPNP as well.
Mac, I didn't want to end up doing this but when the game put's so much strain on the host connection, it got me to the point where I didn't want to be host.
Don't worry, I normally get someone else to be party leader.
+1 Vims, couldn't have said it better myself in saying the game made me do it. The lag compensation is too great in this particular network coding, period.
how do I know if my ports are forwarded?
something is up for a big percentage of the mw3 players..... i really hope they fix this as i cannot play it as it is ... i have tried the tips reccomended but still feel like im getting the same prob..... aiming down the road guy runs round corner aims up at me bang im dead just as im pushing in right trigger. i cannot actually play this game in this state ... i have a new 50mb fibre optic connection with 3 upload ... if this is not enough i am amazed as the next internet package for me is 60 a month for 100mb
Ever since I have not forward my ports, the games seem to run better.
Before I changed my router settings, the game just ran like crap for me as host. I get shot around corners, if I duck for cover, I still die (killcam shows me not taking cover) & it takes me more bullets to kill someone compared to them killing me.
This is something I never encountered in an IW game as host. It's as if they took the Treyarch mentality of placing too much strain on the host connection but what's make it worse that since bullet damage is higher, it doesn't allow you counter-attack even if you know you aimed down your sights & shot first.
I hear PS3 users are having the same issue so I'm assuming this is a problem across both consoles.
As I said before, I didn't want to do this but I just couldn't handle being the host.
Doesn't work at all, I get host almost every match. Tried disabling uPnP/Port forwarding and reducing MTU and still get host and lag. Game is unplayable like this, they need to remove lag comp altogether, because we will NEVER see dedicated servers (which is what the game really needs.
They've just geared the game towards the mass audience that includes people with dial up to make more $$$$. The things we want to change will never happen.
Game Over!!!!
I so know this all to well. It infuriates me!!! I have to shoot enemies in the head 3 times meanwhile they are shooting me around corners and backing me up to a position I was nowhere close to when it decided I was dead. BO minimaps will even bounce back and forth between my view and theirs. When i respawn my gun is pointing up in the air too lol. RRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWRRRRRRRRRRRRR
I have an Xbox and a PS3 and play MW3 on both of them. I used a combination of Port Forwarding, Port Range Forwarding, and Port Triggering to open up my NAT's on both consoles. The way things are setup right now, my PS3 has an Open NAT and my Xbox has a Moderate NAT.
I've noticed that my matches run a lot smoother and seem to have less lag on the Xbox whereas the PS3 still seems to have lag.
I'm not saying that this idea is correct, but there's defintely some evidence pointing in the right direction.
