Equipment and Grenades

Posted by nicedrewishfela on May 6, 2012 5:46 PM

Haven't seen a lot of discussion yet about Equipment and Grenades, so I thought I would share my thoughts on the subject and I am curious to see what the community thinks about it.

I guess the first question is if you would like to see a return to the system Black Ops used. I personally liked the setup myself, with an Equipment slot, Tac Grenade Spot, and a Lethal Grenade spot. I liked having the equipment but still being able to be armed with a grenade or Tomahawk. I don't like that in MW3 if you use a Claymore or Betty, you don't get a grenade. I didn't feel like the Equipment in BlOps was overpowered, so I don't think this unbalanced the game at all.

As far as equipment goes-

Claymores/Bettys- Yes. I know they tend to be overused, but since they lowered the number you can use to one, I don't think they are OP. They are pretty easy to spot and often give away the user's position. Sure you will get the occasional idiot sitting in a corner behind one, but the value for helping protect an objective or your own back is worth it.

Motion Sensors/Portable Radars- Not a huge fan. Its a tool that encourages camping and I don't really see the purpose of it.

Tac Inserts- No. I think this goes without saying. They weren't used for boosting as much in Black Ops, but still, not a favorite equipment of mine. I did get a lot of satisfaction of sitting there waiting for someone to spawn, especially when that person kept going back to the same spot over and over again. Always a good laugh.

C4- Yes its been used in every CoD, but lets face it, its fun for those who use it. No problems keeping this or something like it in the game.

Camera Spike- Never used it myself, pretty innovative Idea but seems like it would promote Camping.... I like the idea of being able to watch an area without camping it, didn't see it used much in HC... what do you think?

Jammers- I didn't mind these so much, pretty good tactical tool.

Trophy System- Meh. This has become the ultimate camper tool in MW3, not sure I want to see it return in BlOps 2. Sure it negates tubes, but tubes and Nades were designed to get rid of campers. So its six of one, half dozen of another.

Tac Grenades-

Flash/Concussion Grenades- I think they need to come back in some shape or form. I would like to see a little more consistency... its frustrating getting hit by one and not being able to move or see anything for several seconds... but getting a hit marker with one and getting shot by the person you hit is just as frustrating. That being said, you need tools like this to breach buildings and clear obstacles where enemies may be camping.

EMP Grenade- One of my favorite additions to MW3 because of the dearth of killstreaks and equipment used. I like destroying Trophies and Sentries in one shot. Not OP as you get one per life, and you have to be accurate to get a hit.

Nova Gas-  Not sure we'lll see anything like this as there have been international laws passed about using chemical warfare since the Vietnam era. Maybe something like tear gas that would obscure vision?

Decoy Grenade- Torn on this. Was kind of a cool concept, but could be annoying when people spammed them.

Lethal Grenades-

Frag Grenades- Yes! My favorite. Nothing like crafting a perfect grenade toss, banking it off a wall or through a window. One of the weapons in the game that still takes still to use well.

Semtex Grenade- Like these as well, a lot of fun to use and sticking someone is the ultimate rush. Even making mistakes with these is hilarious. Come on, you can't tell me you've never gotten it stuck on a wall or window right in front of you and thought "OH CRAP" before!

Throwing Knives/ Tomahawks- Would love to see something along these lines. Never was great at them but they are fun and take skill to use well.

So what do you think? Agree? Disagree? Any ideas for new equipment or grenades?

im gona defend tac insert, trophy system and decoy, the rest on your list was perfect the way you explained it. If handled correctly the tac insert does help by making people walk a shorter distance to objectives. I do not beleive it should be in free for all or team deathmatch. The trophy system along with a smoke grenade was perfect for capping dom points and saved lifes quite often, even tho grenades and all explosives were extremly under powerd in mw3. and the decoy was pretty cool, i wouldnt mind it returning if you only got 1 and scavenger did not replenish it. hope this helps. I agree with your list, who knows what awaits us in blops 2

I think claymores/whatever proximity mines they decide to include should be in the same category as grenades like in mw3. It was pretty annoying in bo1 when everyone was just free to carry a claymore all the time. The only way I could handle claymores being an equipment and everyone carrying it is if they made bomb squad/sit rep/hacker and ninja/dead silence into different perk slots like in waw so you could see their equipment with hacker and sneak up on them with ninja. Pretty annoying in bo1 when you would have hacker but the camper with the claymore would be able to hear you or you'd have ninja and you'd go boom. I guess another suggestion would be to have ninja delay proximity mines like stalker pro.

Never had a problem with claymores in Black Ops. I used lightweight as my first perk and Ninja as my third and i barely died by them. Reason beeing is that i would use the jammer you might not think so but if the piece of equipment is used properly you can do some serious damage and walk around the map not worrying about motion sensors, claymore, and c4.

If you dont like the jammer then theres always flak jacket as a first perk plus you can still keep ninja. Now if your going to tell me you use scavenger for more ammo then think again, thats why they give you dual mags as an attachment. If your going to say ghost so UAVs wont see you, theres a a wonderfull killstreak called Counter UAV. Theres so many different ways to counter things.

Stalker in MW3 is the worst :/ the perk is a cool addition to the series and would have worked if the lag comp wasnt so horrible in that game. Hated when people that have a clear advantage because of their crappy internet would combine that with stalker, theres literally no way to kill them in a 1v1 gun fight because of lag and frame rate issues. Didnt mind stalker pro since the pro version is literally scrambler pro and thats nothing new
