I haven't done any serious shotgunning in like a week because they have lost their novelty. I would rather do well with another fun gun like the ump rapid fire then suffer through bad weapons.
MW3 makes no sense to me. It would make sense to me that if there are 2 guns, one can shoot out to infinity, the other can only shoot 700 inches, then the one that can only shoot out to 700 inches should have an absolute advantage inside of that 700 inches. But in real gameplay the smgs significantly out perform the shotguns at any range.
Then factor on top of that the limited fire rate of all the shotguns by comparison to the other primaries and the fact that shotguns require a similar quality of aim in a shorter time window than the other primaries make shotguns terrible in comparison to the other mw3 primaries.
Then on top of that factor in the random inconsistent hitmarkers that shotguns get, this all ads up to shotguns in mw3 being steaming piles of crap. why deal with this...
When this is more effective and far easier.

we all would like to play with the changes but those changes would be like adding damage to the original gun it is good dont get me wrong and I would LOVE it i feel that adding extra clips to the AA-12 would be AWSOME and improving the USAS-12 is great so You are doing really good on your gun knowlage and i support the changes 150% so hope your request gose through thank you

^^ Can't do that with the shotguns except the Striker. And that hitmarker, jeez, he was already damaged and he still survived? :O BS! Has Handi or whatever the guy on the forum is called seen this thread yet? He needs to see it!

I have been an avid supporter of a Shotgun buff since the release of the game. I had thought IW would care enough about their consumer base to buff these shotguns. This thread has 26 pages, and IW still does not get it. We have provided evidence as to why Shotguns are in dire need of a fix, yet IW still does not get it. This has led me to belive that IW does NOT want Shotguns to compete, that they believe a horribly underpowered set of weapons is acceptable.
Brick, I suggest you go back and collect each and every gamer tag/PSN ID of all who are in favor of a Shotgun buff, to show IW that it is what the community wants.

And why doesn't IW have an actual debate with us? They've told us either to shut up or they'll look into it. That right there tells me they don't care about shotgun balance and are trying to silence us.

I actually don't have to do that. There is a better way to tell what a much larger cross section of the community thinks. This forums own search feature, google's search, and youtube. If you type mw3 shotguns into all of those platforms the results are immensely in favor of buffing them. There is no way to deny that this is what the community wants with a cross section this wide.
The only people who ever oppose these buffs are the people that only present these arguments. "I saw a guy go 30-2 on a certain map with the pump shotgun, shotguns are amazing!" or "They require no skill to use" (after checking the stats of the person they have less than 100 kills total with all pumps and they have them as some of their lowest performing weapons) or my personal favorite, "I already get killed across the map by them now." None of these arguments have any statistical evidence behind them and for the most part no actual experience either.
In the face of all we have presented (I still have more to show ghandi, and a final argument to present and I am just waiting for him to come online) The only reason I can imagine the shotguns have not been buffed is the idea that it will somehow make them an over used weapon.
First off it wont. The opportunity cost of using a pump shotgun is too large for most players. That is why in mw2 people using the spas as a primary like I did was a rare sight. An even rarer sight in mw2 was someone doing well with it. And in mw2 you could pack a sniper secondary with no movement penalty. In the face of the sheer effectiveness of the pp90, p90, mp7, and Acr the opportunity cost of taking the pumps in mw3 is again ridiculously high especially now because the thing is a true primary and you cant take a sniper secondary and dominate all ranges. (unless you take overkill but then you get picked up on the constant steam of uavs and then there is no point to having a shotgun as a weapon.)
Secondly even if it did (it won't) why would it be bad? Why does everyone treat shotguns so badly? I went 24-6 on hard hat with the spas and I got bitched at for using a shotgun, the next game I went 30-2 on lockdown with the pp90 with rapid fire+emags and steady aim almost exclusively hipfiring. They were silent. People might move away from the striker and usas to the pumps and aa12 but very few smg and assault rifle user would. And considering you would still have to level the pumps to at least range to make them effective would be a large deterrent for most gamers. Most people don't suffer through bad weapons, that is why the mp7, pp90, and Acr dominate mw3.
Third with the release of more open large scale maps shotgun usage will decline even further.
Doing what we have suggested in the original post in this thread will not increase the total numbers of shotgun users by any noticeable margin. All it will do is move some people away from the striker and usas because the opportunity cost of doing so is less severe than going from ARs or SMGs to a shotgun.

Buff 'em for close range, but the rage occurs when people get "sniped " at unrealistic distances with a civil war era shotgun. Also have a RPM cap to Striker to stop the mod controllers with gatling gun fire rates. GT Roadhustler63

Thanks for the post but actually a 2 3/4" buckshot shell fired from the 1887 which has a 20" barrel length will be lethal out to 40+meters.

The striker is okay. It has a 352 rpm fire cap currently. I actually end up pulling the trigger faster than the thing can fire right now as it is. I feel that a drop in its potential fire rate is not needed now that emags "glitch" has been removed.

Theres still really no point to using shotguns. you have to stick to camping closed in areas, open ground is a death sentence. The only time I really do well with shotguns is when i have all three stealth perks because i can just sneak up on people and shoot them in the head which is no different than using the desert eagle or 44 magnum. If shotgun range were more realistic then despite the whining and crying that would undoubtedly follow they would actually be reasonably balanced.
